Hello,
I know this game was released in 2006. It has been improved in some manner? Or this is only a re-release?
How many online players are there? I find only old reviews saying that there are very few players...
The 12 missions campaign is a little limited I think...

I read some pretty bad reviews about this game.

Yesterday I downloaded a demo from the official site; the game isn't bad if you love WWI aircrafts. I have other concerns: when I clicked "Online Play" the demo printed me a warning message: the client version is out of date. It forwarded me on the site, where I must login to access downloads. BUT with the password received with the demo I got a warning message: my profile doesn't have access to downloads!!! I wrote to the support (NOT Matrix support, I mean IMagic support) and by now had no response.
My fear is to find no online opponent at all... so I want to know it before buying the game.

I've heard pretty good things about Warbirds.

Red Baron 3D was one of my all-time favorite flight sims.  Can't help but be interested in a game that gives me a chance to fly a Spad.

The warbirds suite includes the game "dawn of aces", a WWI simulator (but there are few online players). Flyboys is a "clone" of dawn of aces, with 12 single player missions inspired by the moovie. BUT flyboys costs about 30$ (includes 1 month online play, but there are no players at this time), and Dawn of aces 0$ (includes 14 days online play).
And with the DOA package you receive warbirds and a tank game too.

Are there other WWI competer games out there that are worth while?  This one looks like you have to pay a monthly fee to play like Battle Ground Europe.

Warbirds has been around for well over 10 years.  Many improvements and pretty stable.  Graphics are decent, but not cutting edge.  The flipside is that you get really good frame rates.  I haven't played in years.

How many players on average are online playing this in a good evening during prime time? If the community is strong I may buy it but if it is weak, that's my suspicion, then I won't.

I was a beta tester for Confirmed Kill which is Warbirds roots. I've played Warbirds too before but not for many years and I've never actually joined up for a monthly subscription. I remember when it first started up they wanted over $2.00 per hour which was a ridiculous rate. But that's what they charged for MP games back then. I was a subscription member of Air Warrior III for a brief period though. I think a lot of the people from back then play Aces High online now. I didn't care much for that either last time I tried it.

Warbirds is a WW2 sim, Flyboys is a Dawn of Aces clone and a WWI sim.

Previously I posted a link to the official site, where you can view online people.
Flyboys/Dawn of Aces was never more than 2/3 people online :(

Flyboys includes 12 single player missions: I think too few to justify the higher price.
The online arena for DoA and Flyboys is the same...

Another thing: I contacted IMagic support for a problem with my demo account (I got an out of date version, and I can't play online!) and they don't answered me at all. If you read the official forum there are many players complaining about credit card and account problems...

I played Warbirds from 1996-2000, back in it's heyday. Yep, even paid $2/hr and I remember we all thought they were nuts to go to the $29.95/month flat fee, which eventually went even lower. At this time, Dawn of Aces came out, and had huge potential. It would have, IMO, been the ultimate WWI online sim.

Alas, soon after DOA(what an unfortunate acronym for that sim!) was released, the fine folks at ICI(as it was then known) split into two factions, HiTech Creations & Cornered Rat Software. HiTech and Pyro left to create Aces High, and the other competing team became CRS and created WW2OL, which is now known as Battleground Europe.

I eventually left WB and spent 2000-2004 in AH, and joined WW2OL on opening day in 2001(I think) and stayed until 2007.

And yet, nothing will ever replace the fun and excitement created by Warbirds when it was first released. The simple feature of being able to fight with and chat with other real people online in a flight sim was so new and astounding, even without voice chat.

Sheesh, I'm getting old.

Long live Warbirds 1.11r2!

I dont know why they only put 12 missions.Pacific Fighters, and IL-2 are really good games. You get plenty of campaignage, not to mention a quick mission editor and full mission editor feature in the game.Ships and aircraft carriers look awsome.Doesn't get better than that. They should really bring back those titles or make re-makes.Flyboys.Looks cool. But here is a tip for matrix:I know it's suppose to be based on movie, but you can add other WW1 sky battles.Like have a Flyboys campaign and a couple of seperate campaigns of other battles. That would Work.

Just sayin
