The IJA 56th Division was struck twice for heavy troop losses. The IJA102nd Division also had heavy casualties from a couple of air attacks. The Allied artillery barrage continued as it dealt out very heavy losses on the Japanese. A Dauntless spotted an AP near Manila and reported a hit. Then the Japanese ships were under a CAP of 40 X Zeke, 7 X George, 14 X Jack and 20 X Frank when 61 X SBD, 54 X SB2C, 18 X TBF, 72 X TBM and 99 X F6F made a thunderous appearance. The fighters whirled and swirled, doing their deadly dance and then the AA blossomed over the ships. A lone Jack lived to file his report while the USN suffered the loss of 12 Hellcats. A Dauntless, 2 Helldivers, a TBF, 6 TBMs and 3 F6Fs were damaged in the fighting. It was described as a target rich environment as the following report was filed. Nobody is really doing their jobs properly as the boredom is destroying the unit. FDR is beaming and he says that he can't believe that Moscow has actually managed to pry so much territory from the Japanese. “You would think that Tokyo learned their lessen about Stalin letting us use a Soviet base to attack from. Now the northern part of Japan will suffer from our bombers as our long overdue bombardment of Japan will commence soon.” Stick had the day off and he just lazed around, wrote a couple of letters and then visited with the line mechanics. He still loves those guys, unlike so many of the pilots who take them for granted. U-boats sunk 8 ships and 2 DDs in a convoy bound for Murmansk. Victory Points Allied 52787 Japanese 39603
