The NW Bug, or more specifically the National Will Bug is where a city that is ungarrisoned doesn't change the National Will of the side that captures it but does give NW points to the owing side if they liberate it back into their control.

It makes a shambles of getting behind the enemy's line and taking cities you get no credit for taking while any he manages to take back he is given credit for.

Good Hunting.

It was bad enough that combined with the bug that you can't just attack a city in a PBEM without the turn possibly crashing we decided to end the game as a draw.

Good Hunting.

Would be great to see you try this strategy with the new patch.

The strategy of winning the war without fighting battles will work everytime the Confederates keep large armies in place. They can't be everywhere at once. Once there is a breach in the outer crust the Confederacy is on borrowed time.

The long term is absolutely in the Union's favor. The Confederacy has a manpower problem the Union doesn't. The Confederacy is cash strapped the Union isn't.

The Confederacy has to take advantage of that situation early before the Union can mobilize all that manpower.

I would hope that finally the patch is working and that the game plays as intended. We have no plans to play the game anytime soon.

If/when we play it again I'll do another DAR.

Good Hunting.

My opponent and I will more than likely start up An UnCivil War part 2 after the first of the year. He just lost his wife to cancer. She was the 6th person, that was very close to me, that has died this year. Not to mention other "issues" that have been along for the ride this year. Having said all that, I am needing some time off as well. I personally can't wait for 2009 to be over.

We are both eager to give the new patch a run through and see how the game does now.

The strategies may well change with the PBEM bugs fixed.

Good Hunting.

I'm sorry to read about the tough time you've been going through.

It would be great to have another AAR -- might breathe some life into this old forum!

That was a very good read, MR. Thanks for sharing your battle with us. I'm using a similar strategy in my first real game of FOF against the AI. The difference is that I'm not capturing his cities down south, just plundering them in order to destroy the southern economy. Not sure if that's a brilliant strategy or foolish, but my intention is to wreak economic havoc on the South combined with a full blockade, and see if that will weaken it's ability to fight in the field. Dunno if that's going to work, but I guess I'll find out.

I talked with my gaming buddy tonight. He's getting ready to sell the house. Says at the moment he's not in the mood to game. With the first set of holidays coming up without his wife I can imagine we won't start anytime soon after that either. Maybe if we are lucky he'll regain some normalcy back in his life during the spring.

I'm amazed that people still read this old thread. I'm glad that it is still a good read after all this time.

Good Hunting.
