ORIGINAL: gladiatt Hi Grollub. And the others threadster too (and as NCSU, i fear to forget some). I knew this thread was great but i couldn't imagine that some people i didn't even know will think of me and my wife when i'm not connected. Thanks to all of you. The news are not good, but it must be "softened" (lack of english translation, sorry ). Surgery to be done before Christmas. Date to be precised with the surgery-doctor, wich is currently in hollidays, so rebdez-vous with him on 7 september. There is a risk during the surgery. There is a possibility to touch the vocal nerve during the surgery: my wife could become mute, or mute for a time (untill she "learn" her voice back), or to change of voice permanently. (my best friend already told me "this way she would not bore you the evening " and as it is my best friend i know it was a joke). And also she will have to make a traitement (damn, i am angry not to have a tanslattor that work on the internet; if someone could help me translate this one ??), and this is with radioactive iode ( to fight the fire by the fire)......wich lead to a strong and long tiring of the body (and the soul); last time she had it, she was tired for a year. Here are the news. No need to comment if you don't want, if you don't know how to do it, but i appreciate even the ankward words . Eric Best of luck and wishes Eric! Thus it is the thyroid gland... it is not uncommon these days and it is cured quite effectively... I had co-worker that had thyroid gland totally removed 1+ years ago and she is more than OK now (much better than before when hormones went "crazy" due to erratic work of the thyroid gland)... the thyroid gland body functions can be 100% covered with adequate pills (even top sportswomen managed to win Olympic gold medals and world championship gold medals without thyroid gland and with pill supplements) - the only caveat is that pills must be taken every day for the rest of the life... Leo "Apollo11" While the Thyroid can make you feel so low as to wish for death, it is something you can recover from. You see in 1976 my thyroid was treated with radioative isotope of iodine. I went from being hyperthyroid (6'2" and 120 pounds) to hypo-thyroid. I was crushed , as I had planned a Naval career. We'll , due to a error I was allowed to enlist in the Navy (USNR) and actually received a waiver for flight training. A year later , on the day that I was supposed take my final checkride and win my Aircrew wings , the Navy discoverd it's mistake. I was taken off flight status, lost my rate , job and hopes as was being discharged. The Navy decided that I would be allowed to stay the rest of my enlistment, but not fly or ever put in for a commission. I spent the next six years doing various crappy odd jobs, but not allowed to fly , or be promoted. Finally I found a enlisted corpsman who was willing to help me put together a "waiver package". This wasn't a normal package , but a "guinea pig waiver". In return for being a "human guniea pig" the Navy let me fly, take the rating exams, and most important win my wings. OK, there were the endless tests and blood giving. And even with that , I knew that I'd have to take those damned pills everyday for the rest of my life, but still I was able to achieve a pretty good percentage of my dreams. I realize that you are going through a very scarey time Eric, and it's an even scarier time for you lady, but with luck, hope and the grace of God, you can get through it. And if whishes and prayers count for anything (and I belive that they do) then know that you have a lot of people sending good hopes, prayers and blessings to you and "miss Gladditt".
