When my wife (girlfriend at the time) first came to NJ from CA to visit I told her to close her eyes and hold her breath as we went through this area. Fortunetly CA smells worse in parts.

Which parts? I grew up in LA myself. It doesnt smell bad at all, its just that sometimes the air crunches on your teeth a bit.

Since you said "across the river" I guess you work/reside in the city of scum and villiany.

Work there. Its a funny place. They play this game here thats called "lets see how high we can stack these bags of trash on the sidewalk until it collapses and kills an old lady and her rat terrier".

I live in Long Island, the land of mindnumbing boredom, excessive greenery and overinflated prices and egos.

Wife was from Huntington Park originally and worked in LA Unified school system (State Street School I think). Lived in Riverside when we met. All desert and no River so the same still boggles me.

It was funny becuse she said she wanted to leave CA to get away from the traffic and the pollution.Having lived in NJ for 30 years I didn't think anywhere could be worse. My first trip there I actually saw smog and felt a "small tremor" that felt like a freight train going by. She woke up rolled over and went back to sleep saying they happen all the time. Add to that the 10 land highways at a stand still compaired to our 6 lane highways at a stand still and I saw where NJ could be an improvement.

By the way. That woman wasn't walking a Rat Terrier. It was an actuall rat. They get that big in NYC. Nothing like the smell of fresh urine in the air as you exit the subway on a hot summer day.

Should have considered Northern Minnesota, where if you live next to Lake Superior you don't need an air conditioner.

Sort of like up along the St Lawrence River in New York. We had two seasons winter and the 4th of July. Of course it is now July 13th.

Ah, Riverside....no further comment.

Its true about earthquakes though. I dont know how I'd take it now, after a few years of livin in NY, but when I lived in CA, I would not have gotten out of bed for an earthquake unless the rocking motion dumped me out.

6 lane highways..... Surely you jest. Most highways in LI are 2 lanes each way. The biggest one in the neighborhood is the Belt, thats 3 each way...except that one is is always closed because there is a police cruiser blocking it.

Rats....oh yeah. If they ever improve the sanitation in this city and stop dumping garbage, so that those radioactive monsters are forced to forage aboveground in daylight.....well, that'll be the end of NYC. I like the "Day After Tomorow" solution. Just level the place and start over.

So, tell us, how does a cop from NJ meet and marry a teacher (?) from Riverside?

On vacation in Mexico at Club Med (Sonora Bay). Too good a story not to marry her.

Funny thing about it was the whole reason we met is that my roomate and I went on a snorkling excursion ( I can barely swim) because I was trying to hook up with a girl from Georgia I had met the night before. My future wife and I started talking while waiting in line for the boat and the rest is history.
