Ok, I was going to play the game late tonight, but given the interest I'm going to go ahead and start things up around 4:30PM (PDT). I'll start with the pitching matchups and the lineups, and then give inning by inning reports.... Stay tuned!!!!!!

Early treat... The pitching matchup in game 7 will be Brewer vs. Wynn. I am posting screenshots of their player cards so you can see their season performance, as well as their playoff performances. May help make your pick!

They are pretty evenly matched stats wise, but I like the fact that Wynn is "Feeling Great", while Brewer only "Feels Good".

In breaking news, the last game of the World Series has been shifted to catch the Prime Time audience for the East Coast fans. West Coast fans who can't get off work early are shocked and dismayed, but given that its a Pittburgh-Boston matchup, the commish would prefer to have the West Coast fans join in progress rather than chancing going well past midnight on the East Cost, should the much-anticipated finale go extra innings...

But what's this??

Ted Williams is still sitting in the dugout for Boston! What a controversial move THAT will be if the 'Sox don't win this...

The Wind is blowing in for tonights game, but the temperature is an almost balmy 47 degrees!

Looking at the Pittsburgh lineup, we see that Thomas is batting 8th today against Brewer. That's because Thomas is only batting .266 against right handed pitchers this year, the worst in the starting 8.

But take a look at the Boston lineup. Where is Ted Williams???? Where is Hal Smith??? Has the stomach flu hit the Red Sox club house? The press box is buzzing as the players take the field to start the game...

Top of the First -

Bottom of the First -

- Frank Robinson flies out to DEEP center, drawing a gasp from the crowd who thought it might be gone.
- Stan Musial knocks a 1-0 fastball into center field for the first hit of the game!
- Eddie Mathews flies out to center and Musial has to hold at first. Two outs.
- The catcher Smokey Burgess rips a 1-2 fastball to left, but right at Stephens who catches it for the third out.

Scoreless game after one inning...

Wynn's looked great so far, but remember he was unstoppable for five innings in Game 3... Pirates fans have to hope he can keep it together this time!

Bottom of the second -

- Mazeroski is walked on a 3-1 fastball.
- The Pirates decide to try and take advantage of Roseboro's weak throwing arm and give the sign to Maz (speed 55) to steal second. Oh no, the Red Sox anticipate the call and Pitch Out!!! Maz is out by a mile!!! One out...
- Bob Skinner singles up the middle, and the Pirates have another base runner.
- Dick Groat strikes out on a 2-2 breaking ball, and we have 2 outs.
- Thomas flies out to right to end the inning.

After two innings of play, it's still scoreless.

Top of the third -

** Wynn has only thrown 13 pitches so far!

- Malzone grounds the 0-2 pitch to short for the first out.
- Moss is swinging at the first pitch and grounds a single into left field. He's not a threat to run with a speed of 28, and the Pirates expect a bunt from the pitcher, due up next.
- Instead, Brewer swings away on the 0-1 pitch and lines to center for the second out!
- Bill Virdon is struck out by Wynn and the inning is over.

After two and a half, we are still scoreless.

Bottom of the third -

- Early Wynn grounds out to second to start the inning.
- Robinson pulls a 1-2 fastball down the left field line for a single.
- Robinson's got wheels, but the Pirates decide not to run this time.
- The 2-1 to Musial.... Musial swings and knocks a line drive to center. Robinson will round second and coast into third!!! The Pirates have runners at the corners with only one out!
- Brewer bears down and gets Eddie Mathews to swing through a 1-2 fastball for the second out.
- Up comes Burgess... He swings at the first pitch and singles to center! Robinson scores and Musial moves up to second!
- Maz is up next, but he can't keep the magic going and is struck out on a 1-2 breaking pitch!

The Pirates strike first here in the third and lead by 1!

Top of the fourth -

- Wynn strikes out his 3rd of the day by striking out Goodman for out number one.
- Stephens BELTED a shot to DEEP center, but the wind kept it in the park much to the relief of the Pittsburgh crowd. Two out.
- Kaline flies out to right, and Wynn is looking great through four innings.

In the middle of the fourth, it's the Pirates by 1.

Bottom of the fourth -

- Bob Skinner swings at the first pitch and DOUBLES down the right field line!! The Pirates are looking to pad their lead here in the fourth!
- The Red Sox decide better safe than sorry and decide to pull Brewer from the game after only 3 innings. Tom Hurd is the new Boston hurler.
- Groat hits a towering fly to left, and Stephens settles under it for the first out of the inning.
- That brings up Frank Thomas who grounds out to short, but moves Skinner up 90 feet to third base.
- That brings Wynn to the plate. Wynn is pitching so well, the Pirates have no choice but to let him hit for himself. Wynn falls behind 0-2, but HITS A TOWERING FLY TO RIGHT... that is caught by Kaline in front of the warning track... Hurd gets the job done and prevents any more damage...

After four, Pirates 1, Red Sox 0

Top of the fifth -

- Eddie Robinson leads off the fifth for the Sox, and works the count to 3-2 before drawing the base on balls. It's Wynn's first walk of the game. Maybe an indication that he is starting to tire? He's only thrown 46 pitches, so the Pirates aren't too worried yet.
- Roseboro swings at the first pitch he sees again, and pops out to shallow left. One down.
- Frank Malzone knocks the 0-1 fastball into right and the Red Sox now have runners on first and second with one out...
- Les Moss gets a hold of a 3-2 fastball and drives it to deep left, but it is caught by the sprinting Robinson. Runners hold, two outs.
- The Red Sox decide to let Hurd bat for himself, and he grounds out to second to end the inning. Whew!!!

Still a 1-0 Pittsburgh lead in the middle of the 5th.

Bottom of the fifth -

- Frank Robinson grounds out to Goodman to start the inning. One out.
- Musial steps to the plate 2 for 2, but also grounds out to Goodman. Two outs.
- Eddie Mathews takes a full swing on the 2-1 fastball, but just tips it between third and the pitcher. Nobody can get to it in time and Mathews is safe at first with an infield single!
- Doesn't matter however, as Burgess strikes out for the last out of the inning. Hurd is looking strong in relief so far...

At the end of five, the Pirates lead by 1.

Top of the sixth -

** This will be Wynn's third time through the order... He's only given up 2 hits and one walk so far on 68 pitches...

- Virdon flies out to center to start the inning, one away.
- Goodman flies out to left for out numebr two.
- Gene Stephens draws a 4 pitch walk, and the Red Sox have a two out base runner with Kaline coming to the plate.
- Kaline swings at the first pitch and lines out to left. Wynn is still cruising!

After five and a half, it's still 1-0 Pirates

Bottom of the sixth -

** Hurd, and edurance 10 pitcher is still in the game, having already thrown 27 pitches. How long will the Red Sox keep him in the game???

- Mazeroski is up first and Hurd continues to look strong as he gets the mighty Maz to ground out. One down.
- Skinner comes to the plate, 2 for 2 on the day. The 3-2 pitch is DRIVEN TO RIGHT! IT'S DEEP! but it's caught at the wall by Kaline for the second out of the inning. Damn!
- That's enough to scare the Boston dugout to make a change, and Bill Henry is the third Boston pitcher to make an appearance in this game 7.
- Henry faces groat and gets him to fly out to shallow left. Inning over.

At the end of six, it's still a 1-0 ballgame...

Oh, doctor, we're still sucking down the brews and nervously keeping our scoresheets. I got mustard on my shirt but don't give a hoot. My wife keeps elbowing me, making beer drizzle down my chin. I've created a monster -- she's a-hoopin' and a-hollerin' and gettin' this whole section riled up .

I paid $100 for these seats, so a couple of West Virginians are here. Glad I saved up the money. Worth every penny.

Top of the seventh -

** This is where it's going to get interesting, as the Sox have some big bats on their bench!!!

- Eddie Robison leads off the seventh against Wynn who has pitched a great game so far. Robinson hits a ball DEEP TO LEFT!! IT'S AT THE WALL AND .... caught by Frank Robinson... I think that ball was gone if it wasn't for the wind... One LONG out.
- Roseboro is up and doesn't swing at the first pitch this time. His patience pays off as he smacks a shot down the left field line for 2 bases.
- So now Malzone is coming to the plate, and Wynn has thrown 84 pitches. The Pirates have a decision to make. Given the fact that the Pirates bullpen has been blown up in three straight games, the Pirates decide to leave Wynn in for at least one more batter...
- The 1-2 to Malzone... It's popped up in foul ground and caught for the second out!!!
- Wynn stays in to face the number 8 hitter, the SS Moss.

- BUT HERE WE GO!!!! Moss is heading back to the dugout.... and TED WILLIAMS starts swinging a bat on the on-deck circle. Will Pittsburgh counter with a new pitcher??? Let's see. Williams is batting .476 in this World Series, and I'm not sure anyone would be any better than Wynn.... I'm sticking with Wynn!!!! Here, take a look at Ted's card while I let the suspense build a little longer. You'll see why he wasn't in the starting lineup for today's game. He's "A little tired"... ****....
