Hi,

It's great that you already have all these pilots!

The info I have is the crews list researched by "Bluey" Mottershead who I believe was the president of the squadron association.
He admitttedly may have some typos but does list Clarke, J.Y. and Cotter, J.D.

Never thought I would be posting an Ebay store but this one does seem to have some interesting raw data concerning New Zealand's military history. I thought you might like this info to help fill out those N.Z. forces. (Leaders and pilots???)

quote:

Colonial CD Books http://stores.ebay.com.au/Colonial-CD-Books

Welcome to Colonial Cd Books where we offer reproductions of old and rare books, mainly based around New Zealand's colorful past, to help with researching New Zealand Genealogy and History.

Appointments, Promotions, Transfers and Resignations of Officers of the New Zealand Military Forces. 1939 to 1945 inclusive.

Extracted from the New Zealand Gazette, this searchable cd shows the movements through the ranks of the New Zealand Expeditionary Forces during WWII. Includes records from Army, Royal New Zealand Air force, Royal New Zealand Navy. A great companion cd with the WWII Ballot Lists.

WWII Ballot Lists - Notice as to Men called up under the National Service Emergency Regulations 1940 for Service with the Territorial Force.

A two Cd Set containing over 310.000 names, addresses and occupations of the men who were called to service during World War 2. These lists also include a considerable number of men who volunteered for overseas service, and also includes the names of some men who were already serving in Home Defence Units. The Cd's are searchable.

These CD Books are in PDF and are reasonably priced, even if you only use them once or twice.

There are some very interesting titles on New Zealand's WWI military heritage in there as well.

Hi,

FYI

As a relative of Flight Lieutenant Hornibrook, I can assure you he was a proud Australian, rather than British.

Harold, or Kevin as he was called was killed in action on 24 Aug 1943. Two of the crew members who survived and where POWs in Stalag Luft III named their first borns Kevin in his honour.

Great job including these men.

Cheers
Lewis

Hi Lewis

that is one hassle with the game system, the pilot is going to be the background of the Unit and not the pilot, so a RAF Squadron will be seen as British, while a RAAF Squadron would be Australian (same as any English Pilots flying with a Polish Squadron, will be seen as Poles)

no slight or mistake intended, it is just the way the game engine is

Real Life Pilots For Inclusion

Hi you,
just I´ve found this posting here. You talked about my father who was pilot in 3.JG26. I´m very interessted where from you got this informations :
Bäumener, Helmut; 3./JG 26 (Recovering from wounds 20/6/43 (fit early 9/43); Fw; 0 Kills
My father was claimed from Spitfire at 8.9.43 at a small town called Sainghin_en_Melantois close to Lille North in france. This Spitfirepilot was an australian named FltSgtBlumer. My father survived this crash an this war was finished for him at this day. And he has kills :
1 IL-2 in russia (Staraja Russa)
1 B17 togehther with katschmarek
He talked about some more but I can´t remember this. The reason why you can´t find claims of many JG26-pilots in any archive is that most flightbooks getting lost at last days of war because of very often changing airfields hiding from american bombers and their hunting little friends.

So greets and hope you do a little reply ! Thanks !

sorry for the delay in replying

one source is Caldwell's the JG 26 War Diary II

March 15th 1943, Uffz Helmut Baumener joined I./JG 26 in Russia from flight training

Hmmm

March 14th 1943, FW Helmut Baumener, joined 3./JG 26 (was a Wehrmacht Veteran who had already won the Iron Cross first class)

Aug 31st, reports FW Helmut Baumener returns to 3./JG 26 (looks like return to duty, from ferry duty ?)

Sept 8th, Oblt Beese was shot down, along with FW Helmut Baumener (who had just returned to duty after a long convalescence, forced landed near Lille, this time he was not able to return to the unit from his wounds)

I have him being WIA on the 06-20-43 and again on 09-08-43

I do not show any kill claims with this book's lists

this is info taken from the book on another web site

I/JG-26 (joins 3/43 in Russia), 3/JG-26 Fw 190A-4, Fw 190A-5 Werk # 2688 (lost) EK 1 & 2 & Narvik Sh.(as Wehr. Inf. vet), Wound Badge, Fighter Operational Clasp in Bronze WIA 8 September, 1943 during aerial combat with a Spitfire of RAF No. 302 Sq. W of Cambrai. Severely injured, he force landed in a farmyard in Lille, however, never returned to JG-26. He is believed to have suffered another wound in Russia, since it is noted that he returned to 3 Staffel in August 1943 after a long convalescence.

my kill lists do not show him, but as you say, most of the lists are not complete
