There was a F-104 there two years ago . I used to visit it frequently when I was a member of the MOF. (it's a truly gorgeous airplane!).

There still is an F-104 there; in a NASA paint scheme, IIRC.

I tried getting into the ball turret on a B-17 when I was 12. I couldn't fit then. I also managed to wiggle into the turret on a TBM at that age. It was a tight fit. I wouldn't want to try and get out of that thing in a hurry!

The staggered waist guns were made standard on the late G. I believe it was partway through the G production run that the waist gun positions were enclosed. The early Gs and other versions had the waist guns directly across from one another.

BTW, the reason 909 survived is that it was involved in nuclear tests in the early 50s. It had to sit out on the range for a while to cook out and by the time the radiation levels were safe, there was enthusiasm about saving WW II aircraft.

Very cool to hear them relate their stories.

The guys on the right are wearing B-15 flight jackets. The collars look too new to be originals though. I have my father's, the collar is a couple of shades lighter than those two.

yeah but there is a big sign on them that say do not step on them. because they are designed to give way if you jump on them(ie in a bailout senario). same thing with the front wheel well doors. also when you are flyng since the airplane isn't so much sealed the air rushes through the front turret and down the length of the aircraft so it is a bit windy.
