Singers inches closer to destruction and I see some light at the end of the tunnel.  One of my divisions there is in bad shape and will need some R & R, but 2 of them are fresh and in fighting trim - they'll move into Burma.  The engineers, arty, and "average" divisions will get a few days rest before I land them on Luzon.

I was about to get desperate.

After a week of sailing KB uselessly around off Tarawa and maleaop I retired to refuel and rearm - of course, then Raver snuck in a fast transport group to suplpy Tarawa (one of my subs spotted them).  bastards.

Finally, after months of siege, poorly managed attacks and lack of progress, Singapore has fallen.  48,000 allied troops went into captivity, and boosted my score by a healthy margin.  Best of all, although there is little in the way of supply, I've got a tonne at Johore Bharu and mersing for my bombers - which means Singapore will be flush with supplies by next turn.  The best news is, although the shipyards were damaged, the heavy industry was not (and other resources weren't too bad).  With the heavy industry intact, I just need to supply oil and resource (which I've got tons of nearby) to start producing supplies to get things set right.

Just freed up 200 Sallies, umpteen naval bomber squadrons patrolling for allied resupply and a LOT of firepower and engineers.  Those sallies will move to bomb Manila now, and soon I'll be celebrating victory there as well.  Once that is done, well my garrison forces are in place - my supplies are running forward, resource and oil are running back smoothly, my economy is in great shape (best it ihas ever been in a WITP game for me! Some great articles out there on how to do it well) and I'll have the lion's share of my army freed up for other operations.

Like slaughtering some pesky allied troops on some atolls.

Anyone know anything about the rules for landing on an atoll? If Raver's got 10 divisions stacked on Maleaop, I have to land 11 right?

Due to recognizing the difficulty of moving around defensive forces on an atoll under fire, now only a 1 to 10 ratio is required for guaranteed victory. Just land 1 division to his 10, or a battalion to his division.

For success I believe you will need:

Two (2) bananna-armed legions
Three (3) meat-eating elephants
Four (4) Liters of the juice of grapes

Good Luck!

Happy New Year!

Pretty good, but don't get too cocky: historically the Japanese bagged about 130,000 men.

As if I even HAVE 10 divisions, I would not put all of my eggs in the one basket .  Truth is most of my "spare" troops are earmarked for a new operation.

Well folks the action in the Marshalls is hotting up, last turn I conducted an air raid on the boy wonder's airfield at Kwajalein to supress his fighters and wreak any bombers that he had there. It went very well and the CR showed 108 hits on his runways. Soooooo with that in mind I once again launched an Alpha Strike but this time switch to the port..............look at the number of ships that I bagged ! Twas a good day !

You "spent" a CV, 2 BBs, a half dozen Cas, some Cls, lots of dds, and 100 transports for taking those bases - and you've lost about 500 aircraft since you took them as well (to my 50 or so).  This was the first time it worked.  Not sure why my fighters didn't fly - but I'll address the issue.

In war you have to "spend".  Get used to it, you are going to be "spending" sh1tloads in the near future.

And only 1 side can afford to spend like that.

Its the start of the beginning of the end of the beginning, not the end of the beginning of the end of beginning.

IMHO the most valuable thing Raver accomplished so far was tying down the KB at a known location -- when the Allied player knows where it is, he knows where it ain't.

Bingo....plus the fact that I now have two "unsinkable" CVs right on top of Luskan's defensive line.

Gutsy play Raver - i am amazed at the date!! You will miss those 100 AKs later in the war, but i think you have screwed up Luskans timetable enough to justify it.

Happy New Year to you both.

Kwajalein cops another pounding.  Though I suspect that i am just hitting ships that were unable to run from the last pasting that they got.  100 + transports is not a great loss for the allies, indeed the allies can afford the losses.....IJN cannot.

Andy Mac experiences a severe shortage of transports in his game against PzB and I´m also happy about every AK I have in my late Allied PBEM. Since I know that I´m happy with every transport I sink as the Japanese. It´s surely not winning the war but it´s making the life harder for the Allied later on...

HAPPY NEW YEAR RAVER AND LUSKAN!

Hey Raver, nice work in the Marshalls! Are your SDB squadrons on Wotje and Tarawa United States Marine pilots or are they Navy boys who have had their carriers damaged or sunk?

G'day Mark VII....seasons greetings to yourself and wife unit Mk I

There is one squadron of Marine SBDs on both Tarawa and Kwajalein and one fragment from a Navy squadron. There is also one squadron on Baker Island which will be used to rotate between the other two.

Baker Island has played a VERY large part in this campaign, as it has been a staging area for aircraft and shipping, as well as supplies. Needless to say it is now well protected.

Raver didn't post the turn where 3 of my subs off Baker attacked his DMS force and got 3 hits ;) 2 DMS and a DD sunk in 1 turn by my subs.

Admittedly, situation isn't good however.

And IIRC your subs got whacked in return.  I would have prefered a hard kill but damaging them is better than not hitting them at all.

Agreed. From late '43 on the allied airpower sucks up a LOT of supply, so every AK is useful - but i still think this was a brilliant move by Raver. Very rare for the Allied player to have the initiative this early.

ok, ok, so Raver only has the initiative in one small sector of the map. but many allied players are still playing 'brave sir robin' at this stage of the game.

Luskan does have something of a dilemma on his hands - if he ignores the Allied toeholds in Marshalls and Gilberts they will grow like cancer. If he reacts to them he must divert forces from other ops - either way he loses out in the long run.
