FIRST MATE: Captain, Guam is being invaded.

CAPTAIN: Get the ship underway and let’s get out of here.

FIRST MATE: Where are we headed?

CAPTAIN: Let’s head to Wake Island. We can find safety there.

A couple of days later:

CAPTAIN: It looks like there are plenty of ships here at Wake….maybe one will give us an escort to Pearl.

FIRST MATE: Uhhh, Captain, those ships are flying the Japanese flag.

CAPTAIN: Damn, it looks like Wake was invaded also…..lets head to Midway.

A couple of days later:

FIRST MATE: Captain, Midway is being attacked also….in fact, there is a Japanese Carrier Fleet heading right for us.

CAPTAIN: Let’s head Southwest….maybe the carrier will leave us alone and we can swing about and head to Johnston Island.

A couple of days later:

CAPTAIN: Whew….we finally made it to Johnston Island and to safety. First mate, take us into port.

FIRST MATE: TORPEDOS OFF THE STARBOARD SIDE.!!!!!!

CAPTAIN: Oh, crap!!!

This is the dialog I pictured would be taking place on the Penguin in one of my PBEM games. The poor ship couldn't find a safe port. Everywhere it went, it found the Japanese. It finally make it to Johnson Island, only to be sunk by a submarine.

Pretty good
In my latest PBEM, Penguin sortied from Guam to shell Tinian before cruising to Pearl, she made it safely though...

This is one of my favourite parts of the opening game as the allies. I call it "The Flight of the Penguin." The other is rescuing Gertrude from the the Phillipines.

In one of my PBEM games, Penguin ran into an unescorted Japanese transport TF somewhere in the middle of the ocean. Penguin lost the ensuing fight and went down .

We found out that even though MSW's can be in a bombardment TF they won't bombard. Unfortunate, as it would have been hilarious to see her shell Tinian before retiring to Pearl.

Those Japanese AP gunners are actually pretty good. I recently had 4 Flush Deck DDs intercept 12 unescorted APs. The combat was at close range and the DDs got mauled.

Yes, I have seen several over adventurous subs come up to have a pop at an AP with their deck guns and come off worse.

How about this:

Day Time Surface Combat at 4,82

Japanese Ships
DD Yudachi, Shell hits 7, on fire, heavy damage (Sunk)
DD Uranami, Shell hits 7, on fire, heavy damage (Sunk)
DD Kisaragi, Shell hits 1, on fire
DD Asakaze, Shell hits 4

Allied Ships
CV Indomitable, Shell hits 12

And this was after the CV took 3 air launched torps!

(Brit CVs are tough!)

It's those hard decks.

Yes, I am 3/3 on Gertrude. I usually load her up first and then scatter her with several other ships at once. More luck than anything.
