Fortunately it is the left arm in the sling and I am right-handed. Now just have to squeeze in some time to DL the game between the sponge baths. My GF has been very accomodating in that department

Gee......No work.......Just time to play our favorite game........GF.....Spongebaths.........Sounds rough !

Took the plunge and jumped in with both feet. Got the Digital DL & Physical shipment coming. Was looking forward to getting into the game all day today but ended up sleeping until 3:15 pm. Hand has been really swollen last few days so must have needed the rest - feels alot better now so I will have to just try again tomorrow. Patched it up to 1.806 and that was all I could find on the Matrix site. Thank you all for your input - now just waiting for AE like everyone else. Good games all!

Glad to here you got some sleep - hopefully that will hold you for a few months - once you start playing you might not get any for some time!

Welcome to the club, BAR. Yes, v1.806 is the latest, just make sure you apply the v1.804 Comprehensive before you apply v1.806.

Excellent! Glad to hear you got it. I do hope you said your goodbyes to loved ones first though.

Welcome to the fold BAR, this is the best operational game out there, even with some of its faults. You will find that it is a very deep game that the more you learn about the game, the more layers you will find. But one warning; watch you rehydration and food intake, you can forget about worldly things when you play this game.

Thanks everyone,

This question has been on my mind too for a couple of weeks since learning of AE's pending release on the horizon.

I loved UV and spent many hours in play against the AI and I have fond memories of a number of PBEM games too. Though UV had its quirks, I often rolled into work tried and hung over from the "just one more turn" syndrome.

For some reason I never quite got around to buying and playing WiTP. I'm still not sure why--marriage, job, kids....hmmm....silly excuses I know.

I assume AE is going to have a hard copy manual. If so, I'll just do the digital download of WiTP and order AE as a physical copy when it comes out.

I'd order WITP as a hard copy too. I've had several times (like a trashed computer) where I was very glad that I did.

You can always just burn the DL copy to a disc yourself.

I'd just assumed that their were copyright safeguards built in.

That's the serial number. I have a whole slew of Matrix games, all of them burned to CD's by me, on my computer.

Thanks , that's good to know. Of course I'll not lose my number, it's on the disc they shipped me. Now if I write it down somewhere, nah, I'll never lose that!

been there and done that......Its just more than what I want a game on the pacific to be. It is notable that all the micromanagement makes the game work for most but not for me.
Against the AI those little things you mention are not that big of a deal but an average PBEM player could make mincemeat of the likes of me.
The problem with the "MORE DETAIL" type of player is they will never be enough even if it get to 1 man, 1 tank, 1 truck, 1 gun, 1 bullet, etc.
I think that if they ever get the kinks worked out of SaS I might give it a try. I love Matrix games and will keep supporting them but due to the economy I can no longer buy games that there is little chance I will play as I have done in the past.

To me this is a small but important point. I know we all kid about the time factor but it is a real thing. For me it would take longer to play the game than it did to fight the war. I guess I don't mind if the game has many layers but I don't want to have to deal with them.
Even though I am retired, live alone and spend time volunteering I just don't see me being able to spend the time it would take to play this game or AE for that matter. I have a life to live and a game taking the time that this one does is just not worth it to me. So for different reasons I think I agree with Charles.

I went and looked at the AE manual preview. The pictures of the task force information screen gave me warm fuzzy feelings of my UV days and I couldn't resist. I'm doing the digital download option as I write--now let's see if I can figure out the proper patch sequence.

Best, -ChuckK

Got it. I'm patch to 1.806 and I think I'll go cut my teetch on the Coral Sea scenario. Man, I've replayed that battle in a lot of PTO games down through the years.

I have not ordered or played WitP yet, but a friend at Monstercon (CSW Expo 2009) in Tempe has roped me into the enterprise.  He's waiting for the AE.  Is there an advantage (discount?) to buying WitP and AE as a single package?  What is the installation sequence - including patches - for the entire kit?  Thanks.
