Allied ground losses:
590 casualties reported

if I look on the landings yesterday then in total the Allied units suffered quite some disablements and due to the fact that they didn´t unload in one turn we would have had a nice chance to inflict some more casualties if our adjusted av wouldn´t have been that bad and if the Allied attack wouldn´t have been that devastating to our troops sitting behind forts like this on an atoll... I know, level 9 forts are total phantasy but it´s the same as having 110.000 troops in total from both sides on this small spot... a 0:1 yesterday and another shock attack today would have made my day...

today my bombers from Baker island decided to attack the invasion TFs and as mentiond yesterday, it seems there´s no carrier support around... This is our main strike of the day and we achieve some easy kills for nearly no loss... another Omaha class CL is heavily hit today, three torps could be enough to sink the light cruiser...

and that´s it for today... if you don´t have carriers around that launch massive strikes then hurting an invasion with land based bombers only is near impossible if there isn´t one fat target like a couple of CVs or BBs that get attacked by massive strikes.

what can I say... if you think about the fact that I had nearly 500 av behind level 9 forts, massive supply and probably 7 or 8 dozen CD guns than it was just like a cakewalk for the Allied... I have seen 500 av beating up bigger invasions than this one before so the die rolls must have been pretty much one sided. Everything was done after the first shock attack... we lose an unimportant atoll 5000 miles away from the real important areas... I´m not happy with the damage we´ve inflicted though...

KB was/is in the area around Truk as this is an area of more importance. Bringing it down to Canton would have taken too long, even if I would have decided to send it out three or four days ago. And as you know, fuel is in very short supply so a full speed run could mean I would use up more fuel than I can store in a month.

Canton was lost on the first day of the Allied attack as it was devastating. All the CD guns, forts, preparation and supply helped just nothing. When looking at what we´ve spotted in the combat report and the replay, then I guess there is not much in terms of APs around Canton, guess the PM invasion really took a toll on the Allied APs. From what it looks like, in the Canton Island invasion, there were mostly AKs, backed up with LSTs. And AKs should still be hundreds around, while APs are only some 5 or 6 dozens left. Rough guess, could be more, doubt it could be fewer.

thats something i find very stuppid in this game..this allied invasion fleets with "warp engine". now, the japanese have the best long range recon planes of the war but most of the time, they spot a allied landing fleet when its just 1-2 hexes away from the destination. the same happend to me in my game vs. garry...his invasion forces popped up right 1 hex away from baker island although nearly 40 emilys were flying naval search in the area.

you have little to no time to react as the japanese player.

that´s how it is, but IMO it´s one of the things that isn´t reall off. I even think we spot more than in real life. I had 4 chutais (36 ac) of Emilies on Baker Island set to 18 hexes nav search. Well, if you think about the area they have to cover when a hex is 60 miles big and you sent them out in a circle with 360° then that´s quite a lot of ocean... I have spotted the enemy one day before the invasion has gone in, but not the whole fleet. That´s the only thing that seems a bit strange to me. We spotted two TFs of a couple of ships each, while there were probably a dozen with big surface combat TFs and amphibious TFs of probably 100 ships each.

I had no Alfs or Jakes on Canton as they would have just been bombed by the Allied 4Es. If you have a daitai of Alfs or Jakes on an island you usually sight such big armadas coming in as soon as they are in range, means at 6 or 7 hexes.

And there´s no difference between Allied or Japanese nav search. At least none I have experienced or heard of.

from what i heard about AE, you can define the sector of naval search operation. it means, you dont need to do a 360 degree search from lets say tawara. you can concentrate all search planes into E-NE-SE. maybe that increases the chances to spot enemy TFs earlier.

the six MSW and the bigger TF that was going to PM have been sighted yesterday heading back to Aussie land again, so I´ve moved in 54 torp bombers to Gili Gili, hoping to get a shot at the bigger TF with AKs in (hopefully uncapped). Well, we didn´t attack the bigger TF and launched one strike on the MSW, killing four of them... the bombers were sent back out of range of the 4Es at Cooktown...

Aircraft Attacking:
4 x Barracuda bombing at 10000 feet

wow... after seeing the Barracudas from PM being set on nav/airfield attack daily, coming in with a more or less "weak" (in numbers) Thunderbolt escort I decided that it is time to intervene.

This had two reasons:

a) I wanted to know if the Tony really performs better than the Tojo, so I´ve thought setting 250 Tonies from Rabaul to LRCAP Gasmata would be a good idea to test them against an escort of 25 or so Thunderbolts. Well, needless to say that I was shocked to see an escort of 94!!! Thunderbolts. One of the idiotic "features" of the game. No matter how many fighters you set on escort, if there is no Cap at the target, the game decides how many really fly and that can be FAR less. As soon as there is Cap over the target, usuall ALL fighters set to escort actually fly. So this meant in this case that (probably) 4 squadrons of Thunderbolts were set to escort and 94 actually flew (out of 96). We were coming in at 20.000ft, the enemy fighters at 13.000ft. Do you think we would have bounced them? No... We only engaged them but in no time the Tony really proved to be a far better dogfighter than the totally obsolete Tojo (in Nikmod). One Thunderbolt after another was shot down in no time, the better maneuver rating of the Tony (compared to the Tojo) enabled us to fire from behind at the Thuds and with the higher gun value of 10, many of the bursts actually resulted in kills. If the game wouldn´t have gone crazy at some point, ignoring physics completely, then we would have achieved an insane kill rate I guess. BUT, at some point we just got into 7 or 8 phases when the enemy fighters were bouncing us. How that is possible when my fighters come in 7.000 ft higher than the enemy escorts is beyond me but that´s how the game works. 20 or so of the kills were achieved during the Allied bounce phases.

b) if my new fighters prove to be competitive then this will keep the enemy honest as he then can´t just attack everything he wants. I won´t end up in 5 hexes range of enemy bases with my airforce as this would just draw me into an attrition war against Corsairs, Spits, Warhawks, etc. but everything that is 6 or more hexes away from an Allied base can be defended if we wish to as we surely can go into an attrition war against the Thunderbolt and the Lightning as long as the enemy only gets 30 or 35 of each every month. This could change when the enemy will get 75 P38-J each month.

The Tonies even managed to fight their way through to the bombers and took 20 of them down. I guess this also hurts because those higher exp British pilots will be replaced by "green" pilots in the mid 50s. At least I guess they had quite a nice exp due to their excellent performanc when they attacked my shipping. One of our Tony sentais was hit hard, losing 8 high exp pilots and will be flown out for training, the sentai can immedietely be replaced with a new one that has finished training. In total we´ve lost 13 pilots which means that really a lot survived today, either going down over Gasmata or crashing back at Rabaul. This attack really is a morale boost for me as it shows me that if we continue to try to hurt the enemy, with max efforts we can still do that. Setting 7 high exp Tony sentais (some 250 fighters) on LRCAP is definetely a max effort. The enemy nearly lost a two month replacement rate of Thunderbolts and that´s surely not nice, also in this case, the pilots will probably replaced with new ones that are less experienced. Really a nice engagment, I don´t want to think about how it could have looked like if the enemy wouldn´t have got the bounce (over our base, 360 miles away from friendly territory and when flying 7.000ft below us), or if we would have won the jackpot of bouncing the enemy. All in all, an absolutely succesful day.

will order the first deliberate attack soon and I guess I will be shocked about the losses we will take. With 2600+ av behind surely level 9 forts and with unlimited supply I´m not sure that we will ever be able to take the base as our losses will be over 10.000 every time we attack and if (BIG IF) we are able to take down a fort, then the super duper Allied we build forts in no time engineers will bring it back to level 9 before we can take it down to level 7. Our only plus here are our tanks, I hope they can hurt the enemy.

more than half of our remaining units were wiped out... this is the third day of the invasion. We not just lost the base, we are wiped out within one week at max. And now the idiotic thing of the day: we moved out fragments of all units, ALL of them either vanished or turned into ghosts... AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have the strange feeling that as soon as you have your first ghost unit somewhere it is not possible for you to rebuild ANY of your fragments anymore. And this just sucks. Why? Because when I look at the Russian divisions that had fragments flown out from Borzya, at least 5 of them are rebuilding at Irkutsk now. And their av is going up, as I can see during the replay of my bombardments... thanks a lot... So I can´t rebuild my units... what does that mean? This means that I will run out of base forces as soon as the enemy arrives in the area Saipan or further into the SRA. In this case I have not just lost a big base force, but also two smaller ones and a full CD unit. Well done... Running out of base forces means running out of bases where I can park aircraft. I get something like three dozen small base forces from now on until the end of the war, means something like 1000 air support, enough to stack 250 ac into four bases. That´s great. None of the base forces I will get will be one of the bigger ones with lots of AA and CD guns and 140 air support.

Sorry, but this game is so borked it just sucks. At the moment I have surely something like two dozen ghost units on the map. Just a prove of very poor data base programming... once again...

from what i heard about AE, you can define the sector of naval search operation. it means, you dont need to do a 360 degree search from lets say tawara. you can concentrate all search planes into E-NE-SE. maybe that increases the chances to spot enemy TFs earlier.

it surely will be an improvement...

ramped up the production to something like 630. I´m producing something like 1000 fighters of three different types at the moment. Tony, A6M3a and OscarII.

after the fall of Canton Island, the next expected targets of an Allied offensive in the region South of Kwajalein are of course Baker Island, Apamama, Tarawa and Makin. As Tarawa has the biggest airfield, I would expect this to be the next Allied operation. Not as easy as Canton Island as Tarawa is in range of several of my airfields and I can field hundreds of Tonies in this area to take on the CV based Hellcats. Could be a tough fight if I spot the enemy early enough as I need two or three days to bring the Navy into position... I doubt that Miller would try to grab one of the atolls in the Tarawa area without massive CV support. Massive means at least one (or several) TFs to field 450 cv based ac per hex.

Sasebo 5th SNLF Wiped Out at Canton Island by attrition!!! ghost

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

125th IJN Base Force Wiped Out at Canton Island by attrition!!! ghost

it took the Allied not even a week to completely wipe out everything that was on Canton Island. Level 9 forts, 500av, 25.000 supplies, two attacks and the base was lost, three more days and all 30.000 defenders wiped out. This all wouldn´t be that severe if the damned bugged database wouldn´t turn all my fragments either into ghosts or vanishing LCUs. Seems to hit only me though as the half dozen divisions that Miller moved out from Borzya are rebuilding like wild. Insane how fast they grow in strange again...

After I have lost the next half dozen atolls I will run out of base forces as I have no chance to rebuild a single unit, even if I get loads of troops out. As soon as the parent dies, the f*cking database kills all my units. Don´t have to tell you how severe it is to completely lose a big base force or the big CD units.

IT SUCKS!!!!

As Terje asked for the Tony production, I took a screenshot of my major aircraft production. As you can see, our fighter production focuses nearly completely on the Tony (for the IJAAF) with only some Oscar IIs to have them in the pool if we need long range escorts. The A6M3 will switch over to the A6M5 in September and I plan to upgrade my CV based fighters asap, no Zeke will go into land based daitais as long as the CV bases daitais haven´t upgraded. I´m not sure if I will ever upgrade my IJNAF land based fighters to the Zeke as we would lose the range of the A6M3 (11 hexes compared to 6 of the Zeke) and the Zeke doesn´t look that better than the Zero anyway. It get´s one point more armament and one point of armor, bit faster but less maneuverable. As long as I can afford it, the IJAAF will be mainly tasked to defend my bases while the long ranged IJNAF Zeroes will provide escorts for the IJNAF bombers. When it turns out to be for no gain to still use the Zeroes or if we need more point defense fighters then hopefully we will be in early 44 already, which would mean that we can upgrade the IJNAF fighters to Jacks (range 6) and Georges (range 4). By the end of this year we will also have nearly all our Betties upgraded to the Frances which should result in fewer losses as the Frances is far faster than the Betty, it gets an armor point and has slightly higher durability.

The next big step of aircraft production (and probably the most important aircraft of the war for the Japanese) will be the Frank, but this fighter is still at least 10 months out (if we are lucky with R&D, otherwise longer). Nearly all our IJAAF fighters were upgraded to the Tony already and in a month we will produce considerable less aircraft. Guess I will switch 200 over to Frank R&D as soon as we have 250-300 in the pool. We aren´t producing a single Tojo anymore but have 1000+ in the pool which we could use for downgrading shot up Tony sentais if the Tony pool would get low.

When looking at the production numbers of real life and what we have produced so far than we are still far from what was built historically, of course we don´t have to produce any training aircraft and aren´t producing any obsolete aircraft.

a bomber shot down? Wow, a hundred AA guns managed to take down a low flying bomber... nice loss rate though. 0.56% against a heavily defended target... could be worse, yesterday it was 0.0%...

Allied aircraft losses
P-40N Warhawk: 1 destroyed, 8 damaged
I-16 Type 24: 6 damaged
MiG-3: 1 destroyed, 4 damaged

now that was funny... prove of the mighty bounce. The first incoming JAPANESE chutai/daitai/sentai is nearly always bounced (not true for the Allied squadrons of course) no matter what alt you set it. So if you are lucky or plan it accordingly, you try to have a chutai as your first incoming formation as this means only 12 of your aircraft are bounced on and on. In this case we only had ONE sentai and it got bounced and bounced and bounced and so on... being bounced endlessly means you get shot up while achieving nothing. The incoming Tony sentai was my second best fighter squadron on the map with an exp level of 87! It was set to 30.000 ft while knowing that altitude doesn´t matter anyway in WITP. Only the magic Allied radar is what really matters. And I´m not even sure if the Russian have radar at this date, perhaps it´s just the hardcoded way of the Allied have to get the bounce thing...

8 Tonies of this sentai are shot down, losing 7 pilots for one kill... lol, mighty bounce... every single defending fighter squadron bounced us...

follow on strike, only the I-16 were left, the other squadrons turned back due to low morale...

27 casualties reported
Guns lost 1

Airbase hits 14
Airbase supply hits 5
Runway hits 45

Aircraft Attacking:
14 x Ki-49 Helen bombing at 11000 feet

then 163 high exp Helens drop their load from medium alt, at normal range on a target that has been reconned for months... they achieve whopping 45 hits on the airfield... destroying some fighters in nice but the strike was flown to take out the bombers...

thank god we were able to take down a fort level. Our adjusted av still looks horrible but at least the enemy´s adjusted av isn´t trippled anymore. Still a high av and a lot of damage done for Allied troops without supply... the penalties for having no supply are just too low, the designers obviouls thought that fighting without supply was possible which obviously wasn´t. Something everyone should know if he ever read a book other than Battlestar Galactica...

more of the same BS, our AA rgts suffered over 1000 casualties alone this turn for taking down 2 bombers today. 2? Wow, 2 out of 323. Op losses? Non existend. Loss rate 0.62% against 6 AA rgts...

wonder what the Allied bomber pilots were drinking when they reported heavy AA fire from Japanese merchants that were under attack in the Birmarck sea. Heavy AA fire from Japanese armed merchants? LOL

Aircraft Attacking:

LOL again... I´ve ordered something like 150 Betties to attack the staging base of the enemy 4Es and we see 45 going in achieving nothing, not even from 6000ft. 45 Betties is the equivalent of two B-24 when it comes down to hits on an airfield. 4 B-24 are destroyed on the ground for two Betties lost to ops. Nanomea atoll is a level 4 airfield and with 150+ B-24 coming from there I thought we would only encounter "meager" Cap but was surprised to see no Cap at all. And I was even more surprised to see NO FLAK at all. Lol, what kind of base set up is this for a frontline base that was built up to max over a month ago? I expected to lose something like two dozen Betties to flak as I wanted to do max damage from low alt and seriously, with Allied Nikmod flak it doesn´t matter anyway if you go in at 6.000ft or 16.00ft, it´s always uber so better to go in at 6.000ft to at least try to so some damage - which we didn´t anyway... absolutely useless strike...

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 08/09/43

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TF 1042 encounters mine field at Woodlark Island (59,94)

Allied Ships
SS S-27, Mine hits 1, on fire

another Allied sub that hits a Type 93 mine, another time the sub stays fully operational... am I the only one that thinks that a sub should be in real trouble after hitting a mine. In WITP you have Allied subs hitting your mines in your base hexes and if you´re unlucky, the same sub puts three torps into one of your CVs then... sub hitting a mine and being able to submerge = stupid?

Miller has to notice that those bombardments do nothing... but I guess they are also not costing him anything. When the TF hasn´t to move, it won´t accumulate sys damage at all...

oh boy, looks like we´ve been lucky here... I was stupid enough to move my Zeroes to Tarawa and set them on 90% Cap, which resulted in 55% in the air. Lucky because most of the enemy strike failed to locate the target (got two messages of B-24 failing to locate the target). 49 bombers at 12.000ft with reduced bomb load (coming from a level 4 airfield) are still enough to kill nearly the same number of fighters on the ground than bombers lost in the air. A full strike would have killed something like 80 aircraft on the ground for 25 bombers lost. I should be smart enough to know that it doesn´t make sense to put up Cap when I don´t have to... stupid me...

Miller has moved out troops from Wyndham and three hexes off the base they are attacked by my bombers coming from North of Timor. Our 80+ Zero escorts prove to be just targets but the bombers all get through. We still suffer a 1:6 kill rate with high exp fighter pilots and that´s not good at all for our future planning. Looks like the Zero is absolutely outdated already, no matter if flown by veterans or not. Guess 4 of the AKs will sink, recon still reports something like a dozen AKs at Wyndham, wonder if they will move out tomorrow also. I should have limited my bomber range as it would be better to first spot enemy TFs moving in or out of Wyndham and then decide what to do. With Derby, Broome and Darwin fully built up with enough aviation support, we would have enough time to react. Anyway, two Zero daitai in need of two months training but also some damage done. Have sortied our carriers in this region and have flown bombers to Broome to attack tomorrow when the TFs are further away from Wyndham so we expect less LRCAP (if any). Half of the kills went to the Corsairs, the others were achieved by the Lightnings...

The enemy is moving West, we also have some surface combat TFs at Broome. Pretty much obsolete and old DDs and some PGs. Moved them in when I thought I would have to deal with incoming barge convoys from Perth.

Defeated Allied Units Retreating!

Miller tried to move a regiment of an Australian division North coming from Alice Springs but I´ve place two divisions on the road to block any Allied attempt to blocade the railline from Darwin to my troops in the Townsville area and to keep the supply flowing from Darwin to Chartertowers. Looks like we´ve been lucky to even defeat a single rgt with two full divisions as our adjusted av once again is ridicoulos for a reason I don´t know. Yes, they were fully supplied...

Are you making complain about the wonderful performances of japanese fighters?

nah, I´m not complaining about the performance of Japanese fighters, I actually think that they are too good when the pilots of both sides are equal and there are no other factors involved.

What is wrong in WITP as it is, is the uber radar and bounce effects. This probably goes for both sides as soon as the Japanese have total radar coverage also (sometime in late 44 ). The bounce is woth something like 25 exp points which means a squadron (no matter which side) with 70 exp that gets the bounce owns a squadron with 95 exp. Just too powerful. But not even that is a problem as the bounce phase usually has to end at some point (if equally or nearly equally performing aircraft are involved). Not so in WIPT. If there´s enough radar, there´s also the never ending bounce. Usually an Allied bounce as the Japanese won´t get radar until it is far too late. But from my limited experience of mid 44 onwards, also Japanese radar is too powerful as it produces the same sh*tty results as Allied radar. In both cases you get results as if you would have modern AWACs in the air...

Aircraft Attacking:

Looks like the Allied want to annoy me... Miller moved his Chinese and US bombers to Uglahamensk and ordered a strike against an oil site on Japan. The AA rgt at Niigata achieved nothing. 4 oil hits means 24! oil points destroyed. 24 out of 100. 26 Allied bombers take out 24% of this oil site for no loss. The more those Allied strikes annoy me, the more my airforce will be strenghtened in Manchuko and I will start a full air campaign against every single airfield there again...

nearly 400 assault points have been brought out on the AKs, that´s good for me... The 1 USMC and 2 USMC div vanished from the combat replay so I´m pretty sure they are both at Alice Springs now (or at least most of those units). Brought out with transports out of range... boy oh boy... but Wyndham will fall and it will be a BIG success. Makes the operation that started months ago a full success with reclaiming Timor, destroying or heavily damaging the Allied Navy near Darwin and taking out the whole Australian North coast.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 08/11/43

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Night Time Surface Combat at 23,84

Japanese Ships
PG Takunan Maru #3
PG Takunan Maru #10
PG Tamo Maru #6
PG Tamo Maru #7, Shell hits 2, on fire

Allied Ships
AK Empire Puma, Shell hits 7, on fire

Allied ground losses:
63 casualties reported

Miller has divided his fleeing AKs from Wyndham into single ship TFs. There aren´t that many of them so I don´t have a problem with that. I would have if two dozen single ship TFs would move towards Perth now as the game engine can´t handle that at all. The PGs are obviously not suited to take on armed merchants. 7x4.7 inch hits on a big AK doesn´t do any serious damage but the PG is hit hard by two 4 inch shells in return...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Night Time Surface Combat at 23,83

Japanese Ships
DD Kuri
DD Tsuga
DD Hasu

Allied Ships
AK Empire Tarpon, Shell hits 11, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage

Allied ground losses:
107 casualties reported
Guns lost 2

three obsolete DDs that never upgrade (they don´t even have DCs) were also sent to Broome to deal with the barges. The barges turned back to Perth, now the DDs can fight the Allied AKs fleeing from Wyndham. 11 shell hits and a torp (the DDs used up all their torps) should finish the AK...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Night Time Surface Combat at 23,83

Japanese Ships
DD Kuri
DD Tsuga
DD Hasu

Allied Ships
AK Empire Seal, Shell hits 8, on fire

Allied ground losses:

looks like we positioned our surface combat TF quite well as one after another AK is engaged. But the 4.7 inch guns are useles...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Night Time Surface Combat at 23,83

Japanese Ships
DD Kuri
DD Tsuga, Shell hits 2
DD Hasu, Shell hits 1, on fire

Allied Ships
AK Empire Oryx, Shell hits 14, on fire

Allied ground losses:
63 casualties reported

in this case, the enemy AK was shooting back and this is not FOW. Both DDs were hit and damaged... not even 14 4.7 inch hits can heavily damage a big AK. Is this right? Should a merchant sustain so many hits from such a calibre?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Night Time Surface Combat at 23,83

Japanese Ships
DD Kuri
DD Tsuga
DD Hasu, on fire

Allied Ships
AK Empire Voice, Shell hits 10, on fire

out of the 5 AKs that were attacked only one seems to be in danger of sinking (the one that was torpedoed). All the other ones were shot up with 4.7 DP guns but don´t show any real damage...

now the single AKs are target of my IJAAF bombers from Broome. Being already damaged, they have no chance and multiple bomb hits sink them one after another, taking the troops with them... better to fight and die at Wyndham than to die on a sinking AK...

I really get pissed off at some point... how many of those damned engineer rgts should I use here? 200? Hundreds of combat engineers have not been able to at least take one fort down in two attacks. And my troops get shredded. When looking at the replay then I´m sure I´m only inflicting damage on the HQ units that probably are in the lead of the enemy troop stack. The inf units don´t seem to take any damage. Needless to say that my divisions get shredded. Three of them this turn...

Wyndham is 7 hexes from Darwin and 6 hexes from Derby so putting up LRCAP wouldn´t have any effect other than suffering half a dozen high exp Navy pilots lost to ops the first turn. And I´m not even sure I would engage enemy transports because the game shouldn´t even send them there as Wyndham is out of range for the C-46 from Alice Springs. Perhaps it would be the same as trying to fight ghost LCUs. Kind of ghost transports that magically have their range increased by 5...

love this bugged masterpiece of programming...

this isn´t as much an issue as the broken database though...

What about using low exp pilots? Any unrestricted low exp squadrons that could make it there?

I just found that when I LRCAP a place where transports are flying, those transports get shot to bits right away, and withina turn or two, they won't fly into the base anymore becasue of low morale and high fatigue.

Plus, do it for a turn or two, and you force your opponent to adjust and think of something different ... sort of "oh crap, I can't do that anymore", and even if you do it for a turn or two, it might have the effect of stopping it for a lengthy amount of time because the opponent might be afraid.

Jus a suggestion... might be worth a few airframes to see what effect it has. I try thinking of it in the long term too, so you lose a few airframes/pilots... but perhaps this implants a thought that carries throughout the rest of the war... "I can't evac/supply troops in forward bases with my cargo planes unless I control the air over the destination"... so the opponent either does not fly cargo into bases that he doesn't control the air... or... he LRCAP/Sweeps those bases with his planes first, to make sure he can send in the donkeys er C47's. I dunno, trying to think long term... you might lose a little here, but he might lose a lot later wtih sweeps/LRCAPs over bases that you aren't contending with your aircraft... and plus, aircraft used in sweeps/lrcaps over bases that you don't have any fighters over means those aircraft aren't used at those places where your fighters are at.

Dunno tho what it's worth though, something you have to decide upon... that's why I love this game!

I don´t have any low experienced Zero squadrons where it wouldn´t be horrible to lose the pilots. But I will give it a try with one daitai next turn. The problem is that in Nikmod you don´t knock down the transports, you nearly get NO kills.

I´ve tried to LRCAP Wyndham the last two turns (already a week in front of the AAR) but without even encountering the enemy transports. I still noticed the reduction of troops and av that is 100% not due starvation or my bombardments. The 2USMC div is already moved out and the movement of the 1USMC div is in progress and can be clearly seen in the combat replay when the LCU bombardment screen shows a nearly non existing 1USMC div anymore.

Great! Means that there are not only transports used that don´t have the range, they also can´t be intercepted. I´m sick of complaining about the deficiencies of the game, I once complained about losing three divs in one day due to the LCU vanish bug and wanted a redo of a totally unimportant turn and my opponenet just told me this can be seen as deserting units. Lol, I first thought it would be a joke... it wasn´t... the PBEM ended a turn later...

we had a rather long discussion about the "using transports that can´t reach the target feature" and Miller agreed at some point not to use more than two squadrons. Well, I can´t check it nor do I think someone should use even a single aircraft that gives you an advantage due to a bug but when I look at the quickly decreasing number of Allied troops at Wyndham then I wonder what those "two" squadrons can lift out in one day. Guess when Wyndham falls he will have been able to move out at least three divisions with this trick.

Wyndham will fall, it will be a big victory for the Japanese and if the ground war goes on like it has the whole game then I will knock out those "flown out" divisions in a couple of months somewhere else.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 08/12/43

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TF 24 encounters mine field at Goodenough island (56,93)

Japanese Ships
AG AG-2096, Mine hits 1, on fire, heavy damage
AG AG-2530, Mine hits 1, on fire, heavy damage
AG AG-5142, Mine hits 1, on fire, heavy damage

sub laid mines at Goodengough. Always interesting again that a couple of sub laid mines always are 500 times more effective than a mine field laid by MLs. Probably something to make it more fun to use subs in the minelaying mission otherwise I can´t see why a minefield with 10.000 mines most often doesn´t achieve what a sub laid minefield with 2 dozen mines achieve.

those attacks from Cooktwon can only be seen as annoyance as Miller doesn´t keep up an ongoing air offensive against my bases around PM. So in fact, those attacks achieve nothing else than killing some ac on the ground, but they also don´t result in Allied bomber losses...

no chance it´s an URBAN hex. Even if out of supply, level 9 forts, 100% preparation and urban hex means his av would be multiplied by something like 4 or 5, means it would be far over 10.000. It´s like I´ve said, the developers of this game thought an Army could fight without having supply. Insane, but that´s how it is...

just look what the Allied at Wyndham were able to do for months without supply...

I guess Miller didn´t expect me to attack this base as I haven´t done so all the months since the start of my attack on Russia. It was intended to use Uglahamensk as a training target when the bases in the Philipines can´t be used for this anymore but after the bomber strike on Japan out of this airfield I decided it´s better to take out this base and it wouldn´t be a problem to do so anyway. Miller loses his B-24 squadron and also the Chinese bomber squadrons that were moved to Russia. Nice one... have to look for another training target for the years of 1945 and 1946 until the Allied will finally surrender...
