The option isn't an option at this time.

Seriously, I thought it was. That can seriously effect my decision to buy the game as the only interest for me is college football..

At the VERY top of the picture you can see that the goalposts are smaller.

Yes I kinda remember him mentioning that the option can be run along with multiple hand offs but I'm not 100% sure

1. The goal posts are not editable as far as size goes.

2. The option I've had to take out of the game for the time being. I had it in there but it was such an AI breaker it wasn't even funny. I'm sure people will probably find plays or routes that can cause the defensive AI problems but I didn't want to leave in something that was THAT obvious.

So until I get that sorted out, I've have to leave it out.

Double hand offs are still in there though.

WOW! for me thats pretty huge that you can no longer run option plays. This was a big attraction for me and I know alot of people planned on running college leagues.

I mean this was going to the ONLY football game to truly let you design an option offense. Man that just sucks.

I guess I will focus on the indoor game then. So My question was are the Goalpost Adjusted not adustable. Meaning are they more narrow than their outdoor counterpart? Its hard to tell from the pics.

And I know I saw it somewhere, but if the KO goes out of the back of the endzone does it comes out to the 5 ydline or 25 ydline or can we determine this in the rule set?

Thanks again for all feedback

Option plays will be back because they're needed for Canadian rules as well as the US college game. I just felt that it was better to remove something that was an AI buster than to leave it in. It's high on my to do list for the first update.

The goal posts can be moved from goal line to endline but that currently all the game allows for goal post options. I'll see about trying to get some post width options in to the game. A couple of people have asked for it now.

Where the ball comes out to (on what is basically a touchback) is coded in the game. So at this time, you can't tell the game "I wan't it brought out to the 25" (which would be silly any way for indoor rules...)

Thanks for the response Dave. I hope the option comes back in soon.
The NIFL does bring the ball out to the 25 (midfield) if you kick a kickoff out of the endzone. and to the 5 on a missed FG. I dont know about other leagues. Having NFL goalpost indoors is just going to be weird. I really want to like this game, but I all the things I loved about it seem to be left out. I will still get the game when its released just for the customization factor. But no option offense, no true indoor kicking game, just changes alot of things.

But the effort is there and I believe it will all be there down the line. Thanks for making what looks to be great game, Dave.

Thank you for the update and clarification on the option, as that feature was the singularly most important one to me regarding whether I would purchase the game or not.

I will periodically check in on this forum to keep an eye out for the first update when the option feature is incorporated into the game.

Meanwhile, I hope the initial version of the game is a rousing success!

Thanks for checking in from time to time. I know it's something people were looking forward to, as was I because it's a big part of the game I enjoy. I'm confident it will be put back soon.

As David has stated, the reason the option is not in the game is because it is a huge AI buster. That is why even NCAA Football games don't have it.

Maximum-Football does allow huge sweeps and quarterback keeper plays, but the quarterback just cannot fling the ball to a trailing back.

If David can pull off a true option in a future update, that would be killer.

They're not NFL posts...the hashmarks are closer together on the indoor field and the posts aren't wider than the hasmarks.

from what dave mentioned above it seems like the goalpost dont change maybe it just looks that way. He said you can move them infront or inback of the endzone but their isnt a variance in width. And that he might add that later.

Let me guess, the problem with the option was that there was no way from keeping the entire front seven from collapsing on the quarterback. Which always allowed you running back to get the toss and get at least five yards before a defensive back stopped him.

In the original Madden, i stumbled on a play that looked like an option that did this. In fact, it worked better with a slow QB, because it would take that much longer to pitch. And we were playing head-to-head, on the same computer. And that game allowed you to make audibles and you still couldn't stop the play. You could tell the defense you were running it and there was nothing the D could do about it. Eventually had to outlaw the play.

Actually this is not true. NCAA 06 (One of the only decent titles EA has ever came out with) has this feature and it appears that the defense reacts to it quite well, especially if you play the game in coaching mode. I to look forward in David adding this feature. I wish that it would have been added in the initial release with a special disclaimer that if you do not design good defensive profiles and plays that this would be a AI buster.

Zowee,

I meant that most games don't do it, even most NCAA games, because it can kill the AI.

In the NFL, the option doesn't work well because the linebackers and safeties are too quick.

In Maximum-Football, I suspect one can create plays to punish quarterbacks who try to run with the ball too much. How many games have Ron Mexico and Daunte Culpepper missed in the past two NFL seasons? Heh heh heh!
