I think the golden age of Disco is sorely under-represented on this thread. Here are two classics of the genre:

Ain't No Stopping Us Now - McFadden + Whitehead

Lover Rollercoaster - The Ohio Players

There's a reason for that.

Disco absolutely sucks.

Mmmmm, not entirely sure, but I'm sensing a certain antipathy toward the genre coming from the general Ohio area?

Your senses are spot on.

To me disco is like a lot of early 90's music, just trash.

Maybe it has to happen every 15-20 yrs.

Agree on the early 90's stuff - with few exceptions, the whole "Madchester" scene left me behind (I was still living in the early 80's when music was music) and what was grunge all about?

Really, some of the Manchester/Brithish stuff wasn't too awful.

But like you, the 80's formed my tastes for me.

Even in the late 80's I saw decline, IMO.

I think they're different, and I'll work on that in the next few minutes.

I can tell you tunes like "Right Here, Right Now" epitomize that awful late 80's - early 90's junk.

The less intelligent in the world were all caught up in the wall coming down and actually believed the Russians did more than change the badges on their caps.

But I digress. Down to fun work!

Fine - I just want to get an idea of what you like - e.g. you don't like 90's or Disco

Well that's easy.

Hair bands from the 80's - very early 90's. Ex: Steelheart http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F-nyeiKk35M&ob=av2e

Late 80's Techno - Ex: L.A. Style http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jbbuty3LdO0

Early industrial - Ex: Front 242 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=osQMG9f0HC0

My tastes are eclectic, I'd say.

Techno (back then) was the stuff.

Way back when (a million years ago it seems) we had a club in Dayton called "1470". And that's 90% of what they spun there.

Talk about an eye-opener for a small-town farm boy!

That's not bad, Slaak, but so much of new techno is just "how fast can we make the drum machine go?'

What else is in the teaches of peaches? Like sex on the beaches?
Huh?
Right?
What? Uh.

(See if anyone figures that out.)

"Techno" is merely but one component of the ever-transmuting eternal glory, nate. When synth, bass, various octaves, epic themes, multitudes of various other ethereal spices, gorgeous voices & gorgeous dancing hotties are added to the mix then the resulting finale' is Nirvana!!!
