ORIGINAL: ravinhood EDIT: Also clue me in on Monica Gooding, see, I don't know squat about her, she's not in the news like this piss ant Paris. As usual, wikipedia gives a startlingly up-to-the minute article on Goodling and the entire judicial controversy (and she IS in the news... lots... just not on the entertainment page. She was the Director of Public affairs for the USDOJ and was under Alberto Gonzalez (she was appointed by President Bush). She is currently under fire because she has been implicated as working with Gonzalez in the recent DOJ controversy regarding the dismissal of seven US Attorneys. The implication is that these attorneys were dismissed for political gain, particularly to impede judicial actions against key Republicans or because they failed to target Democrats (there has yet to be a clear rationale given). She is further under fire because her credentials are WOEFULLY short of those needed for her position. While she is a lawyer, she graduated from Pat Robertson's law school Reagent (a tier 4 school according to US News and World Report, with places like Harvard and Yale being tier 1 and tier 4 being very low). Her appointment seems to be driven solely by the fact that she is a fundamentalist Christian, rather than her legal acumen. Hope that helps, RH! SoM
