Hi mate. How're you doing?

I'm fine. I could use a week off, though - a couple of weekend trips (like the one to London) just don't add up to a real vacation.

How are you?

Hey T, I bought something yesterday that was manufactured in Denmark. Never in a million years would I have thought it would have been made there.

Dice. I bought a set for use with some miniature rules. I was very pleasantly suprised. I was figuring China for sure.

Things are well here in Florida. The contractor has finished disassembling the old kitchen. The new wiring is done and we are awaiting an inspection. After that he will do the drywalling.

I would much rather buy something made in Europe over China or a number of other countries.

The Patrick O'Brian novels are excellent. Set in the Napoleonic age they follow the careers of Jack Aubrey and Stephen Maturin, usually sailing on the HMS Surprise. The books are written in period language, which takes awhile and a good dictionary to get used to, but are rewarding yarns.

Horatio Hornblower books are good but are a bit to formulaic for me. Sort of like Horatio Alger stories.

Moby Dick is a terrific novel on many levels, again the prose can be difficult for some.

The Killer Angels and Gods and Generals are both worth reading.

The Sharpe's series (Sharpe's Rifles Etc...) are also a fun read even if they seem to be able to load their Napoleonic rifles as quickly as bolt actions .

There are probably more but its late

Thanks, notes taken.

Hi Dixie!

Hi mate. How're you doing?

I'm fine. I could use a week off, though - a couple of weekend trips (like the one to London) just don't add up to a real vacation.

Today is the first full day off I've had in the 13 days I've been here It's back to work again tomorrow as well

I've already had heat exhaustion, I was suffering on the third day. I'm still fairly white though, I've managed to avoid sunburn with plenty of factor 50 sunblock Since then I've been OK. I'm looking forward to getting home where 2 litres of water is a daily intake, not just 30 minutes worth. I have never been anywhere this hot, 50C may only be halfway to boiling, but it's like that most of the day. It's usually above 30 by the time I'm up in the morning and it doesn't drop below that until after I'm back in bed, if at all.
The jets don't like the heat either, the high temperatures cause the fuel to expand whilst it's in the tanks. This has the unfortunate effect of causing the jet to throw the 'excess' fuel onto the dispersal It also limits the amount of fuel we can put into the jets before they can't get off the deck. The engines hold their heat for a lot longer as well, with the result that I've burnt myself several times on hot pipes etx whilst refilling oils.

I've not seen any scorpions or camel spiders yet, but I have seen a few gekkos. Maybe friends of Onime?

Sounds like "fun", Dixie... Wandering around in an oven all day and all night. When you come home again you'll probably get a cold.

Possibly. I'm already finding most of the aircon too cold. Mostly because of sweaty overalls

You can never have too many dice. Also, you can never have too much ammunition.

Take a hair dryer and spend the day blowing it in your face. Also, don't turn it off when you go to sleep. Loads of fun.

Hi Dixie!  Good to see you.  I'm glad you're becomming acclimated to the weather in your "vacation spot".    All of my time stationed in the Middle East was aboard ship at sea, with the exception of a couple of days of liberty.  I love the Navy!
