"Politics and the English Language" is probably my favorite thing by him.

you may be just a whippersnapper, but you begin to show yourself as a whippersnapper with good taste. Have you given Down and Out in Paris and London a shot? This and "Politics" I think would be a body of work that would justify a man's existence. You gotta do the obligatory 1984 and Animal Farm thing, of course, but my man Eric was by far at his best when he waxed philosophical in his unpretentious, observant, non-pedantic way. He had a knack for making observations speak for themselves that I don't think has ever been matched. I read and reread all of his essays. I tried to teach myself to write by his example.

Too bad he had to die so young and was unable to give us his take on the 50s and 60s.

I saw one once in a southern USA minor-league ballpark crappin' can that said, "Players with short bats please stand close to the plate. The next hitter might be barefoot."

Yes, his new film. The English are Utter Bastards

I hear he has two new projects starting up. One features a crusading lesbian ("The Passion of the Dyke") and the other is about a little boy who has a tragic accident ("The Crashing of the Trike").

I assume they are both quality productions?

That's a fine recommendation, Pas. I've read 1984 years ago, but I might have to hunt down Down and Out and "Politics..."

What's the difference between Sir Alex Ferguson and Michael Jackson?

Fergie will still be playing Giggs in August

I feel your pain...litterally! I've had a lower grade version for about two weeks (but I'm still trying to get an appointment with a doctor-gotta love US Government medicine!). You forgot to mention the frequent dizzy spells.Or have you not been so blessed? Either way , I hope that feel better!

It's called "How do I shaft a bunch of people , take all their money, and try (unsuccessfully) to get tax breaks?". Found a puedo-church. Then don't let any poor people join, only the rich and richer.

In the 1940's, or so the story goes, a newspaper add in the LA times ran "How to gain riches, send $5". When someone sent the money , they received a note that basically said "Find a fool and taked their money!". The principal is still in play today!

Only Bog knows who’s really turning the crank there, pal. Ever been to Vegas? It’s just like THX-1138; remission of sin in a jackpot. If humans ate their young, we ‘might’ be better off, but life would be so much less amusing to the Pechanga Tribal Gaming Commission.

Ok, so we whacked Spain in the Fed Cup, pushed them to third; out of position South African's helped there.

Smiling and dialing on the Brazilians as we speak. Looks like the pathetic colonials can play futbol after all, yeah?

And still is... Besides which, the Confed Cup doesn't really count; it's a dress rehearsal for the country that stages the next World Cup to see the best way of getting people in and out of their stadiums...

You were lucky. You was rated below Paraguay.

Hey Osterhaut, haven't seen you around much. How have you been ?

Hopefully we can beat Brazil today, would be nice. That game against Spain was a real shocker. I bet they were overlooking us a bit. I do not think we were supposed to be all of that good.

They were the better team. I'm just glad to see us give them a fight instead of the ankle-grabbing routine we did the first time around.

Yah - right next to the sign that said, "Relievers welcome, especially closers. Shortstops please ask for assistance, unless completing the double play."
