I am cool with everything that's been said in this thread, and am sure games will be blast to play.

Only three words worry me, but they make me worry a lot.

Those three words are.

1. Role
2. Playing
3. Aspects

I think it will rock, honestly I cant wait, I just hope WiTP is shown the same love, and that it is extended to other areas of the game, Imagine:

Being able to tell your strike aircraft to go after ships they can actualy sink, instead of the Computer ordering them all to bounce bombs off armored ships, they go after the CL's and DD's? Or targeting just tankers in a Convoy? The posbalilitys are endless....

If the game is done right, people will again find a reason to complain. Imagine: your patrol aircraft reported 2 BBs + escorts - you send massive strike only to realize it's an old oiler with DD escort or somesuch. Next steps => Open Matrix board => complain about the search & report routines

Yeah, that would be completely unrealistic...

We're hoping for the UV carrier game to be done first half of 2007 and the carrier strike game will follow after that (probably 9 months to a year later, but that's just a guess).

Joel, first off just let me say that the original UV is a great game....second only to Campaign Series games in the amount of hours of life I've wasted...

Reactions to the announcement of UV Deluxe seem mixed and I'm sad to say I'm not terribly excited about it either....

Perchance you could elaborate on other changes to the engine (if any).

I'd like to request a full-blown scenario and map editor to be included with the new game so that some enterprising fella can make me a War in the Mediterranean mod.

I did not log in for ages and even had to reset my password to again be able to, but I have to say:

The announcement that there will be a new Carrier Strike is the greatest news since years for me here. I think most people who played and loved the original will agree with me, and probably also all those who loved SSG´s Carriers at War (which I still play to this day). The only problem I see here is that the idea is to first implement the "raw" carrier battles engine into Uncommon Valour, and then develop it from there. While I understand the rationale behind that from a mercantilistic point of view, I think this stage should really simply be skipped.

Hartmann

Btw if the concept of CS is retained, then "roleplaying" just means that there will be a campaign where the historical scenarios are played one after another. If your guys get experience, they will keep it through the campaign. Also, if, say, at Midway you manage to save some CVs, you will still have them in later scenarios etc.

Whether it's the old Talonsoft games, like BoB or BtR, or the ones in question, if there aren't serious efforts at cleaning up the interface, then I'm not interested. The menuing systems are just too difficult to navigate and use, carpal-tunnel syndrome being what it is to the erstwhile wargamer. And that assumes that the developer is capable of putting out a product that is mature and ready for play when it's shipped.

I already own:

BoB
Btr
CS
UV
WitP

I play none of them. They're just too hard to use on the front-end, and too buggy as play progresses.

There's no reason for me to make any further purchases unless each is TRULY remade. I have no interest in "knock-offs" of the originals. If these words are harsh, take comfort in knowing that they're absolutely heartfelt and sincere. I wouldn't be doing the developers any favors by sugar-coating my thoughts on the subject, as an otherwise enthusiastic consumer of all this stuff.

So did this become a "Carriers at War" remake, or is this one still planned as well?

Hello...

"Carriers at War" remake is being done by another develpment team. Carrier Force (UV Deleuxe) and Carrier Strike are being developed by 2x3 Games. We are working hard on them, right now.

Bye...

Two comments:

1.  Both UV and WitP have been incredibly popular despite bugs.  I'm one of the few, I think, that tried WitP and didn't like it, preferring the intimacy of UV and relatively sane time required to play it.  I like 2by3's plans.

2.  Is that really a picture of Oleg?

Like others in this forum I would prefer that 2by3/Matrix start a War in the Mediterranean .
Though I am not a computer buff in any way I could see it using the UV/WPO or WiTP format/engine. I must say that I haven't played WitP as yet but I am currently enjoying playing WPO.
I am not too sure if the UV or WiTP format would be the most benificial or even if a "gamers mod" to convert from the existing system would be possible. Anyway I can't see why there has to be a UV "Deluxe" issue when a new game could be developed.

You have got to be kidding me................Do not take this wrong, but how old are you? I grew up messing with DOS games all the way to here. So I guess I am just used to the interfaces. I do not find BOB, BTR, UV, or WITP to be hard, overly buggy (all complicated games have some bugs) or anything else. I have only heard someone say the same thing as you if they are young (16-25) or professional programers.

But, I am a "grognard" and they have yet to make a game that can overwhelm me. Micromanagment is my trade.

UV is small in scope?  You never would've said that prior to WITP!  Many people see the manual for UV and back off due to it's size.  I know WITP's is even larger, but don't lose sight of what UV was when it was new as there wasn't a game around that offered what it did.
