Well, every ones to bed and now I must figure out how to deal with Scott1964's KB. Since it is still 1941 it may take a very clever plan. I have therefore enlisted Santa, Baldrick and Captain Morgan to assist me in crafting some clever ruse.

Captain Morgan has been known to help me come up with many clever plans.

Merry Christmas to one and all.

It's an ugly day in North Carolina, weatherwise. Freezing rain on top of melting snow. Things can only get worse when we get to the mother-in-laws place later today to sample her traditional holiday meal: burnt yams, cold brocolli and some form of overcooked fowl. Yummy!

Merry Christmas, radar! Just some light rain here in Raleigh. We're still full from our Christmas Eve dinner, and happily playing with new toys.

Good morning and Merry Christmas to all you genitals out there.

Everything should be closed to day, so I'm gonna be stuck at home. Kinda makes me wish I had a game to play. Maybe one about the PTO.

But tomorrow, the New Years shopping starts.....now that you guys are done clogging up the mall parking lots.

Hello all.

And both the Zero and Wildcat sucked.

Except when they didn't.

Which depended on many circumstances, but you are all wrong if you disagree.

And your mother is a hamster, and your father smells of elderberries.

You are incorrect.

I cannot possibly be incorrect, thus you are incorrect in reference to the incorrectness you illogically mentioned above because of your fanboy allegiance to outmoded concepts found in poorly researched books you are obviously misinterpreting since you do not agree with all of the brilliant points I am making , or, in other words, I cannot hear your arguments over the sound of my own awesomeness.

Right then.

My wife was on call a few years back, when she received a phone call from a good Samaritan motorist that stopped to pick up an injured animal and brought it to the clinic where my wife (also a veterinarian) worked.

The motorist was driving home and noticed a red fox struggling to get to its feet by the side of the road. Figuring that the animal had been hit by a car, she scooped it up (and had her kids help her do so) and put it into her trunk, transporting it to the hospital.

After a brief examination, my wife determined that the fox had, in fact, not been struck by an automobile, but was having neurologic disease from another cause. As the area where we lived was heavily endemic with rabies in the fox population, this was a distinct possibility. As the animal was somewhat fractious (growling / attempting to nip), the fox was humanely euthanized and tested for rabies. It was positive.

As veterinary students, both my wife and I went through the regimen of vaccine prophylaxis for rabies. We periodically have our titers rechecked to see if we're still protected-we are. Of course, the same cannot be said for families that, in spite of good intentions, expose themselves to rabid animals by close contact. IIRC, the family (at least the ones handling the fox) had to undergo prophylactic vaccination.

Foxes that act odd or confrontational are to be avoided. Same with skunks, racoons, possums, dogs and the like. Neurologic disease in these species should be considered rabies suspects until proven otherwise. I have a healthy respect for those diseases that are almost invariably fatal to human beings that are in our midst.

Now don't even get me started on rabid cows...

Do tell.

Pardon my ignorance, but I had thought that rabies, as such, tends to be fairly rare in nature and that verious neurological diseases quickly lead to the animal's demise.

'Tis quite alright. Your ignorance is perfectly understandable. Rabies is quite common in select species in nature (all mammals, but only very rarely rodents), but the species involved are not typically fatally affected. They have an odd carrier state of sorts sometimes (bats) or, in the case of skunks, foxes, racoons and the like, the neurologic disease does (eventually) get 'em after weeks or months of infection.

You're right about the neurologic disease bit. Once it gets to that stage for most animals (particularly those in nature), they're goners. It's just determining how much damage they do on the way out. Ever seen a neurologic bull moose? They might die from the disease, but I wouldn't wanna be anywhere around 'em while they're making up their mind to do so. "A moose once bit my sister."

There is a lesson to be learned here.

Hi all,

One small tidbit... when we went to Vienna we also visited the St. Stephen's Cathedral there...

We climbed inside the south tower (tower is 135 meter high and you can climb to about 70 meters of height - to the observation room) via round staircase with 430+ stairs.

All the way up in stairway and into the observation room at the top there were inscriptions on the walls (the stone used for building was rather soft limestone). Some of them dated to 19th century but mostly were new.

What especially captured my attention was several engraved signatures in the observation room (at the very top you can go). I noticed several signatures with German names with dates overlaping the fall of Vienna (and Russians entering the city) the biggest signature was one German name and date 11-14 April 1945 (thus he was there at the very end in heavily damaged building) . I also noticed many Russian (in Cyrillic) signatures in late April and May 1945...

Leo "Apollo11"

Interesting. One of my grandfathers was around there at the time (the other was still in a hospital after being badly wounded in '43). From everything I know of him, however, I dont think he was the type to leave autographs on historical monuments.

Does your wife have the least bit of interest in arguing about military/historical events that took place 60 years ago? No? Then youre safe.

Hey guys, that thread over in the main AE forum got me thinking:

Why is Nik such a bad influence on Matrix?

Because according to an authoritive source, who never insults first, and who's never owned or played the game this forum is devoted too in 6 years......i'm a jap fanboy who's helped make this game a Tojo fantasy.

i am evil!

Evil log, eh? I think I had one of those the other day. An unholy apparation that appeared following abundant consumption of guacamole, curry, chives and aquavit.

That sounds like a personal problem.
