Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballé - Barcelona.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q0wdxj8-mAU

I certainly hope Montserrat Caballé got paid an awful lot of money for being part of that song...

Best wishes,
Steve

What? You don't like it? To each his own.

I like both Freddy Mercury and Queen as much as Warspite1 adores Tanita Tikkaram and Arsenal.

It is a bit strange really since I have a wide taste in music but every time I hear Freddy Mercury's voice it brings me out in a general wailing and gnashing of teeth.

Best wishes,
Steve

@Wings7

Iam afraid not Wings7, there´s things that can´t/should not be told. As they say, well they don´t but, "what happens in Rock and Roll, stays in Rock and Roll".

I´ll just let you in on one thing that happen that night... They wouldent let me and Mike in the club because Mike was wearing a sweat suit/track suit and the guy at the door had no idea who Mike was. We had to wait till my boss came down the stairs, which was 5min. later.

As in most show´s (the hand-over of the olimpic flag in Barcelona, in this case), after the song/show you usualy take the artist to the best club in the city, if he/she or the band wishes to, or take them on a small tour of the city. Nobody knows where you are going and its usualy a VIP area.

This is the event that took place, I was with the fountain lights and later took Mike to the club...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hkskujG0UYc

It was funny because the back lights of the main building in the background are WWII search lights that have to be lit 2min. before because they light up with gun powder! It was a complicated situation to coordinate with the rest of the lights for the "grand finale"

Interesting story, thanks for that and for the YouTube video!
My original response to you was for your comment on who wrote 'Barcelona'. Your comment: "I had the pleasure of working with them, actualy neither wrote the song." Post 4943

I thought you had new info on who wrote the song.

I still think Mike wrote the song. If your a star, you add a arrangement with a couple of notes to a song and your now co-writer! Iam not saying anything, "who knows", just saying this has been pulled off so many times in the music biz, that it´s not even funny! For the "Image" of the artist you might never know who did what!

Listening to it now.

No idea who Heidi is though. Although, doesn't they all look good?

Edit: A bit abrupt ending.

Yes I noticed that - I'll see if I can get another version. Heidi is the blonde one.

I love this record. Sadly could only get the official video which contains a load of talking rubbish. But this is a really interesting track. One of the benefits of having little warspites I guess. They keep me listening to music that otherwise I would not get to hear .

There's some truly beautiful snippets of music to be found in films. Here is one such example. Absolutely beautiful.

The mix of sounds is astounding, from a deep Cello(?) opening, we move onto the piano before coming back to a mixed string arrangement in company with the piano. About halfway in, I don't know what instrument it is but sounds like there are various wind instruments at work and maybe a horn that builds up and leads into a beautiful vocal that takes the tune to the end. Magical .

Not meant to be - Gregson-Williams (from Shrek 2)

A song from my youth that I liked because the lyrics. Although the melody is catching as well.

Pop quiz: There are two backing vocalists in this song. Can you name, at least, one of them?

Pop videos have come a long way since the 70's haven't they?

Well as this guy is, I assume, Swedish and as the song sounds like it could be an early ABBA toon, and as I don't know any other Swedish singers from that time, I'll say the girls from Abba provided the backing vocals....

You got it. Anni-Frid Lyngstad was hired as one of the backup singers. Although ABBA had nothing to do with this song.

Another fun fact. This song was a hit in Germany before it became a hit in Sweden.

Indeed.

Although nowdays I am to old for the new videos. Often they are to fast paced for my taste. Cutting all the time.

File under "Well who knew"?

I was at a concert that featured extracts of Elgar's Enigma Variations and I thought I heard the opening to Clubbed to Death. Well I did - apparently this was one of three toons sampled for that track.
