Turn 4, Day 1.

WN 20 / 716th INF DIV vs 8th BDE/ 3RD British ID

As June 6th comes to a end for Sword beach, the light now is a lot brighter at the end of the tunnel. Infantry pushed hard all during the day to secure most of the area, setting up a massive tank bombardment for the final push to move inland.

After fighting against our reserve troops for the better part of the day, the British 5th Para has found out the hard way that there is a price to pay for invading Europe. With the removal of 5th Para, the way is now that much clearer to head west and lend support to our reserve units that are doing their best to slow the advance of the Allied armies.

Three of our self-propelled feldhaubitze with their 105mm guns rained death on the Brits that were already on the run from Pegasus, allowing our infantry to slowly close the pocket until the British unit was shattered and fled. They will likely try to find friendly forces at Merville or Ouistreham.

A couple pics of the gun as well as a shot of our most valuable unit at Troarn in this battle.

Turn 4, Day 1.

WN 29 / 716th INF DIV vs 8th BDE/ 3RD Canadian ID

After failing to hold Juno Beach the German defenders fell back to Tailleville/Taineville. Still a strong force, they dug in and waited to pounce on the 8th arriving off the beaches. Their plan was pretty simple, deny any exit points and do as much damage as possible!

Turn 4, Day 1.

915th RGT/ 352nd INF DIV vs 231st BDE/ 50th British ID

No need to post a picture here. Area is still in a stalemate. I got careless or stupid or just out played really by not committing to a plan of attack or just playing it safe ( I just never could decide what I wanted to do here). It cost me 2 tanks in the end, and little to nothing gained. We had very bad connection and the battle was ended after just 7 minutes.

End of turn 4, day 1 action report!

Brevands:

Night, Day 2

II./6th Fallschirmjager RGT vs 502nd RGT/ 101st AB DIV

6th FJ must be wondering what all the fuss is about. First they come under fire from 501st and just as soon as that battle ends they get the 502nd. No need to post any picture here, all area to the Vierille/St Come Du Mont of the bridge was taken along with middle of the bridge. Without any type of extra support there was no need to waste men trying to get a foothold on the otherside of that bridge at this point. Ive already seen the results of trying first hand!

*************************************************************************

Le Port Brehay:

Night, Day 2.

12th Rgt (4th ID) main task here will be to just keep the germans 1058th tied down and away from St Mere Eglise. This was not much of a battle, just pushed in until my men came under the deadly invisible german fire. Add in a few Ka-Boom sounds from his StuG and you get the picture.

Amfreville:

Night, Day 2

729th RGT/ 709th INF DIV vs 507th RGT/ 82nd AB DIV

A little more ground was gained, but the germans still hold the town area at the bottom of the map. 507th now remains the only Rgt of the 82nd that has not reported back to Hq. Still cut off they will continue to hold out until help arrives from the beach.

**************************************************************************

Dog Red:

Night, Day 2.

WN 66/716th INF DIV vs 115th RGT/ 29th INF DIV

With the at-gun support knocked out last battle, the German defenders were in for a tuff fight here this time. Up until now, ive yet to scratch this BG's infantry, but that all changed this battle. For first time here they took excessive infantry losses due to support tank fire.

Funny thing happened here though, I had M5 scouting behind German lines as it turned out, was disabled by mortar fire and later captured by the Germans according to the after battle reports. They did possible knock out the mortar team and if thats the case it will mean even more bad news here for the defenders next battle.

Pointe Du Hoc is in stalemate.

Merville, Sword, Hermanville and Crepon are our final battles for this turn.

Gold beach is under german control till start of our next turn. German BG from Gold was blocking at arromanches unless they got moved out(I highly doubt that would happened, because they got great position on that map from any new entering BG). 69th(50ID) from Gold is now at Bayeux, they followed 231st(50ID) when it went into Crepon.

Gz..

Correct. 69th(50ID) from Gold gained the Arromanches exit the very first battle. If I recall they moved out the very next turn, turn2 day1. Bob then took advantage of me leaving Arromanches (turn3), setting up his German Bg there to block any new Bgs from heading out into the Omaha sector. Thats actually a great Bg for him to deploy there. They have several at-guns that can dominate the beach entry point, plus enuff Mgs to knock off any advancing infantry units. Only down fall is they dont have a lot of reserves, so I am sure he will defend accordingly. Its also a long map and will take probably a full day to traverse.

There was no reason for me to stay and slug it out turn after turn on Gold beach. That map (to me anyways) was going to be a real mess trying to get thru the at-guns in the bunkers (Bob has just torched me with that type of setup). So with the break out at Arromanches, I decided to try and get to Bayeux before Germans get new Bgs on day 2. First BG i sent was from Arromanches, and it got blocked at Crepon. So I took BG from Gold and ran them up to Bayeux. It leaves me a little mess at Arromanches to deal with day 2, but considering the outlook of having the Germans blocked toward Caen I think it was worth the gamble. Now entire middle section around Omaha sector is basically open for me to secure. Time will tell how that plays out. Fact of matter is I dont expect a lot great things in the GJS area anyway with all German armor sitting there. After I lost 5th para to a horrible entry point, I'll have to really look at were I can and cant move in that area anyway. If I have 1/2 that area by end of 4 days I would be happy. Fact is Caen was not secured in 4 days anyway, this game sure seems to hold to that.

Its just a game, I am always learning at what one can or cant do with every battle that plays out (its very hard attacking into a set defense, that I know for sure!). I am probably a below average or average player at best so as I said in one post, "dont do as I do!".

Gz...

End of Night turn, day 2 action report!

Another marathon night of war gaming slowly comes to an end.

For the first time the level of German victory has now fallen from "major" to "minor".

i rmemeber when i played gold beach on GJS, it took me 4-5 battles and i lost all my tanks to take the map, it was slaughter.

this time however, in TLD i took it in 2 battles. heres the trick: 1st battle, just take up to the hedgerows. its almost certain he wont deploy near the beach because he will get destroyed by your tanks. then truce it, and 2nd round, bring like 5 at guns and set them up in the hedgerows, with LOS to all the bunkers. then just duel it out, at gun vs at gun. i lost 2 at guns in the hedgerows, and knocked out all his 4 guns in the bunkers, including the pak43. then once the guns are gone, send in tanks to clear everything up.

i always wondered why gold beach was the most difficult beach map in the game, seeing as there werent a lotta casualties IRL. the map is open ground to trenches and bunkers; it's horrible

im enjoyin the AAR so far. in my game we just finished the 1st day

Exit 2:

Turn 1, Day 2.

919th RGT/ 709th Inf Div vs 8Th RGT/ 4th INF Div

Progress was slow but steady. A few more buildings were taken to both flanks of the area taken last time. Jerry remains commited to holding the last area of the town and keeping the 8th from moving inland for some time to come.

**************************************************************************************************************

Brevands:

Turn 1, Day2.

II./6th Fallschirmjager RGT vs 502nd RGT/ 101st AB DIV

No changes, maybe a small foothold on the other side of the river bank now.

**************************************************************************************************************

Carentan:

Turn 1, Day 2.

WN5/709th ID vs 501st RGT/101st AB Div

WN5 returns to secure Carentan just as the 501st enters the town. With only a few teams left, jerry deployed in a hit and run defense to stall as long as possible. Tactic worked well, forcing me to take the town one building at a time and taking several mortar hits along the way. Eventually the Town falls to allied control with just a few minutes left. Carentan is now secured.

I expect a counter attack next turn from the Causeway by trailing units of the I./6th FJ RGT.

**************************************************************************************************************

Amfreville:

Turn 1, Day 2

729th RGT/ 709th INF DIV vs 507th RGT/ 82nd AB DIV

ill give u a tip on this map man; leave it until the tanks roll up. he will be able to hold you from getting across the road the whole game if he wants. i almost destroyed an AB battlegroup trying to take the south of this town :(

i can say without a doubt that it is my most hated map in all cc

Yep, crossing open roads is never fun (not sure even a chicken would want to cross a CC road!). Fairly happy with the area I got on that map to this point considering the numbers, but one can always try and add to it, thats basically what I did last battle. I did not expect the end result, more of the game then what I did. Sometimes you attack an area with equal numbers and you are either stalled or pushed back, this time after a very lengthy firefight, the defense broke just enuff for me to get thru it a little bit. Help is on the way for this Bg, but at same time I dont need any goldbrick'n Bgs either!

Dog Red:

Turn 1, Day 2.

WN 66/716th INF DIV vs 115th RGT/ 29th INF DIV

I definitly paid a high price for the way I attacked this map, not only in men power but also with the amount of area I still had to get thru for the final flag this battle. I did not take anything for granted here this time (after facing a deployment behind my orginal setup on another map), basically I deployed at my outer perimeter, which was a long way from my objective let me tell you. His defense was as well prepared as I expected it to be, stalling me at every step of the way. I finally reached the summit of the southern hill (a feat which seemed like I never would accomplish when I first started battling this map) and last flag area with just under 2 minutes left. I had to rush several infantry teams thru minefield (few mini- ka-booms!), with the aid of a lone M5 (which survived a missed faust) the flag fell neutral just as time expired. That was just enuff to secure this map and put this nightmare to rest!

**************************************************************************

Counter attack!

Easy Red:

914th RGT/352nd ID vs 18th RGT/ 1st INF DIV

Enuff already with this map. Just as my boys were gearing up to head inland after a well needed break, here comes jerry with a major counter attack! Ok, enuff with the BS again, basically Bob screwed up similar to what I did at Troarn. He guessed I might move up the beach and he thought even if I did not, I would win the movement and we would battle on his terms at Colleville. Well it did not work out that way, so basically his Bg was a sitting duck to be slaughtered when it won the movement to enter this bloody map.

I made sure as I was setting up for this feast that I had a picture of 5th Para sitting right next to the monitor so as not to forget the pain jerry caused me in a similar situation. Tactics I needed to use here were pretty simple. See the enemy (no cover by the way, as my infantry pressed into them their fate was sealed), blast the enemy with tanks until either everyone of them left a red spot on my monitor or morale broke, which ever came first I did not care.

Beach secured for the second consecutive time and hopefully the last!

**************************************************************************

Second try St Honorine!

St Honorine:

916th RGT/352nd ID vs 26th RGT/1st ID

As news of the demise of the 914th filters in I am sure this Rgt will be looking for revenge! Unfortunatly I did not give them the opportunity this turn!
