Itīs been 12 hours ago that those nukes destroyed my base on Canton Island but Iīm still pissed off. And even though we have had a real success this turn, my mood doesnīt change... AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 04/19/42 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TF 38 troops unloading over beach at Medan, 20,45 Japanese ground losses: 65 casualties reported -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Coastal Guns at Canton Island, 98,99, firing at TF 1034 TF 1034 troops unloading over beach at Canton Island, 98,99 4 Coastal gun shots fired in defense. Allied ground losses: 191 casualties reported as you can see, the enemy TFs are still unloading. Once again, IMO this is a very poorly performed atoll assault, but the nukes have saved Millerīs day... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Coastal Guns at Canton Island, 98,99, firing at TF 1036 TF 1036 troops unloading over beach at Canton Island, 98,99 28 Coastal gun shots fired in defense. Allied Ships AP President Monroe AP Van Cloon DD Alden AP Empire Pride Allied ground losses: 313 casualties reported -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Coastal Guns at Canton Island, 98,99, firing at TF 1041 TF 1041 troops unloading over beach at Canton Island, 98,99 16 Coastal gun shots fired in defense. Allied Ships AP President Garfield, Shell hits 1 MSW Bobolink, Shell hits 1 AP President Polk Allied ground losses: 303 casualties reported -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Coastal Guns at Canton Island, 98,99, firing at TF 1042 TF 1042 troops unloading over beach at Canton Island, 98,99 14 Coastal gun shots fired in defense. Allied Ships MSW Robin CL Concord Allied ground losses: 361 casualties reported itīs just like as if those troops would land at an empty base... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sub attack near Canton Island at 98,99 Japanese Ships SS I-29 Allied Ships AK West Nilus MSW Nipigon DD Schley DD Brooks DD Hatfield DD Kane AP Wanganella AP Meigs 6 torps missed West Nilus... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sub attack near Palmyra at 106,85 Japanese Ships SS I-175 Allied Ships CV Saratoga, Torpedo hits 2, on fire, heavy damage DD McCall Saratoga took two torps from my torpedo bombers and she was going directly to Palmyra where I-175 was waiting for the heavily damaged carrier. Miller now pays for not having an adequate escort and two out of the four fired torps slammed into the doomed ship! Saratoga must have been finished at this point! BANZAI! BANZAI! BANZAI! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Naval bombardment of Canton Island, at 98,99 Allied Ships DD Le Triomphant CL Mauritius CL Hobart CL Perth CL Achilles CL Leander CA Cornwall CA Dorsetshire CA Australia Japanese ground losses: 120 casualties reported Guns lost 1 Airbase hits 2 Runway hits 14 Port hits 1 Port supply hits 12 lol! No more nuke? No wonder, all my support troops are already finished! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Coastal Guns at Canton Island, 98,99, firing at TF 1034 TF 1034 troops unloading over beach at Canton Island, 98,99 14 Coastal gun shots fired in defense. Allied Ships DD King Allied ground losses: 54 casualties reported -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Coastal Guns at Canton Island, 98,99, firing at TF 1036 TF 1036 troops unloading over beach at Canton Island, 98,99 Allied ground losses: 291 casualties reported -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Coastal Guns at Canton Island, 98,99, firing at TF 1041 TF 1041 troops unloading over beach at Canton Island, 98,99 10 Coastal gun shots fired in defense. Canīt believe that Miller again brought far too few ships for his troops unloading at an atoll... The Midway landing and his nuke bombardments make him pretty confident. And itīs certified to be confident, canīt see much hope for my troops at Canton... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TF 1058 encounters mine field at Palmyra (106,85) Allied Ships AO Tippecanoe, Mine hits 1, on fire hopefully the ship is full of fuel, could be in trouble then... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sub attack near Palmyra at 106,85 Japanese Ships SS I-175 Allied Ships CV Saratoga, Torpedo hits 2, on fire, heavy damage DD McCall I-175 attacks again with a salvo of four torps and the US carrier is again stricken by two torpedoes which cause the carrier to sink with all hands down. The second US fleet carrier of the war is confirmed SUNK! And Lexington is limping heavily damaged back to Palmyra also and she was the one that took three torpedoes during the Japanese air attacks, so I had given Saratoga more chances to survive... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sub attack near Canton Island at 98,99 Japanese Ships SS I-29, hits 8, on fire Allied Ships AK Kentuckian, Torpedo hits 2, on fire, heavy damage AK Californian MSW Ungava MSW Bellechasse DD Sands DD Lawrence AK Sage Brush we sink a big AK but in return I-29 takes heavy damage from the escorting MSW with an ASW value of 4. Will move the sub out of the hex, there will be a lot of enemy ships coming in next turn as all those ships from the bombardment TFs are heading towards Palmyra to rearm and refuel and probably RENUKE Canton... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ground combat at Medan Japanese Bombardment attack Attacking force 3168 troops, 17 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 140 Defending force 3241 troops, 8 guns, 3 vehicles, Assault Value = 72 Allied ground losses: 5 casualties reported -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ground combat at Myitkyina Japanese Bombardment attack Attacking force 7965 troops, 277 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 2983 Defending force 47566 troops, 383 guns, 251 vehicles, Assault Value = 1070 Allied ground losses: 33 casualties reported Guns lost 2 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ground combat at Canton Island Japanese Bombardment attack Attacking force 9525 troops, 60 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 325 Defending force 44759 troops, 493 guns, 176 vehicles, Assault Value = 930 Allied ground losses: 47 casualties reported Guns lost 2 Vehicles lost 1 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ground combat at Canton Island Allied Shock attack Attacking force 41378 troops, 472 guns, 169 vehicles, Assault Value = 924 Defending force 18869 troops, 74 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 325 Allied max assault: 1008 - adjusted assault: 385 Japanese max defense: 278 - adjusted defense: 403 Allied assault odds: 0 to 1 (fort level 8) Japanese ground losses: 472 casualties reported Guns lost 9 Allied ground losses: 2495 casualties reported Guns lost 85 Vehicles lost 19 this time the Allied attackers get a bloody nose but I doubt the base will hold. Miller has brought no dedicated combat eng units so the forts seem to be his main problem at the moment. Still, the three divisions will be too much for the defenders I guess. We are now trying to reinforce the island asap with all possibilities we have. Once again Miller came too early with too much force. We are building up both Pago Pago and Baker but both airfields are only level 2 at the moment, so there wonīt be any air support for Canton. The plan was to have those three bases support each other when the Allied attack goes in, but just like at Midway, the Allied attacked too early for our defense. And still, when I concentrate on my main tactic to inflict serious losses on the attacker then I have to be satisfied. We didnīt wreck havoc on the invasion, but we have one US fleet carrier confirmed sunk and another one limping back seriously damaged and in danger of sinking also. Thereīs only one US CV left operational at the moment so I just have to be satisfied. The downside is that if Canton falls, then my positions in the South Pacific are impossible to hold and have to be abandoned. With only the British carriers and one US carrier in the Pacific, I am now sure that Miller wonīt attack into the area around Baker, nor at Wake. But hey, I also was sure not to see him attacking when he lost Enterprise near Wake. We will see... The loss of Saratoga resulted in quite high air losses today also...
