I'm always on the look-out for a game that I can use in conjunction with miniatures.

Is there any way to edit/modify the outcome of a battle in this game?

If so, it seems like it would make a nice PBEM campaign system for occasional use with fighting miniature battles.

I could just play the game PBEM until an interesting force match-up occurred. Then, we could resolve that battle with miniatures, and modify the outcome of the computer generated results to comport with the outcome of the miniatures battle.

Anyone know if this is possible? How hard is it to edit the in-game information/save games to accomplish this result?

A workaround: play the game with miniatures and then replay the battle in PBEM, so that the results match the miniature game results. You probably need to turn off reaction fire for all units. It is a bit cumbersome, but this is the only way to do it.

If many people want this feature it is not impossible to build this in, but its a lot of work. If there is a great demand, we could do it.

There are quite a few minature gamers who need campaign games. You would certainly sell copies to them.

I would buy this game if it had this feature, and I know quite a few other miniature gamers in my local gaming club who would also buy it.

Could you explain how it should work?

Thanks!

Whenever a battle occurs, there would be an option to either allow the battle to occur normally, or else to input the battle results manually.

If you select the "normal" option, the computer game resolves the battle in the regular way. If you select "manual input" then the game pauses, and gives you a list of the units involved, and any data about those units that the computer would use to calculate troop strengths and effectiveness (number of men, supply, morale, fatigue, etc.) Just give the players a screen that displays whatever information that the computer would use in resolving the battle.

If the computer could say what sort of terrain (clear, forest, river hex-side, swamp, etc.) the battle is taking place in, then that would also be helpful. If your game has a tactical battle map, you could even go so far as to generate that.

Then, the game pauses, saves, and prompts you to input the losses to the two sides manually. Then the players go off some time (it could be a week or two later) and play this battle before returning to the game.

When the battle has been fought out between the two players, one of the players returns to the computer game, restarts the game and inputs the losses manually, and it's done. The computer game then goes on as before, with no difference than if the battle had been decided by whatever equations and computer die rolls the computer normally uses.

For example, the attacker and defender meet and engage in battle. The attacker has 10 units and the defender has 8 units. Rather than allowing the computer to resolve the combat and assign losses to the units, the "manual input option" would simply allow the players to determine the results of the battle (for example, the attacker loses 6 units, and the defender loses 4 units.) These losses are then entered into the game by the player, and the computer game continues on as before. The only difference is that the battle results were entered manually as opposed to being resolved by whatever method the computer normally uses to resolve battles.

That's all that is required. There is no need to try and integrate the out of game mechanics. Just a simple way of dictating the results of a battle and entering the battle data into the computer.
