Hi. I got the game yesterday.
I started playing as the US in the full campaign & it appears that many ground troops are 'locked' and can't be loaded onto ships - both US & Auctralian forces.

I presume this is to prevent ahistorical deployment.
Is there a way to tell at a glance which units are free and which are locked?

Currently, I form up a transport TF and click the load troops button to see no items displayed in the list.

Thanks. Stu.

Gday Stu,

Most of the starting Australian Forces, with Australia Command in the top left corner ans US Force with the West Coast Command, and I think the New Zealand Forces, are fixed as local defense.

They can only be moved by changing their command (click on their Command name) and spending PP's.

Early days you only have enough PP to change small Bdes or Bns, later you get enough to move some Divisions.

Your assumption is correct.

Any ground unit belonging to a "Restricted Command" needs to be changed to an unrestricted command by paying political points before it can move outside its area.

IIRC the restricted commands in stock are West Coast, New Zealand, Australia, ABDA and USAFFE. You'll have to change their HQ before you can load any of those units onto ships.

Edit: Jeff beat me.

And if you do for example want to pull out some of the forces that are otherwise going to be overrun, set them to no replacements and wait till they have been whittled down by losses to the point where they cost many less PPs to switch. PP cost appears to be generally proportional to size.

If pulling out such forces as the big air base forces, the NEI recce squadrons, or the US air units in the Philippines, remnants of the 4th Marine Regt by sub or air etc, there is no point  paying big PPs when they are at full strength, and then leaving much of the unit behind to be captured by the IJA. Particularly if you just want a sub lifted cadre to put somewhere non malarial and well supplied (such as Pearl Harbour, Melbourne, Auckland, Bombay etc) so it can rebuild and re-enter the fray 12 months later.

I believe India Command and China Command are also restricted, but these units can move anywhere on the Asia mainland. They just can't load onto ships. In my campaign, I managed to march some India Command troops all the way to Korea. The Japanese defense in China fell apart after the massive battle of Nanking where both sides threw in everything that wasn't nailed down. It was the Japanese Stalingrad.

India Command is restricted in CHS, but not in stock scenarios.
