To end the turn I have an upgrade for Logistics. There are a lot of great choices but I'm going with the Nurses to decrease the damage of Disease when I am near my hospitals.

Raiders are set to steal some more weapons.

Events 2/2

Pittsburg captured! No doubt this has caused ruckus in the Union economy. Once the Unrest settles I should be making a few extra bucks also.

Finished a Plantation in Augusta. I also finished a new Camp which has increased my reinforcements to 7,000 men a turn. Finally a Mint was also completed which is good.

Diplomacy has paid off again and Europe has sent me another 28 Iron.

My Block Runners managed to get some Weapons. I'm sending them off to get even more weapons.

Starting out in the West. I managed to escape Missouri. The Union Army has split into three groups strangely enough. There's one group of approx 20,000 men at Arkansas which I will deal with later. McClellan's group of approx 30,000 men is at Black River, this is the group I'm going to try and intercept first. Finally there a group of approx 10,000-20,000 men in Rolla. I assume he is heading to Ewell so I believe Ewell can handle him.

This is a perfect moment to attack since he is divided. I am moving the AOT along with Van Dorn's Division (Who hasn't rejoined the AOT quite yet) to attack the Central Miss. River. I assume McClellan is moving East so he will have to go through this river. I'm going to intercept him, and without doubt, defeat him. After that I'll try to pursue him if practical. If not, I'll go after the group in Arkansas.

At Kentucky I am starting the siege of Frankfort. My artillery will be done next turn so I'll try to get it over if I can.

I'm also demoting Branch and sending him to garrison one of the forts. There are much better division commanders out there that deserve their stars. My Corps Container has also finished so I'm sending that over to join the AOT soon.

In the East the AOP has somehow managed to travel all the way from Harrisburg to Grafton. I don't know how he managed that but I have to stop him.

I've upgraded a lot of my high-quality units in the ANV with Spencer Guns. I'm then moving them down to Parkersburg to stop the AOP. The 4th Corps is also coming to reinforce and is set to Support Move which means when the ANV arrives they will also arrive.

To be safe I'm moving Jackson's Corps of 25,000 men down to Kenawha to stop the Union from cutting off my supplies if he tries. It's not safe for me to divide my forces at this time but it's also not safe to be out of supply.

There MUST be a battle this turn. Let's see who is better.

For my Economy things still remain the same. I have been focusing all my resources on my armies.

I have built a Plantation in Mephis and a Mint in Montgomery, and that's all.

Ending the turn I have two Upgrade choices. I have another Logistics Upgrade so I'm going with Ambulance Department which will increase the range of my Hospitals which should be very useful since I can't take the time or resources to build hospitals everywhere.

I also had an upgrade for Training but there wasn't anything I could use, only for Detailed Combat, so I'm skipping it to see if I can get something useful next turn.

Finally I set my raider to Cause Economic Damage.

I don't know how they affect the Quick Combat, I haven't played the game yet, however in the other AAR's and discussions pre-release I remember them saying that all upgrades affect quick combat.  Some are more affective than others, but they all do affect the combat.  It is nice to know that if you don't get the upgrade you are looking for you can wait until the next turn to see if you can get lucky...  I had a quick question from a couple turns ago.  You kept saying his units looked disorganized - what where you seeing that made you believe this?

What about Instant Battles? Does anyone have any idea if they affect those?

I was saying they were disorganized because of the Battle Reports. He's been losing a lot of battles(Therefore disposition), ratings, supplies, weapons, etc. I also have yet to see an overall commander of the AOP. It's like a bunch of Corps and Divisions just stacked up on each other.

I remember reading that all of the upgrades affect all battles...  You should post in the general forum and see what the developers say.

Gotcha, thanx for the explanation on the disorganized.  I was curious.  Need to get up to speed as fast as possible because when I get the game I want to be able to start a PBEM...

We asked this same question during playtesting and were told that all upgrades help in quick combat in rough proportion to their total resource cost. No details on exactly how they help, but I assumed it was just a % boost of some type.

Check the manual appendix for how much each upgrade helps in the quick combat.

----------------
E.g.

Odds/QC Salvo bonus
25% +1 inf

It means that in QC your infantry brigades have a 25% chance to get a +1 to their salvo (and/or counter-salvo).
----------------

Same bonus should apply to instant battle as it just a quick combat without animations.

Yep.  Things do come up.  My battle with Gil has been delayed by a week long trip to Vegas.  But I'm heading home tomorrow night so we should resume our fight soon.  Hopefully your war will similarly restart after the current pause.

Events 5/5

This was a big turn, a lot happened. I'll go ahead and break it down like I usually do:

My Siege in Frankfort isn't going that well so far but at least it is stopping resources and putting further pressure on the Union.

The Union finished the research Centralized Railways which means their railway transport points are doubled. He'll be able to transport more units and larger units a lot quicker now.

I demoted General Branch with a little loss towards the attitude of the Governor of NC. It was a necessary act, he was mediocre at best and I have excellent brigadiers out there who need their stripes.

Small battle at Mephis! That Corps of 15,000 men actually attacked. They were driven back with high casualties, let's see them try that again.

Next we have the first Major Battle of the War in the East at Parkersburg! The ANV made it in time on the defense and drove the enemy back. My National Will has increased while the Union's has fallen. Good news indeed. I'll post a full report in the next post.

The AOT made contact with McClellan and took out about 1,500 of his men. I hope we can get a proper fight next turn.

Moving onto Economics I managed to take out a hefty 14 resources with my Raiders in Missouri.

I finished a good deal of buildings as well. I finished a Factory and two Mints which further boosts up my economy. I also finished an Armory which increases the much-needed research of weapons. Finally I have finished my Plantation in Savannah which further boosts my economy and allows me to build more buildings there.

Diplomacy remains steady. USA Got some more support from England but that's about it.

On the side my Command Rating for the Aquia division (In the ANV) has increased to Superb. This is extremely good; it's the highest it can get.

My Runners managed to grab some more weapons which is greatly needed. I'm sending them off to grab some Horses and Money.

Finally as you can see it's re-election time. I'll post more details on it later.

Battle Report:

I won a major victory in Parkersburg. This is the first Major Battle of the War; and it's ours! I have disarrayed the AOP further, even with their huge counter-attack I managed to defeat them with the outnumbered (due to being split up) forces of ANV.

I managed to capture a large quantity of high-quality weapons including Spencer rifles for some of my brigades and Ordnance rifles for one of my batteries!

My Rating further improved and I gained some points toward an Experience Upgrade. The Union gained quite a lot towards an Experience Upgrade, I guess everything can't go in my favor.

On the side my small battle with McClellan in the Tenn. River resulted in two of my brigades receiving Minie Rifles which is good.

Moving onto the recent Elections. Most of my Governors stayed in business and kept their position. However the ones that were recently elected are starting out as good allies for the moment, let's hope they support the war effort unlike this Joseph Brown who continues to Govern Georgia.

The Union seems to have gotten a better set of Governors, unfortunately. All the Governors who were adversaries of the Union are now out, but nothing I can do about that.
