Remember to watch the video tutorials as well, they are quite educational!

They are packed with information and a good array of subject material. Nice job.

Checking the tutorial directory i've found an FoF video and the speaker's voice
was ... hwg, good that my wife wasn't around. The voice in COG:EE sounds to be
in the background (?) with the music in the foreground.

I have to admit being a little disappointed in the quality of the vocal audio in the tutorials.  I ran a lot of equipment tests before starting our recording sessions, and based on those tests the audio seemed fine -- noise was low and we were getting a nice, rich sound.  After recording a lot of audio, it seems as though the noise and the recording quality periodically varies.  To filter out the noise gave the voice a little bit of a mechanical, echo sound.

By comparison, the FOF audio was done in a recording studio, and really sounds a lot nicer.  Unfortunately to do all the tutorials in the recording studio would have cost a small fortune.  I'm going to look into investing in some better audio equipment, maybe some big sheets of plexiglass, for future recording sessions.

Actually, what we probably need is a better microphone and bunch of sound insulation. (That might be a good idea anyway, for the 'man cave'.)

Yeah, you really do not need plexiglass or such. Just a good mirco and some nice postprocessing software. Does not cost a fortune With a little bit of post you get great results. What is very helpfull is to have the audio separate from the footage for post

Check out the starter equipment that podcasters recommend.

Podcast gear starter package

* Audio Technica ST90MKII or Shure PG48 microphone ($30-$40)
* A pop filter (optional — $20-30)
* A mic stand to hold the mic on the desk

I've been looking into this a bit.  It does seem that if I get a cardioid mic, then it should minimize the terrible noises that plagued our first audio.  (I believe the large part of our problem was that the mic was picking up vibration noise that only happened periodically.)  Most of the articles I've been reading recommend avoiding the need to try to clean up noise in post-production, recommending instead to control noise in the source audio.

I've also seen it recommended to have a separate preamp instead of relying on the preamp in the sound card, which is considered to be poor quality.  Do you know anything about this?

We do have separate audio from video, naturally.
