Spanish Surrender to Britain

Britain also gained a large amount of territory from Spain.

Economy
June, 1802

It has been ten long years since the beginning of this era. Although some of the initial goals have been met, or at least are well under way-things have not gone exactly as planned-to put it mildly. Alliances have been the most dismal failure. England helping my primary foe and Russia being totally uncooperative in any matter. I'm surprised that Russia has not declared war on the O.E.

Regardless of the failures, overall, very significant progress has been made in increasing Turkish power, wealth and glory. The economy is stronger than ever. I am running the near the highest tax rate and maintaining maximum moral. Production does suffer from this, but there is no choice if the O.E. plans to build into a modern and powerful Empire that can compete with Europe. Taxes will be reduced at a later date.

As any war is very unlikely for at least a year, the draft and Army readiness have been reduced drastically.

Yes, the King of England is quite savvy with meeting his official obligations, being the good guy while positioning England into the top spot.

Provincial development is running at full speed. At this time there is only one province, Bosnia, which has no project underway. This will be remedied in the near future.

And, for the first time, the complete table of provincial improvements.
This is a massive expense, but seems like it can be maintained for a long time-so long as there is peace.

Notice all the projects that will be completed this year alone. In a few cases, some of these provinces will actually complete its development-start and finish another this year. Of course, this rate of building cannot be maintained forever. The cost in materials are increasing-and those will become more difficult to come by than the gold.

Of 42 provinces in the Ottoman Empire, 41 are undergoing development.

You can get a good idea of the changes each nation is experiencing per month from this end of month report. Britain is gaining 12 to 13 per turn while the O.E. is gaining 11 or 12 per turn. Our positions relative to one another, will remain fairly constant until a new war shakes things up.

Austria is far in the lead-and is gaining. Spain, although far down the glory list is increasing in glory about 18 (IIRC) per month. It will rapidly overtake the others. Within a few years it can pass Turkey and Britain. This is die to a high level of cultural development and, more importantly, holding target provinces. I am not too worried about Spain anymore though. I can't imagine the English King, KingMaker, allowing both Spain and Austria to pull ahead of all other nations again. Spain will be slapped down again.

This is the current-and typical glory increase for the O.E. each month. It will soon increase by 1 point for culture due to the arts developments. Occasionally there is an increase of 2 for luxury consumption.

The current production levels are barely adequate. I can lower taxes to get an immediate improvement, but am trying to increase overall production by provincial improvements. Hopefully I can maintain full speed development for a couple of years.

Andrew Kurtz is the King of Sweden. Sweden has lain low throughout the game. I notice an occasional increase in Sweden's army or some other thing. He seems intent on engaging in a culture war. Sweden has maintained a healthy increase in glory even though it has not been in any wars. I do not know how Sweden can win in this game-playing against humans anyway. One major war and its manpower will be gone. If he does it, its got to be the big one-for the big win. There do not seem to be many choices for where he can strike at-Russia or Prussia. Sweden may be allied to both right now.

December, 1802

A new map was recently developed to show the borders of the European borders. Its a little on the small side, but useful.

Notice that the O.E.'s borders have expanded in Africa, along the north Adriatic coast and in the Carpathian Mountains.

Montenegro is still independent. During the wars I could not spare anything to fight its little army. Now, the issue is waste-I should wait a while before taking it. I may have to move as the English are hanging around in south Italy-including a diplomat. If he crosses over into Montenegro-I will have to act. I do not need an English puppet on my flank.

Another 7 projects completed this month. The glory standings are remaining constant for now. Spain is rapidly approaching Prussia.

The draft and military readiness are still being held down. This is saving at least 100 in gold per month.

The Ottoman Army has developed into a much more power force over the past 10 years. There are some big plans for further increases in both size and ability.

The following 3 tables show the entire Ottoman Army.

You will notice some units are at a very low moral level. Most of these were units captured in the mid 90's by Austria. Eventually they will be brought up to standards.

January, 1803

In the bottom right you can see the amassed experience, waiting to be used, along with the current quarterly increase. It is now up to 38%-an increase of 9 points in a year.

Just how I will use that experience is still a big question. There seems to be three approaches; select multiple cheap combat doctrines, a few expensive combat doctrines, or concentrate on moral boosting doctrines. A fourth could be a combination of the former. Oh yea, there is also the option of upgrading individual unit training. This seemed to work, but will be very expensive with the larger army.

Overall, not much has changed with force locations. The BEF has moved around a bit-England keeping everyone guessing.

Development is roaring ahead. Some Viziers are still agitating for more to be spent on the arts-they were told to stuff it, before they are stuffed. The Ottoman Empire will have the greatest army in Europe-first. Actually, the next year will possibly bring a halt to any non essential, non barracks construction. Some courts must be proceeded with-along with a few roads-but no more arts.

To have 8 projects complete at the same time is a first. Normally it is only 3 or 4-occasionally only 2.
