Gents, I found this on the ASL Mailing List and I'd like to support it here too. TIA Santa Klaus Semper Paratus <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< from:Guderian guderian@poczta.arena.pl Gentlemen, 118 sailors of the submarine "Kursk" are dead. They died on duty. Perhaps for some of you, at some time, they were the enemy. Perhaps you patrolled the seas, skies and roads, defending your borders from them. But now, after the Iron Curtain has fallen, by cruel irony of fate the ship bearing the name of great Russian victory became mass grave for helpless men. I dare not to think how they died. I hope it was a quick death. Now i ask you all to send one BLANK e-mail to the list, with one word: salute. Let us unite for one thing. We are either soldiers - active or retired - or we know so much about war that we could put some historians and generals to shame. We are, more or less, servants of Mars. Therefore, we should slaute them. One word, which means so much to their spirits, and their families.

Well I heard from news that they didn't suffer long or most of them didn't as it's supposed that one of torpedoes exploded causing massive destruction inside ship and thus killing most crew instantly. Reson for this eplosion of torpedo may never be anounced due military secrecy but Im sure if it was some sort of terror strike it will be handled accordingly withing russions own system...

Six years in the Royal Australian Navy, though not in the subs. A death like that is deserved by no one. Salute.

Even when I was in the US Army "guarding the Fulda Gap", I would've felt the same. "Bless those who serve beneath the deep, Through lonely hours their vigil keep, May peace their mission ever be, Protect each one we ask of thee. Bless those at home who wait and pray, For their return by night or day." -Rev. Gale Williamson ------------------ Billy Yank I don't define "my own" the way you want me to.

Even in wartime, the dead are to be treated with respect regardless of the side that they are on. I am glad that the Russians and NATO nations could work together for this purpose. Perhaps that is the legacy of the Kursk. Salute and amen. ------------------ An old soldier but not yet a faded one. OK, maybe just a bit faded.

It saddened me greatly to see so many young men killeed in the service of their country. It saddened me even more to see the contempt that the politicians showed to the men that they expected to lay down their lives for their country. This is not a critisism that I lay just at the door of the Russian government, but at all politicianss who seen all to eager to project their politics at the expence of their soldiers, sailors and airmen's spilt blood. Yet they will readily betray those same people and ignor their needs once they no longer need them, often for little other reason then to secure votes. I salute all abord the Kursk, but especially those poor souls who might have been saved had some politician not decided to ignor the offers of aid from the west because they put political considerations before the needs of flesh and blood

Well said Santa Klaus, Billy Yank, Larry Holt, Dave R. I too salute the heros of the ill-fated Kursk. I also would wish to salute the families of the crew who must now bear up under their immediate and irreplaceable loss. I can understand how Russian politics and Russian pride could impede thoughts of calling out and accepting help from other countries. Yet, finally, I also would wish to salute the timely Norwegian & British aid as well as Russia's eventual willingness to accept their help (not an easy 'guy' thing to do, sometimes, eh?) as a healthier sign of the current state of Europe in which other countries are proving to not only be 'ready, willing, and able' to come to the aid of fellow countrymen, but also countrymen of other countries. Albert
