I know this is probably a 'no', but will we be able to modify the effects of December 7th Surprise? For instance, be able to check a box in the editor on a unit determining whether it can be "surprised" or not?

Well there is the "surprise" on or off toggle overall. Within that, we've found you can "tweak" the results, by changing high leverage factors like experience.

Hi all,

Any comments on Allied production (apologies if already mentioned)? As in it atill irks me sometimes seeing the Japanese outproduce the US (in particular) on planes. Will Allied production be increased?

Thanks

Aircraft rates will be "adjusted" ... definitely ... in some cases raised in some cases lowered. I think the Air Team are working on the numbers.

Thanks Joe (this also answers my question of the same category at the beggining of this page)!

jwilkerson-Is there a link where I can review details of Allied production in AE? I tried a search, but no gold ring.

Boy, am I'm "pawing the ground" in anticipation of AE's release. Will it be both download & box?

Many thanks, Hugh Browne

Hugh, much of the production discussion is in the Map thread.  You may want to try there.  There is also a bit in the blurb put out back on 7 Dec 07.

Along the same vein, will there be a "day after" starting date? ie December 8th option?

We debated whether the game should start on 8 Dec on 7 Dec ... but the voting came down for 7 Dec (historically the vast bulk of the fighting on the first day of WITP took place on 8 Dec). So in AE, as it is in WITP, the "war" will start on 7 Dec.

Since WITP stock has a Dec 8 campaign scenario, I was hoping that AE would. I like playing that one against the AI. Oh well...

Dili - hopefully the experience the AE team gains will be put to good use for future projects like War in the Med, North Atlantic 86, and WITP II!

Yes WITP engine has much juice in it. It is the only game that i know that has a well developed air, sea, land battle with strategic, operational and even some tactical decisions and that is the levels i like. We know that land has some issues(unfortunately i never saw a game that replicates combat orders and hierarchy well) but it works and air/sea puts every other game to shame.  I hope that Matrix realises that. If they ever want to consider a Mediterranean Mod they can contact me i have made much research about it, specially axis and minor nations.

Will it be possible to transport fuel to a base via air transport - Dakota's etc? Thinking of them carrying fuel in fuel drums etc.......?

Thanks

But that doesn't guarantee that the Arizona, Oklahoma and Utah will be sunk...

It will be possible to transport motor fuel and avGas via transports, as it is now, because this stuff is factored into supply. But no it will still not be possible to air transport "bunker fuel" a.k.a. "fuel" in the game. We had much discussion about adding more flavors of supply, at one point we were talking about over 20 different flavors of supply!!! But we rapidly came to the conclusion (as we did about many things) that this was for WITP_II and not AE.

Colonel, we are running low on fuel for the bombers, what shall we do? We do not have enough for tomorrow's mission.

Sergeant, have the cook prepare bean stew for the support units for lunch and dinner tonight. That should convert enough supply to gas to let us fly the mission tomorrow.

She is in CHS. There was a controversy (still is?) over how to handle her, but in CHS 2.08 she is listed as a CA. The reasoning is that as a CA she makes a viable target (she did absorb several Japanese torpedoes after all), but not quite as high a priority target as the operational BBs.

So I tried to run a couple searches on "release date" but came up empty. Maybe my search skills need work, because I know you've discussed this recently. Any time frame? I'd rather you take your time to polish than rush it out the door, but I'm curious.

Also, how's the work on the AI going?

To my knowledge, Matrix does not announce release dates. IIRC a "target" of "this summer" was included in the 7 Dec 2007 announcement.

As to the AI, we continue to struggle along, the frustrating part is trying to get the AI to do what you want. But I guess in the end AIs always do what THEY want, eh?

SigInt should be available ON THE MAP, not just on the sigint screen. ie. if you scroll over an enemy base on the map that you have some sigint for it should include that info on the screen.

Actually, I think SigInt reports should be embedded inside savegame, so only each legitime owner could seen them... and then, if he wishes, he could export to a text plain file the current SigInt for that turn.

IIRC, SigInt files are generated when you replay the Combat Save n1 save slot to see combat reports, animations, and all those thingies.

Also, talking about allied sigint being underrated, I agree... it should be a kind of selector, like reinforcements schedule: three position for Allied SigInt (Historical: LOTS of information, Reduced: actual implementation, Balanced: let's play a scenario in which both sides have equal cryptologic knowledge and everybody use one time pads).

Second that! I've been in wargaming since the 70s - I have a copy of early Strategy & Tactics board games from that time, beginning with their USN game (a VERY early and VERY generalized war in the Pacific). Been hooked ever since.

Peace,

I think there are at least five long lists, the Air, Naval, Land, Map and General threads, right here!

I know it's been said before that there's no provision to keep track of how successful a particular sub is in sinking ships, but is it possible on the Ships Sunk screen to put "sunk by 21" torpedo by USS xxx" or something like that?
