About 90 days of oil, 200 days of Resources plus another 120 days or so of HI points. Late 44 and early 45 are going to be lean times.

Yeah. Looking on the bright side (in a sick sense, that is), once the bombing of the Home Islands HI begins, you'll stretch out your reserves.

Bad news is that Cayagan was taken in a daring airdrop and soon the entire PI will be under the Allied 4E bomber umbrella. The good news is that this triggered the Kamikaze code and I can now start converting units to Kamikazes.

Try mixing up some ground attack with the airfield strikes. You're probably just disabling the same support troops over and over again. Time to give the infantry a taste...

I have done this with limited effect. Chungking only gets 9,000 supply per month minus what I blow up (43 supply hits today alone) so I doubt anyone is recovering.

Having been on the receiving end of many Allied ground strikes, I can tell you that a sustained bombing effort against infantry makes a huge difference in combat. Granted, out IJA bombers aren't quite so effective, but I've had troops hold out for long periods until the evil Allied aircraft turn their not so gentle attention to them.
Retreat soon follows.

Since Kenny has spotted the movement of over 1 million men towards Chungking I can announce that the march on Chungking has begun. The attack should come some time in the next week. Stay tuned for the mother of all assaults. Several units took a wrong turn on their way from Chengtu so the assault will be lighter than expected.

In other news, Kenny landed at Tacloban but my Bettys hit several ships. Looks like LR CAP forgot to fly.

good strike....wasn't ready to go into the hornets nest of Clark/Manila yet, but it looked like i was able to tempt a few squadrons from those fields to due battle over Bataan.

Upgraded the AVG to P38J's (they were still in P40E's)...can't wait for these bad boys to be ready

I guess that some of the lower units (regiments and battalion) level did not get their GPS navigation units yet.
ACME must be slow in their production.

You should change some of your LBA to ground attack and not just against the AF.

Set up a computer controlled supply convoy between two HI bases, but only include MSW in it. Works great to keep the region clean, as the MSW doesn't even pick up supplies - just cruises between bases getting rid of mines. I had to resort to this quite often in '45 when my opponent was mining the crap out of Japan by sub and air.
Just one of the many ways that life sucks for Japan late in the war. Get used to it...

Planes from Manilla tried to protect Naga from a raid and got slaughtered.

Last of the Chungking assault force (minus the wayward units) should be in place by next turn. Due to fatigue their AV has dropped from 20K to 17K. I hope this is enough since I will only get one shot at taking Chungking.

The assult on Chungking will happen next turn. Final assaulting AV is 17,777. All have supplies in the white but none have double. Weather is overcast so there should be a preliminary airstrike to keep the defenders disrupted. Defender AV is at it's lowest ever recorded (9077) so I am optomistic. Fingers are crossed. All JFBs can help by saying a short prayer for my success

Well the shock attack on day 1 was a success acheiving a 3:1 margin despire horrifiic losses. They did not have enough left on Day 2 to continue the progress. I will wait a few days for replacements to arrive along with the wayward units.

Elsewhere a massive air battle at Manilla resulted in many planes being lost on both sides. I did discover that Georges are a match for P-38s. I need to increase their production lines.

Here's the stat's from my submarine warfare against Japanese shipping....

few things first...
- we are playing with Allied Sub Doctrine ON, which expired July 1st, 1943
- Allied subs torp dud rate was 40% from Jan 43' to Sept 43' and is 10% currently
- I started my submarine campaign in Jan 1943
- the current date is Feb 18th, 1944 (about 12 months of submarine warfare)

Results...
Japan Losses
- 4 DD
- 4 MSW
- 1 ML
- 33 AK
- 19 TK
- 3 AP
Points - 483 pts

Allied Losses (not counting mining missions)
- 21 SS from ASW Naval Forces
- 6 SS from ASW Airforces
Points - 275 pts

Ratio
1 sub lost for every 2.5 japanese ships lost
For every VP loss, i'm gaining about 2 pts

Not the best results. There was a time i was sinking 5 ships for every sub loss, and eventually got to up to over a 10:1 ratio. But then Tom starting concentrating his ships in well protected convoys and blanketing the sky with aircraft on ASW patrol to great effect. The result was the plummenting of my loss to kill ratio.

Despite these depressing results, i will continue with my submarine warfare efforts, as there is still a net gain in points for me...however small. Plus i'm sure it annoys Tom

For other players facing similar Japanese tactics, i can make only one suggestion. Always keep your subs moving. Its time consuming every turn to redirect my subs, but its the most effective way to keep the number of air attacks and ASW attacks down, in such a hostile enviroment.

Upon reflection of these results, this all seems very realistic. Like the germans in the battle of the atlantic i had my "happy times" period, but once the enemy started running more effective convoys with heavy air patrols, it's become more lethal to be a submarine skipper. In light of this i would suggest (and i assume Tom would also) not to waste the first turn port attack on hitting Manila harbor and all her submarines. Like the Allies in real life, the Japanese can successfully hamper allied submarine warfare efforts with real life tactics. Better to go after the BB's at Pearl Harbor or Singapore.
