And those attacks took 40% of the turn. The rocket unit disbands and everybody in the NVA
21st Div digs in. The turn ends here.

So um.......I have put together an intelligence estimate for the positions of the Allied stuff as well as the VC and NVA stuff.  This link below is CLASSIFIED since it contains the positions of every NLF unit as of the end of the NVA turn 11.

This file is almost 3Meg bytes big so I give you guys the link instead of posting the picture.

Once you have the image loaded in your browser just click on the image for the full-size image.

Allied Turn 11:

The invaders in the tri-border region have been identified as the 21st NVA Regt.  The monsoon ended and coordinated attacks begun.  They went down rather easily.

Elements of the 5th Mechanized and 11th Armored Cav are arriving which will provide some much needed muscle up in I Corps.

Otherwise a quiet turn.  Most of my activity was spent on road security.  I want to keep the border hexes under Allied control to make it easier to detect incursions off the HCM trail.

The VC K4 Bn is going to split into three units and convert hexes and try to blow a
bridge north of Saigon and then disband. I was so excited about blowing the bridge I forgot
to convert the hex to my control:

The VC 514th A Bn is going to split into three units and convert hexes and try to blow a
bridge near Go Cong and maybe chase the river boat and then disband. I actually got to
blow two bridges before I got caught. [Note to Curt: yeah, I forgot about not leaving the
province again and when I finally thought about it I disbanded them immediately before
moving any further. I need to tie a string around my finger or something.]:

The VC 2nd Reg is going to split into two units and convert hexes and assault the
regional forces unit in Chu Lai trying to destroy some of those transport helicopters, and
maybe even overrun one of the airbases there. I got some retreat before combat results
that chased the regional forces dude for awhile before disbanding:

There were other various and sundry converting of hexes and none of them were of
particular import. But if you guys want to see EVERY move by every unit just say so and
I'll put 'em back in here. Here's the results of the attack(s):

According to the equipment manifest the 37MM guns are good only for low altitude
defense. So theoretically the Allies could bomb the trail with B-52's and not get
shot down. I'll have to try that in my game against Ron.

I moved my stuff around converting hexes and disbanding. Surely you guys don't
want to see that kind of stuff. Also, my main force NVA divisions are moving south
on the trail headed for....oh, I donno, maybe An Loc or somewhere.

And the turn ended here.

Emphasis on theoretically. If the Independence Day mothership were a unit in TOAW, the game engine would allow it to be shot down by riflemen.

I've attacked units with high-alt bombers in the past, units that should have no capability against them, and seen my planes mangled. No enemy air intervention in those cases either. Very strange.

Maybe it will work out in this case...

I ran a test using an earlier PBEM turn on my game with Ron. I've already sent him my turn 7 moves so I'm guessing I can do this. I attacked one of those VC recruit hexes with my B-52's and it looks like some of my combat support aircraft joined in there. The only thing shot down was 5 of the B-52's. None of the low altitude planes took a hit at all. And 6 VC Lt. Rifle squads for 5 B-52's isn't really all that ideal a trade off. Clearly something stinks in Denmark.

Allied Turn 13, January 1966 -

Very quiet.  In fact not a single battle to report.  Shelled some NVA border guards just to keep the dust off the guns.

Nothing much of a visual nature happened during the turn so there isn't much to report.  I moved some VC units around converting hexes and immediately disbanded so they wouldn't get killed.  Some more of my NVA divisions moved further south down the trail and that's about it.

And the turn ends here.

Allied Turn 14, Feb 1966

Discovered a VC rocket battalion near Hue. Like human antibodies fighting off a foreign object, nearby units surround and overwhelm the threat. This must have been the enemy unit that has been wreaking so much havoc on my I Corps airbases.

Also came across an embarked NVA battalion off the coast of Quang Nam. I didn't notice in the replay if he had been trying to fight his way ashore, or just got unlucky and caught at sea. Either way it didn't matter... one salvo from a light cruiser took care of things.
