Rugged Defense has an opening for TOAW III scenariors under the title of "ME" scenarios. I guess "ME" stands for Matrix Edition.

I have also asked the Wargamer site to open a new page for TOAW III scenarios.

The SZO page seems to be a good scenario depot for all versions of TOAW.

Wow . . . if you search on Matrix Edition only "one" scenario pops up!! Wonder who posted the one (and so far) and only scenario for TOAW III???

Think you need some more authors to contribute.

Excellent! Thanks for the links and sites to check. I suppose that TOAW III is still a bit too new to have many scenarios available for it. Will keep checking though.

I think you can use almost all of the CoW edition scenarios, just open them in the editor, save them, and presto-chango they are ME scenarios.  The sticking point is using the earlier version scenarios, as you need to make them CoW scenarios first, and if you don't have CoW then you are SoL with ME.  There are also some issues with earlier scenarios having too much transport for units compared to what is optimal for either CoW or ME, but since I'm not a scenario geek this is all second hand from reading what wiser heads have posted, take with a grain of salt.

A good chunk of what is there at Rugged Defense is included in ME (or is TOAWIII the correct form?), so only having one posted as ME isn't as bad as it sounds.

Speaking of all of the above, could somebody convert "Ardennes Gamble 44" by Bud Windham, a volume 1 scenario to either CoW or ME?  I'd like to try a simpler Bulge game, and it seems to be the only one around until HPT KUNZ release his planned Regimental bulge scenario for ME.  Any advice on what would need to be tweaked to make it ME friendly would be great.

I need to track down a scenario I used to love to play. I believe it was called Third World War. It was at a playable scale in my opinion and covered a large area. I remember wishing it had more of the middle east mapped out but was still a great scenario.

The scenario by Trey Marshall?

A classic. I played that game many times.

Send me your email to: menschenfresser AT rcn DOT com and I'll send you the scenario converted to COW. From there you can save it in the TOAW3 editor. Not sure what needs to be done since I haven't looked over the scenario.

Thanks for the info and the links guys. I found it last night and converted it to "III". Brings back old memories, lol.

Not had a chance to play too much through it yet to see how the transport works out. Now I'm working on figuring out what scenarios that are available for CoW that are not on III so I can download, covert, and add them in.

Thanks! I cut the German artillery transport levels a bunch (brought the number of trucks down to just a few) and gave the Americans in the center and South a boost in proficiency and entrenchment levels, cut the German supply level, tweaked the first few turns shock value, and it played out fairly historically, with a couple of exceptions - one being the 106th division holding out behind the lines for the whole game?

Maybe this belongs in the scenario design section, but does anybody know if you could "freeze" the German armor on turn one (they led with infantry, trying to clear the way) and what would make a unit more likely to surrender? Do units surrender?

Shouldn't this be up to the player?

In certain circumstances one can consider evaporation to involve a surrender of a part or the whole of the unit.

Evaporation occurs when a unit takes heavy losses and fails a quality check (readiness and proficiency).

Perhaps, although it's an interesting design question as to how much freedom the player should have or when the player should recieve it. The German army commanders were pretty heavily micromanaged, especially concerning the opening phase of the attack. Also, a lot of the key operational players were only given details about the plan shortly before the attack commenced, so there wasn't a lot of time for "scrubbing" the plan according to local realities.

Here I think that some rigidity during the opening turn is OK. On the opposite end of the scale you have the much more logical "Plan Martin" that has recieved excellent treatment in TOAW as it's own scenario, where the player is unburdened by Hitler's desire for a unrealistc big solution.

I'm sure a lot of players would prefer to have complete control, but it is interesting to me to make a scenario to "behave" in an historical fashion.

The beauty of this, or any other good wargame, is that it can be a pure gaming contest, a learning tool, or a lab for the armchair historian.
