ORIGINAL: sprior I hate to say it but if you want to be bitter about the outcome of WW1 then maybe you should lay the blame closer to home. And if I were you I wouldn't lay claim to being the only loser from that war, I can identify members of my parents family whose names are on war memorials in small villages (and it doesn't get much more drastic that that). I'm not blameing anyone. I came in here and felt the armistice was celebrated. That's why I said I'm wondering. I was then told this is to remember the fallen. I said I appreciate this and that I'm sorry, that I didn't intend to annoy or insult anyone. When Steve came here to insult me personally, I felt - I know that's stupid - that I might explain why that date is special to me and my family. But obviously that doesn't matter as I've "insulted the memory of fallen" in some eyes here. Because of that date, my family didn't only loose much what was rightfully ours in this war and the one that followed, we didn't just loose some soldiers in the field, we were also persecuted by the regime that manage to follow by claiming it'll end the "shame" of this date... So it is a special feeling. I never wanted anyone to participate in it. I also didn't intend to tell the story. My only fault was mistaking this here as a celebration of the reason that cause all mentioned above to my family. If that's a crime and if it's a crime not to take a big "research" (He also typted that before reading all my postings) when typing a small sentence, if it doesn't matter that I said I'm sorry, that I didn't intend to insult and annoy anyone... Well, than its the best for us all when I never disturb your harmony again! Oh , trust me, I haven't insulted you personally. I critized the "deed" not the doer. Now I will critized the doer, just so there is no mistake. How many times since you have joined us have you had people suggest that you not stir up political discussion on this forum? One mistake is just that. A number of them constitutes a pattern. Now comes the personal insult part. I suggest that you might be a "Troll" looking to stir up pain, anguish and anger for your own satisfaction. Apologies are all well and good, but fleeting and temporary. You know the rules , customs and procedures here Historiker. Try and follow them. Consistantly. If you unable to do so, then perhaps you should take a time out. I didn't read all your postings , that's correct (as most hadn't been typed yet). When one is punched in the face , one doesn't wait around to see if it's followed by a smile, and a a "oops, my mistake". Take some time off, and use it to grow up. Insult over. Steve, Can we minimize the political fingerpointing and name calling in this thread (scuze...THE THREAD!!!) please? NO, apparently we can't. I have always tried to do just that , and usually been laughed at for trying to "keep the peace" on the forum as a rule. I for one am tired of being a punching bag. Especially by people who continuously provoke, then try to blame it all on a "launguage Misunderstanding". Once is a misunderstanding. Twice is an unfortuante incident. Four or more times is a habit pattern. This has been more than four times. Even a dog knows the difference between being tripped over and kicked. Well, finally , so do I. Enough. If you have a problem with my postion on this latest "incident" please feel to green button me or report me to the approriate authorities. The sooner they are involved , the better. Steve, buddy, at ease! I don't think anyone is trying to use you for a punching bag. Torsten has learned a great deal about how we view Veterans Day in the US, UK, and other places. As Chickenboy described it so well, it is "Observation not celebration." It may be time for us all to relax and raise a glass to those who gave all.
