You may notice that a little more than half of the stukas made it out and back.  The Soviet air defenses were fearce in the Leningrad area and in hindsight I probably should have sent some fighter escorts.

May also be the AA bug at work; ships seem way over-powered in terms of AA at the moment.

Yeah but I'm beta testing the 3.0.0.17g version which supposedly has fixed the AA bug. So I'm guessing that it's the Soviet fighters at work here. I could be wrong of course.

250+ fighters vs. undefended Stukas should be a slaughter, imho ;) (An aside: Does the new version fix the AI:s tendency to suicide attack fleets with air assets?)

I'm not sure. I'm hotseating this FitE game. But I'm pretty sure that's one of the things we're gonna test.

After two combat rounds in turn 27 the Axis is still seemingly winning in the air at least:

Most of the Axis progress was in the Sevastopol pennsula as can be seen in this moves movie for turns 25 thru 27:

If we take the 253rd Inf Division as an example we can see that several of the regiments are seriously understrength:

It is well known that the air loss report exaggerates the enemy losses but even with half the reported Soviet losses, it's an impressive shoot-down by the Axis, and this is before any combat takes place:

And after the first combat round:

And after the second combat round:

Most of the progress in turn 28 happened in the southern half of the front lines, approaching Sevastopol, and gaining some hexes to the NorthEast of Dneprodzerzhinsk, etc. :

I'd be greatful to hear from the scenario designer what the status of Petsamo, Finnland, is for sending Finnish troops up there to help in the reduction of Murmansk.  I mean can they cross the border going eastward into Russia up there or.....???

Here's the south half of the front lines as seen by the Axis.  Those holes in the lines are probably going to be plugged by the Soviets since they always have been plugged in the past:

The Axis has moved a lot of railroad engineers in to help repair the railroad leading to Sevastopol so the attack can proceed more quickly.  The ceasefire is scheduled to begin turn 32 and the Axis needs to have sacked Sevastopol before then, hopefully:

In the Leningrad area, the idea was to defend along the river since it offered a defensive advantage but now the Axis is across the river and there's no longer any reason to defend there, so the Soviet dude is thinking about pulling his some of his units back during the cease fire to more defensable positions, to the entrenched area, where the supply is better, where the lines will be shorter, where the artillery can be concentrated more, etc. :

Here's some Axis losses so far ( before combat in turn 30, and the large jump in numbers of units in play is due to the breakdown of some units in the Soviet counterattacks last turn ):

Soviet counterattacks near Petsamo ( near Murmansk ) has shattered the Axis lines and probably only be saved by the advantageous appearance of some Finnish divisions:

The Axis has decided that the 163rd Inf Div and the 6th SS Inf Div were not in the most advantageous positions and they are to be repositioned to the NW of Leningrad, closer to the city center itself and any gaps caused by the movement(s) are to be filled in by Finnish troops:
