I should pull my head out more often. I had no idea it was from the Baldur's Gate guys. Must . . . resist . . . ordering.

Balder's Gate guys? Hmmm....

As I said before, for someone who doesn't care what I think, your spending an awfull amount of time on the subject of my opion. Can't you stand to lose an audience?

I'm not sure what "stand lose" means. That I must have the last word? That I can't loose a crosstalk? That I always care about what others think?

Indeed, I spent way too much time on this subject.

Maybe I should listen more to your signature . Unfortunately, I seem to make the wrong impression now for the second time. What keeps my attention and prevents me from just ignoring it is, that in both cases I feel like being totally misunderstood and consequently being treated wrong. In fact, I'd never ever intend to dishonor the memory of righteous men. That's totally out of my mind and one thing I hate in my own country - that this is done here. I am also one of the few in Germany who defended the US all the past decade when the whole world seemed to hate this great country.

I don't have that problem being hated for a position I take but - unfortunately - I obviously have a big problem when being hated for a positon I don't even have.

As you might have read, I was really angry about you, but still wrote
quote:

Well, you're most likely a fine man and have to be respected, but obviously, I should evade you!

Farewell and just the best for you!

So I never didn't care about what you said... Now you have my weak spot...

I hate to say it but if you want to be bitter about the outcome of WW1 then maybe you should lay the blame closer to home.

And if I were you I wouldn't lay claim to being the only loser from that war, I can identify members of my parents family whose names are on war memorials in small villages (and it doesn't get much more drastic that that).

I'm not blameing anyone. I came in here and felt the armistice was celebrated. That's why I said I'm wondering.

I was then told this is to remember the fallen. I said I appreciate this and that I'm sorry, that I didn't intend to annoy or insult anyone.

When Steve came here to insult me personally, I felt - I know that's stupid - that I might explain why that date is special to me and my family. But obviously that doesn't matter as I've "insulted the memory of fallen" in some eyes here.

Because of that date, my family didn't only loose much what was rightfully ours in this war and the one that followed, we didn't just loose some soldiers in the field, we were also persecuted by the regime that manage to follow by claiming it'll end the "shame" of this date...

So it is a special feeling. I never wanted anyone to participate in it. I also didn't intend to tell the story. My only fault was mistaking this here as a celebration of the reason that cause all mentioned above to my family.

If that's a crime and if it's a crime not to take a big "research" (He also typted that before reading all my postings) when typing a small sentence, if it doesn't matter that I said I'm sorry, that I didn't intend to insult and annoy anyone...

Well, than its the best for us all when I never disturb your harmony again!

Oh , trust me, I haven't insulted you personally. I critized the "deed" not the doer. Now I will critized the doer, just so there is no mistake. How many times since you have joined us have you had people suggest that you not stir up political discussion on this forum? One mistake is just that. A number of them constitutes a pattern. Now comes the personal insult part. I suggest that you might be a "Troll" looking to stir up pain, anguish and anger for your own satisfaction. Apologies are all well and good, but fleeting and temporary. You know the rules , customs and procedures here Historiker. Try and follow them. Consistantly. If you unable to do so, then perhaps you should take a time out.

I didn't read all your postings , that's correct (as most hadn't been typed yet). When one is punched in the face , one doesn't wait around to see if it's followed by a smile, and a a "oops, my mistake". Take some time off, and use it to grow up. Insult over.

Steve,

Can we minimize the political fingerpointing and name calling in this thread (scuze...THE THREAD!!!) please?

NO, apparently we can't. I have always tried to do just that , and usually been laughed at for trying to "keep the peace" on the forum as a rule. I for one am tired of being a punching bag. Especially by people who continuously provoke, then try to blame it all on a "launguage Misunderstanding". Once is a misunderstanding. Twice is an unfortuante incident. Four or more times is a habit pattern. This has been more than four times. Even a dog knows the difference between being tripped over and kicked. Well, finally , so do I. Enough. If you have a problem with my postion on this latest "incident" please feel to green button me or report me to the approriate authorities. The sooner they are involved , the better.

Steve, buddy, at ease! I don't think anyone is trying to use you for a punching bag. Torsten has learned a great deal about how we view Veterans Day in the US, UK, and other places. As Chickenboy described it so well, it is "Observation not celebration." It may be time for us all to relax and raise a glass to those who gave all.

I do :)

You just don't give a **** about what others think and feel - otherwise you'd understand. Not to talk about the impudence that you decide who is insulted and who not. Empathy is a foreign word for you, otherwise you'd understand what the 11th November means for Germany - and in fact all of Europe 1939-45... - not even to mention my own family.
The miserable Kraut has dared to insult your feelings and that justifies to get a foamy mouth and to ignore the rest.

How'd you feel when Germany had its "independance day" or something like this on 9/11 and Germans celebrate it here?
I bet my right arm you wouldn't even say sorry! (as I did a dozend times, now)

(not to mention that this comparison is - of course - outraging, right?)

Torsten, it's probably time for you to back off and let things go as well. A misunderstanding (that you have apologized for several times already) has lead to personal insults. Let's not continue down that path, please.

Goodness Gracious!

Well, I suppose it has to happen occasionally. Personally, I think that every culture/nation has a right to its own perspective as long as it is based on fact. I also think that history has been much too cruel and muddled for us to take offense at each other on such a general basis. I dont suggest that you guys go to neutral corners because you respect each others views and opinions, but rather because you respect the other person's right to them.

I think both sides have argumented their stance well, however, Steve, I think you are really overreacting. Historiker was being "selfish" for lack of a better term and he is at fault for not acknowledging (at least initially) the losses the other side suffered, thinking only of his own. But I do not think that he was being intentionally insulting.

Historiker, I am frankly puzzled at your point of view. Suffice it to say that I have some dates in my ethnic background that I feel "my people" earned a right to celebrate. Would you have the same reaction to that?

Naturally, I dont think that this as an appropriate venue to discuss this, and I am glad to think that peace has resumed.

Okay, having spent some time reflecting on Modern Warfare 2, here's my thoughts. Graphics and audio are fantastic, AI is respectable, weapons selection is good, but the storytelling is not as good as we're used to from the boys at Infinity Ward. It's over too fast, and has some plot holes you could fly a C-130 through.

That being said, I've definitely been entertained (and shocked more than once). Very bloody game. 8.5 out of 10.

A co-worker told me about the airport "cutscene" as he called it.

No. It's a secret known only to non-wood people.

Besides, I thought you'd concluded it was crap once you heard I'd worked on it.

I figured maybe your involvement might have been limited to testing to make sure the menu buttons work. Hence, i've given it another chance.

What's it play like?

I'm guessing the menu buttons dont work very well.

OK. Apparently everyone feels I'm over sensetive (just because this is the third time I've been through this particular battle), Perhaps a time out will "desensitize". I would have figured that my taking a weeks vacation would have done that. So it's obviously time for an extended time out. Cheers!

I just did something I haven't done in over a decade: stayed up all night playing a computer game. That's how fantastic Dragonage is. When the first fully-grown dragon landed in front of my party, I felt about as significant as a flea, and my weapons about as powerful as a snowball in a blast furnace.

Thank you, Bioware.
