good god man!!
6 battalions of 203s, 6 platoons of flamers, and 6 platoons of Engineers.
No Regular infantry Squads. All heavy arty.
I reckon you don't exactly go for realistic core forces huh?

you should play with the guys that i used to play online with everynight, and who still play online everynight.
your force would fit right in...
wow

Is this Spwaw 8.403?

Alby,

Heh. I told you I was a pretty extreme Cat2 player.

But actually, I am doing this to prove a point to Riun T.

Riun T said that I wasn't a man unless I used FlashFyre's format.
I told Riun T that FlashFyre's format was only a foundation and needed a LOT of details worked out (like core composition, for instance).
But Riun T wasn't listening. He called me out again and said that if I had balls, then I would shut up and stop complaining and just play FlashFyre's format. Sigh...
Okay, Riun T. This one was for you.

P.S. I agree that Reduced Squads ON and Reduced Ammo ON hurts the AI a LOT more than it does the human player. (I also tried to explain this to Riun T, but he wasn't listening to that either.)

azraelck,

Riun T was using 3000 points, so I decided to use 3000 points also.

Don't forget his masses of calvary, Alby.

What was the visibility of this battle? 1? 2? Against real infantry, supported by heavy weapons and at a range greater than 50m, your lack of real infantry and tanks equipped with long-raged guns would become a liability. Furthermore, I'll gleefully point out that you failed to do exactly what you said you were going to do; follow Flashfyre's rules for a challenging long campaign. While you had the settings right, you failed to utilize allied forces rather than the major nation that you started as. You deliberately chose the Soviets just so you could avoid that particular rule and attempt to get away with it! While I failed to notice that it was early war vs the Finns until later; still it shows that you chose the Soviets in a point in time that they were not involved in World War II technically; and were under a non-aggression pact with Germany. Thus, they did not have any allies to chose from. You had to have known this; yet you still chose this point in time and nation. It only shows that you do not follow the arbituary rules set up by Flashfyre, and I seriously doubt you follow any rules or agreements at all. After all; someone who can't be trusted to do a simple thing such as play using forces from a minor nation; rather prefers to deliberately try to circumvent that rule by choosing a nation who was not allied with anyone at the time of the campaign start just to work around that rule; cannot be trusted in a more competitive state; whether PBEM or when comparing screens for campaign scores.

If you chose a Major country, and then stuck with that major country, then your just being a hypocrit when you complain of Riun T doing the same thing with using US Army forces. I'm sorry, but your whole argument is invalidated by this; you did not stick with the Flashfyre campaign format; same as Riun. Since you knew the Soviets had no allies to draw from (discounting every non-major allied nation like Greece or the Free French; who were technically allied with the Soviets); you should have chosen on of the other nations, and used their allies' troops.

azraelck,

You are missing the point. The FlashFyre format specifically says "choose one of the 6 nations". It doesn't say to choose a nation that had historical allies. So what I did was perfectly legal (from a Cat2 perspective) and fair.

But you are missing the point on another level as well. The game I just played was specifically designed to make a point to Riun T (which was lost on you, so will probably be lost on him as well). And that point is: that the FlashFyre format is an INCOMPLETE foundation for a Long Campaign. Riun T called me a chickenshit for not playing FlashFyre format. I responded that FlashFyre format was incomplete and needed work. Riun T ignorned that and called me a coward for all talk and sulk no play FlashFyre format. So this game was DELIBERATELY idiotic to show Riun T that FlashFyre format is not playable right now. I KNOW THAT. But Ruin T does not know that. This game was deliberately designed to help Riun T see what was so obvious to me from the very beginning.

THIS GAME WAS DELIBERATELY IDIOTIC TO SHOW THAT FLASHFYRE FORMAT IS INCOMPLETE AND UNPLAYABLE IN ITS CURRENT CONDITION.

I DELIBERATELY CHOSE EVERYTHING I POSSIBLY COULD TO POINT OUT JUST WHERE FLASHFYRE FORMAT NEEDS WORK. GET IT?

SEE IF YOU CAN SPOT ALL THE OTHER THINGS I DID IN THIS DEMONSTRATION BATTLE TO SHOW WHERE FLASHFYRE FORMAT IS INCOMPLETE AND UNPLAYABLE IN ITS CURRENT CONDITION.

Instead, you call me names when you didn't have a clue what was really going on here, and not the slightest idea what the purpose and point behind this whole exercise was. My theory is that your animosity towards me blinded you to everything else I was trying to accomplish here.

Riun T,

You aren't even playing the way FlashFyre said.

Here is what FlashFyre said.

"A true Challenge Campaign, against the AI, without involving other players, would require the use of the following settings:

AI Advantage - ON
AI Level - 200
Reduced Squads - ON
Reduced Ammo - ON
Weapon Breakdowns - ON
Vehicle Breakdowns - ON
Mines - ON
Command & Control - ON
Use the Hardx2 setting for all battles
Select one of the 6 major nations for your HQ, but then only buy allied equipment (if British, only buy Indian, for example)
Set Spotting to 70% for Player 1, 100% for Player 2
Use Historic Ratings as designed "

So, when you bought all U.S. Army stuff, you weren't following what FlashFyre said. FlashFyre said to pick one of the 6 major nations and then only buy Allied equipment for that nation. You didn't do that.

Here is my initial Core.
FlashFyre format specifies choosing one of the 6 Long Campaign nations, and then using allied equipment to build the core.
Well, I chose the Soviets (one of the 6 nations), but the Soviets don't have any allied nations, so I'm stuck with the Soviets...

6 batteries 203mm howitzers
6 platoons engineers
6 sections BT-7 tanks
6 sections T-28 tanks
6 platoons OT-130 tanks
1 section ammo trucks
1 section mule packs (to fill out 3,000 points)
Note that Historical Ratings are ON (even though I hate them)

Just so you can't edit or delete this, and claim you never posted it.

So... you decided to show up Riun... to show yourself the "better man"... by doing exactly what you found him doing as cheating or ignoring the conventions of the campaign rules set out by Flashfyre... you effectively build a extremely limited core with no versatility at all... reload until you get the extremely poor visibility required for the core's strategy of "Fireflash, Fireflash, Meteor Shower" (you ignored my last post asking for the vis)... do the exact same thing as Riun and refuse, this time on a basically fraudulent basis (refusing to follow the rules of the campaign, whether to "prove a point", or as your original reasoning was, that there were no "allied nations" to draw forces from, counts against you... So you reload to gain a visibility advantage; utilize a strict force designed to take advantage of that advantage unfairly gained, ignore the same convention that you yourself bashed another for doing; then change your reasoning for doing so after you're called out...

I don't think a PBEM is required for me to do anything anymore. You've proven you do not hold to anything, so long as you're able to win. I now seriously doubt you even follow your own "extreme Long Campaign Challenge" rules, just as you've refused to follow those set out by Flashfyre; and I'd imagine that a PBEM would have you insisting on such a ridiculously low visibility, so you could re-use your strategy of "Fireflash, Fireflash, Meteor Shower"; thus proving how "good" you are. Take advantage of the same visibility with a force not specifically designed for that advantage. Then we'll talk. Once more, I've said all I have too. Actually, you've said it better than me, with your own posts. You'll delete or reword them eventually, I already know.

azraelck,

You have attacked my character.  You have attacked my credibility.  You have attacked my integrity.  You have attacked me personally.

More an assassination than an attack.

I can only believe that you think I deserve such shabby treatment because you evidently think I'm scum.

Back in the 1600s, during the Inquisition, a person needed only to be accused of being a witch to be tortured and burned.

In the real world, unsubstantiated personal attacks of this nature are called libel, and in a court of law is considered defamation of character.

What azraelck has done here is not trivial and is not easy to simply gloss over.

Everybody who reads azraelck's ubsubstantiated and malicious personal attacks against me will be affected by them, especially those who are involved in any joint effort with me.

In effect, azraelck is telling everybody who reads the post quoted above that I am untrustworthy, unscrupulous, unprincipled, and unethical. A man of the very worst character.

His statements are tantamount to a call for the SPWAW community to label me a pariah and to shun me, to cast me out as he himself has done.

For somebody who resented being "labeled" a Cat1 or a Cat2 player, azraelck has decided instead to label me unclean and unworthy. And has done it in writing on the internet so that everybody on the planet who ever reads his post will get a chance to label me a pariah and to shun me as well (such as potential future employers, potential future business associates, potential academic associates, etc.).

And once the seeds of doubt have been planted in people's minds, it impossible to undo that deed, even if those seeds are later determined to be incorrect. Which is, of course, why libel can be criminally prosecuted.

At this point, I don't know what to do. Talk to a lawyer? I do know this. Every day I let pass without taking some action is another day that azraelck's post will have the opportunity to spread farther and farther afield out into the internet.

Okay. I just got back from a long walk and had a talk with a close friend of mine.

His advice was that I try not to turn this incident into a raging firestorm (although he realizes that it is a pretty big deal to me).

Anyway, he thinks that I should do my best to calm down and try to explain my point of view as rationally as I can.

I’m still pretty upset right now, but I am considering what he said.

Perhaps more to follow. . .
