Glory Standings

Ottoman Glory made some nice advances-200 points for a surrender will be a nice addition-especially with Austria's cut in half.

Culture Report

The Capture of so many Austrian provinces has given the Ottoman Empire a boost in "Culture". This has help slightly in monthly glory increase.

Diplomacy

Surprise number two; Prussia decided to honor its treaty with Spain over that of Great Britain. Their alliance has been dissolved-and are at war. Prussia actually has invaded the British holdings in North Germany and Denmark.

I do not understand the Kaiser's reasoning-it was quite safe with G.B. as an ally-it will exist in a different world henceforth.

Balkans AO

The 1st Army was ordered to cross the mountains in winter-a rash move, but was operationally safe. The goal was to capture Galicia and its garrison-one of the last garrisons Austria has left-2 divisions likely. Another force is to speed march to Koval to defeat the small Austrian force in the area. This force would be small enough to move with forage orders, but large enough to ensure victory. It seems like a lot of moving about for small gain, but something must be done to keep Austria engaged-and bleeding.

Political Actions

Just how can Austria continue a war with most of its country occupied? Well, Great Britain seems to like to prop up the Austrian Emperor with massive gold donations. Now that Great Britain is at war itself, such donations will not be easy to maintain.

National Comparisons

Austria has gone from being depleted of money to having more than the Ottoman Empire. What is one to do with such an ally as England? G.B. and Turkey still maintain significant trade-if I did not need the money-I could order the halt of sales of cotton to G.B. Before I do that, I should be ready for war with England.

Moral Comparisons

The Ottoman Empire has a marginal lead over Austria in moral at this time. My one real ally (as of yet) is languishing at the bottom of the list-whoa is me.

Strength Comparisons

The Ottoman Empire widens its lead in total military power over Austria. Spain and Great Britain have experienced drops in total strength due to their new war. Spain has suffered a significant drop after its defeat in Italy.

Upgrades

Artillery Organization was the latest training upgrade for Ottoman forces. Along with the new barracks, occupied Austrian territory is adding to Ottoman "experience". Quarterly gain is now up to 83 points-almost 14 times what is was 13 years ago. Not even 10% of that number is from temporarily occupied territory.

Battle History

Great Britain smashed the Spanish Italia Army last month at Romagna-a decisive victory. Both armies were about the same size-apparently the British Army has some superior training. I was under the impression that Spain had more "upgrades'-and was a better force. It may be that the BEF has more unit training upgrades-I will have to look into that.

Glory Standings

All the powers are advancing in Glory, but the positions are constant-for now. Things will look much different in a year.

Another couple of barracks were completed this month. This is about the end of barracks contruction. The cost in textiles has become too high. It may be that a further surge will be possible in a couple of years, but nothing like what had already been accomplished. The National Harem has requirements too.

Strategic Map

The Spanish in Italy are dispersed. There is a large force that went into garrison at Venitia.

A large Prussian army has moved south-just what is going on in the Kaiser's head-I wonder. This is a threat to France-and indirectly to the O.E.

The campaign in Poland went as planed; Galicia was captured along with it garrison and the small Austrian force in Koval was forced into battle. The Austrians were defeated and fled accros the border into Prussia-apparently they are still allies.

In an effort to secure my supply lines and perhaps gain an active dialog with the Czar, a treaty was proposed for depot sharing with Russia this month-one can hope.

Thanks Zap. I may find some interesting Ottoman sites to spice this up a bit. The game has picked up in speed and intensity.

Good luck with the pool.

Glory Standings

Austria, with unending support from Great Britain is maintaining its strong lead in Glory.

Two arts centers were completed this month. Both Ankara and Bursa have road developments that allow for double speed development for some time to come.

Balkans AO

After the brief campaign in Poland it was decided to concentrate forces for a possible battle with Austria. I suspected that Emperor Matto would be heading for Grosswardien, so I moved in that direction.

As it transpired, he did move in the general direction I expected, but with concentrated forces. The Sultan seriously contemplated the pros and cons of engaging in a defensive battle in Grosswardien against the combined Austrian forces. In the end, it was decided it was not worth the risks-time is against Austria-no need to take a great gamble right now.

Orders were issued to take Ottoman forces back into home territory where they can acquire some more training.

A large British force is known to be embarked and headed to....someplace. As Portugal is loaded with Spanish forces it is likely that G.B. will launch another north African campaign-or reinforce Italy.

Diplomacy

Surprise number three; the Czar joins in the war against Austria. I had re-initiated contact with the Czar a couple of months ago. I sought a depot sharing treaty to secure my supply lines from the coming Austrian cavalry rush. My offer was countered with a temporary alliance-this was a pleasant surprise.

With Russia in the fray supply will be more secure and there is the now the opportunity to mass an overwhelming force for a decisive battle.

Culture Report

The Ottoman Empire stands in 4th place here too. At the end of this war Russia and possibly Spain will still have a lead in culture. The affects of the Amphitheater Initiative will take a while to make an impact-a few years.

The Province in the background is a prime cotton and textile producer. It can produce much more, but there is development ongoing there. Also, taxes are at the maximum which drives down production.

Balkans AO

I may have missed one of those great opportunities in accepting battle at Grosswardien. Had I been certain that Austria would split its force I would have taken the chance of the defensive battle-with likely good results. As I was not certain-I had to pass on that option. This is another one of the few great "what if's".

On the bright side-all units are up to strength and some new unit training was added to select divisions. The garrison in Grosswardien was an irregular cav division-it is gone now-they did the best with what they had.

BEF in Italy

The BEF has an unusual organization. 5 corps in one army is not seen. The number of divisions is within the normal range. I wonder if this had something to do wioth its great victory over Spain.

Spanish Army

This is the force that is on its way to punish the Brits. Both armies are just under 150,000 strong. There is no clear advantage in division attributes between the two forces-the coming battle will be interesting.
