Also without a device called the "tail hook" the aircraft would just roll off the flight deck and into the sea upon landing. Not a very repeatable process.

final 6 pack. Dixie guessed right and these are his requests:

OK, the fighters I recognize, but can anyone help a guy out and ID that 4E in the 6 pack. I have to admit I don't recognice it. Given a wild guess I'd say either a Lancaster or a Short Stirling, but I'm no where near as good with Brit planes as others.

Joe, so now there's a tail hook device? Very cool. Does this mean, for example, that there will be 2 types of A6M2, those with and those without tailhooks? And, to take it further, land-based IJNAF fighter daitai will not be able to use those with tailhooks?

Thank you. I suspected it might be, but like I said, I'm just not as good recognizing the Brit aircraft as I am American/Japanese planes.

On the contrary: very repeatable, every aircraft that tries it will repeat exactly. I will grant you that it isn't repeatable on the same airframe

Excuse me if you ask this question before, but i would like more about moddeling the skip bombing tactics with LB (B17 included) like 5th Air Force at south pacific.
I wait this will not be a stupid question :)
Thanks in advance

With 500 aircraft in this AE database I am assuming(gulp!!) that you may have some
jets included for the very late war. Is the "chief in charge of sound effects" including a corresponding jet engine sound .wav(s) or will the jets fly around sounding like washing machine charlie? Boy is this a trivial question, but "Hey I gots to know".

Correct me if i am wrong but it seems to me that, in witp, no on board plane is damaged/destroyed when the host ship is hit and damaged.
I think that a random number should be concerned depending of the type and amount of damage taken by the ship like IRL.

Ok question will USAAF Fighter and Bomber units be gruped in squadrons like in CHS or in Groups like in stock?? And here is another now when allies have a squadron arriving they need to have the exact or more planes of the given type in the pool or the squadron will arrive on older models but when the squadron arrives the planes are not taken from the pool they just need to be there. Will the same mechanics be true in AE????

Do we know anything about how Air ASW works?

Do we know if devices are related to the unit or aircraft loadouts - or if they are hard coded?

Do ASW weapons (e.g. DC) work when on aircraft? Do bombs? Do guns? Does it matter if a sub is surfaced or not
in terms of which weapons hit? When we get the message "sub xyz was hit" - what was it hit with? Note that this
message occurs even if an aircraft with NO weapons in its loadout is used for ASW patrol - so one wonders what might
be the device - or is ANY device involved?

The goal is to model skipbombing more closely, incl. AAA supression.

Squadrons rather than groups, which should arrive regardless of the state of the pool.

Air ASW remains unchanged except in the sense that not all units are equal to the task.

Tim tom so let's say i have 10 P-40's E in the Pool and i have 3 Squadrons arriving so they will arrive with 24 P-40's E each.  if yes that is a good solution..

If the 3 squadrons are set to arrive at full strength, then yes, it's going to be like that. However, a lot of squadrons arrive at less than full strength, and then the pool does come into play, when considering how quickly they become fully operational.

Thanks.

I know that pilots will have different skills so there will be dedicated fighter pilots, bomber pilots etc. Is it possible for the player to adjust the ratios of the different pilots. For me, fighter pilots are the most important, so I would like to have far more trained fighter pilots than bomber pilots for example. Is there a way to do this in game?

Well that depends...

Since a number of duplicated and triplicated air units are being eliminated I would imagine there will be fewer air units on the map at any given time when compared to stock (this also applies to land units)...but I have no idea whether the number of actual planes in the aircraft pools will also be smaller...

Pilots aren't actually flagged as one or the other until assigned a unit, ie exactly like now. Not quite realistic I'll grand you, but one of those compromises we have to make to get the game out this decade.

Hey, T-Cub was adressing you, Joe. I think :)

Anyhu, ehm, there's isn't really an easy answer to this one since the OOB transforms significantly over time through withdrawals and resizing (and renaming for that matter), however I think it's safe to say that both players will have less stuff (units and airframes) during the first half of the game and more stuff during the second half.

Without getting into some serious beancounting I would hazard that it probably evens out to a force level comparable to what we've got now.

Replicated question now for AE: Does the game takes in account the cruise speed of an aircraft to check how much time it is on station and then increase detection probability? Let's say i choose the most economic speed instead the most range speed. Will i get any advantage from that for patrol aircrafts? Or the game is only interested in range and not on time?

The game does use cruise speed, but it isn't as involved as you question suggests. Right now Cruise speed is used to determine the speed of a Raid. The slowest A/C is the lowest common denominator and as such sets the raid's speed. This is compared to the Radar range and altitude, LoS to the horizon etc. and that helps determine 1st detection which is then rolled into the Scrambling of CAP. Long story short, the high the cruise speed and the lower the Alt the less notice the CAP wil have. This si a VERY simplistic description of what is going on.

The other place we are using cruise speeds is determining endurance and time on station. Dependent on how far action is occurring from a Base, the cruise speed will help calculate how much of a planes range translates to loiter time. Again simplistic, but you get the idea.

Thank you. Now i started to think of new sector search ability, how the game will handle that? Will make the plane fly in all hexes inside sector giving a loiter time to each of them after checking how many times can travel them? And bigger loiter time increase detection probability for patrols isn't it? At expense i suppose of reaction time to attack a submarine and air to air combat.

Will putting a squadron on search (to develop that skill), help them with ASW, or does ASW have its' own inherent search skills? Does it matter in ASW, or is ASW skill simply a mathematical probability of success?

May i ask how the oscar is handled -do we see it stuck in its 1942 configuration for the rest of the war -or some improvements to reflect modifications as the war went on ( asort of oscar3?)

Im sure the oscar must have been improved as the war went on -considering how important in numbers it is to the JAAF?

Thankyou
