I'm sure it has been answered before but can the floatplanes fly cap now?

What for?

EDIT: At least what for after ~March 42?

I think so. I would hope that also any Patrol/Bomber plane can employed as an ASW escort. It was very comon.

Btw. Is there anyway to force a floatplane plane in a ship to go to land instead returning for the ship? If i classify such a plane as a patrol will it still return to the ship?

You simply tranfer it to a base.

I know, but i want it to do the patrol and go to land instead of ship, it can be the most nearby base. It is for ships that don't have recover ability.

In AAR's it appears that Ki-51 Sonias, Ki-30 were reclassified as bombers instead of dive bombers. Wouldn't their mission of close air support be better simulated as fighter bomber than level bomber?

yes, they were since they do not have divebrakes.
If i look at the specification of the Ki-51 and Ki-30, they should not be classified as fighter bombers. They were light (very light) bombers, and performed that way

IMO the attack profile of Fighter Bombers is i think much more similar to the atack profile of Sonias and Ki-30's IRL than of Level Bombers.

Specification doesn't matter for this, it is an hack. No one will put them as a fighter.

Some of the Catalina flying boats had wheels, earlier ones did not..Has the game been able to make a differentiation now?(In vanilla you could not base any of them in an interior strip.)

Both Ki-30's and Ki-51's are already classified as Light Bombers in the AE, no need to give them Fighter-Bomber specs.

Is there Night flying experience among other pilot skills? Or how are night fighter groups differenced from daylight besides the "Flying Day Operations -Change to Night" switch?

There's a complex set of pilot skills in AE, but night experience is not distinguished.

I can't specifically answer your question, and I'm not an expert on Japanese radar, but I can give you the following:

1. You won't see Japanese radar in base forces when the war begins, just sound detectors.

2. I see maybe a dozen different radar types in the device pools and some are available beginning in 1942.

3. Radar upgrades for your base forces will depend on supply, HQs, and device pool availability.

But I hope night planes are bit more effective in their night roles than common daylight planes at night...

If I read this correctly, Catalinas can now make torpedo attacks in the daytime. Am I right? In WITP, only Night Naval Attacks were possible.

Is this also true for Ms. Emily?

You read it correctly, and yes, Ms. Emily can do the same.

Keep in mind that while your pilots' search skills may be pretty good with these patrol squadrons, their naval attack torpedo skills are poor, and they don't improve in this area unless you are training them just for naval attack.

**edit**

I will add these aircraft, if set to naval attack using torps, will need to meet certain criteria based on supply, base force/air HQ torpedo devices, and/or command HQ radius. Consequently, you won't see patrol aircraft able to automatically exert a naval attack/torpedo threat from every base they fly from.

So I will be able to change my PBYs to night missions and Naval Attack, set search sector, Naval Search levels around 50%, and based on naval attack skill levels and if the PBYs have radar (or the moonlight is just right), have a chance to launch successful torpedo attacks??

Thanks very much for this Cathartes but i was looking a little more. I was thinking they may do it to base size after a date in 42.

Yes,There are several on these forums who know more about the old planes, but I doubt many of them have sat in as many.

I love the paint schemes on the pre-war jobs. The neutrality patrol star. The yellow wings and all that bare metal. Fate smiled on people who make plastic models when testors invented buffable metallic lacquer.
