Does amniotic fluid leave a stain if it gets on a car seat? The bloody consultant did a membrane sweep earlier (pointless) and we now have a pre labour membrane rupture to deal with!

I don't remember. My wife's water broke on the way to the hospital for out first one. That car seat was cloth. I don't remember it leaving a stain.

Is a consultant a doctor or someone else? Is this a UK or European thing? All we ever dealt with were RNs and doctors.

Start reading now, in a couple of days you won't be getting any sleep..............

Just remember to remind him Beatty was a jerk.....

He had his moments of brilliance. His aggressive spirit was excellent. It's a shame he did not seem to be the best communicator and failed to ensure that his staff compensated. A lot of things he gets blamed for were the fault of some genuinely stupid officers under him. The Dogger Bank fiasco is a good case. With loose orders and a follow me fighting style, he really needed to ensure his ships were Captained by people who had common sense and initiative. Not engaging Moltke and failing to spot your own shot despite corrections from Southampton was just criminal stupidity. Regardless of poorly signalled orders, giving up a chase to sink one crippled ship was just supreme idiocy. Keeping a poor Flag Lieutenant was poor judgement and some of his decisions at Jutland stank. He should have briefed the 5th Battle Squadron on how he wanted them to fight, but he was let down by Tiger's bad judgement in not signalling them at the start of the run to the South. The most unforgiveable thing in my view was the fact that he knew the gunnery of the Battle Cruiser Fleet was shocking but did not start to do anything about it until too late. Maybe it was this that made him hold his fire during the closing phase when he should have been taking advantage of the greater range of his 13.5s?

Beatty was a cavalryman at sea, and he wanted to get stuck in at the point of the spear. He wouldn't have been out of place in Nelson's fleet with that "engage the enemy more closely" garbage. The man should have been shot.

However, the Royal Navy had many, many problems as a whole, which Beatty (odious as he was) can't be faulted for.

Very true. I am reminded (again in one of Massie's book) of the captain in the Mediterrian squadron who let his ship ram another one (with horrendous loss of life). They found him not quilty at court martial because he was just following orders. A lot of incompetence made it's way to the top in the RN.

Not that the USN did not or does not have it's problems. Specifically, look at the Honda Point disaster in 1923. The commander of DesRon 11 thought he knew more about navigation than a radio locating system.

Afternoon chaps.

Safely sat in the comfort of my parents' house right now.  Although I'm surrounded by dogs, I've got my two with me, plus my parents have three more BCs  plus my two year old nephew is staying with them at the moment.  There's also a pair of tortoises....

Sounds like the home of a veterinarian. We have 2 dogs and 4 cats, along with a hockey player in our home.

We have 4 cats, a cockateel, turtle, former hockey player and very former wrestler. Oh yeah, 2 horses too but they don't live here.........yet.

When that former hockey player moves out, you should have room for the horses.

No dogs?

When (if) the former hockey player moves out, I get a big (former) bedroom as a board gaming room. Then I'll be able to set up some of my extensive war game collection.

No dogs. That way we can go away for the weekend and leave the animules to their own devices.

If I recall correctly, once the membrane ruptures, the baby will be born within 24 hours. I'd call her doc if I were you.

I'm reading Dreadnought right now, which is where this incident is recounted. The captain went down with the ship as I recall.

I've played no CA recently...unfortunately.

The retention pond across the street is full from Fay. If Hannah drops any large amounts of rain, the circle will fill up with water. At that point my car stays as far up in the driveway as I can put it. It has only 8 inches of ground clearence and it will not float.

Hey Bruce.  It looks like we may share some of the rain from Hannah with you, up here in NC.

Yeah, one more good tropical system full of rain (without the wind, thank you) will likely be the "official" end of the drought in the eastern half of the state.  They are still hurting in the western part, and down along the mountains into SC and GA.

She has not had any contractions. The hormone triggers are not present because it was not time for the waters to break. Now she will have to be induced tomorrow instead of next Tuesday as planned. The membrane sweep consists of the consultant (the equivalent of a US attending physician, I believe) sticking his finger through the cervix and forcing it around in a circle beyond the neck to seperate the membrane from it's surrounding flesh. It is "uncomfortable" according to text books (and bloody hurts according to my wife, especially as all he said he was doing was an internal!). All it has done is to increase the risk of infection and make Josie and Freddie more uncomfortable. We had a late night at the hospital while they checked everything out (an hour's work stretched to four hours as the duty consultant had an emergency c-section to do I think).

Maybe GBL needs a new one, to go with his new arrival

Nice!

As far as NFs go, I prefer the Mosquito

One nice picture for you...

Life with the NHS. I'll bet she used a different phrase to bloody hurts... Hopefully everything will go well when the time comes, remember your most important role now is to be shouted at and told it's all your fault and that you're never going to be allowed anywhere near her ever again
