It's my old hospital archive clerk/receiver of patients/odd-job monkey job. There's been a few things removed since I left the first time, which is good, because I'm the only one filling a two- or three-person function at the moment. We shall see what we shall see.

Sounds like more fun than my job. They just eliminated styrofoam cups. Can't afford it in the budget.

Joy. oh well....start night school again tonight. FUN!

Nik,

I became a big fan of despair.com a few years ago. They would have some muggage right up your alley, I'm sure. For those unitiated, despair.com specializes in 'demotivational' posters, mugs and calendars. I have their GOVERNMENT ("If you think the problems we create are bad, just wait until you see our solutions.") mug and use this as my desktop at work.

I'm sure you can find something to suit your personal freedom of expression...

most definately. Only problem is that anyone who hangs one up in their mini cubicle gets written up. I'm lucky to get away with a few Dilbert cartoons where mangement can't readily see them.

Are you f'ing kidding me? Freaking fascists.

Lunch time tithe... Blizzard forecast for later today; here's hoping it'll start around 4 o'clock, when I'm home.

Was just commenting to someone yesterday that we certainly got a real winter this year.

It is predicted to go as low as 4 degrees here this week . 4 ! this is in the Southern US. It is a crime against nature I tell you. Yikes.

Crime? Hardly...it's what winter is supposed to be. Cold is good for the soul.

Yes! The ultimate cognitive dissonance! This misery is good for you. It builds character! Kind of like Calvin's dad in "Calvin and Hobbes" of old.

And people wonder why I pretty much refuse to work for corporations. I know it isn't a choice sometimes, but I feel extremely fortunate to have spent my entire career in the private sector.

I thought it might be because i had to ring in the new year by beating the pitbull for eating yet another shirt.

I bet that made a rattling noise as the critter's pea-sized brain bounced off the insides of its thick skull.

I seem to recall that this was a rescue dog, yes? Maybe there was a reason its last owner wanted to get rid of it.

The current owners are now in need of rescue! PB better stay away from my library. Already one book has surcombed to the terror of a PB editor.

Maybe she disagreed with the author? I've now also got an image of Nik sat in a cage at the Seattle Dog Owners Humane Society looking sad

One of our BCs was a rescue dog, her previous owner got rid of her because she chewed stuff. After he'd filed her teeth flat

Nice.

Someone should've filed his brain flat. Assuming of course, it could be found.

It's amazing. When I left, there were 3 people on hand, all trained by me, to perform the function. I'd written a step-by-step manual for every single task they'd have to do, and cleared everything up. I handed the department to them on a silver platter and walked out the door head held high.

Three months later, I walk right back in the door, and I need a freakin' HAZMAT suit and a flamethrower to clear things up. Good Thread!

From the freedom of expression end of things, the Universities where I've worked (Penn, UDel, Wisconsin, UC Davis and Minnesota) haven't been too bad. Natch, they have their internal politics ala the government or private corporations, but I can still-for the most part-express my opinions and thoughts freely.

Just started Volume 3, with Grant's promotion to Lieutenant General and Capo de tutti Capi. It's the audio book, so I listen to it on the train in the morning and afternoon.

Welcome ! So do you live up there in the land of the Grand Ole Opry ?

Yes, the Opry is in Nashville, about 40 miles from me.

Brrrrr, 10 degrees is very cold here. Yeah, I know you guys from the northern climates are used to these temps, but I moved down here from Upstate NY to get away from below freezing temps and 150+ inches of snow a year.

It is fun to watch these ID10Ts drive in snow down here...

The fact that we MIGHT get an inch or so of snow here sends folks to the grocery store to stock up !

Then again we have no real snow equipment so any accumulation of snow and ice creates some traffic snarls.

Yep Tennessee and Fla. are the only two states east of the Mississippi River with no tax on earned income. Sales tax is a bit high though.

Morning guys.

Yesterday was optionnal exam for me; to translate a text from english in french.
Far too easy ! as we use to say "fingers in the nose".
But this is in fact not good: there is a rating of the candidate, and as the text was really easy to handle, it could not give me an upper hand on the others...Results on 5th february.
