Leo "Apollo11"

Hi Leo.

My legs hurt from yesterday and I really don't want to spend another 5 hours on my bike - but I'm afraid I should use one of the last fine and war days of this year...

Hi Joseph!

5 Eurofighters have just overflew me. Five at one time  I didn't even knew that we have so many  I can't remember I've ever seen more than two fighters at once.
Yesterday, when cycling, a Tornado flew in low lever directly over me comeing from the front of my direction. It wasn't higher than about 200-300m. Great! I even got a gooseflesh despite 27° C.
Once more I regretted not takeing the chance to sit in one of these things myself, now...

Speaking of intentional misunderstandings, here's a favorite of mine from IRC (taken from http://www.bash.org/?top)

Pfft. Who'd want to be a pilot? It's over-rated anyway, being an erk is where it's at

Fast jets don't interest me either, although they're preferable to helicopters.

(damn internet not flowing correctly...)

When i was a little boy, i dreamed of being an F4U Corsair pilot, thanks to Robert Conrad as Papy Boyington.
A little farther, as a teen, i was offered a helicopter ride (in a Puma), but it wasn't fun. And then, 4 years ago, my brother took me and Miss Gladiatt in a small plane (a Robin, for those who know). I was glad to put my feet back on earth, and i don't even tell you about the color of Miss Gladiatt

Torsten, how much time you have to prepare for IM? Do you consider buying "home" bike or you will try preparing only outside?

14 Months left, but I'm going to do two Ironman 70.3s in May and August.
I'll recieve the trainer from my neighbour who doesn't need it to be able to train at home when the weather is too harsh - but I intend to ride outside as often as possible. As we said in the Army: "Who's freezing is too poor or too stupid"
I also bought a MTB for the winter as I'm too afraid to go cycling in snowy conditions with my racing bike.
I also have a membership card for a local gym with several spinning bikes, but I doubt I can cycle more than max. an hour there as it gets too boring seeing always the same.

It'll defenitely be really hard to keep up the training between November and March. I gained 10kg last winter in this period and lost all of my good fitness I had before. So I really MUST be on the bike at least twice a week.

Welcome aboard, Aces.

From your few posts, you seem like a chap who doesn't take himself too seriously. You should fit in quite nicely around here.

Winter, unless you have an important early Spring race, is the season to just maintain your fitness level. 3 or 4 workouts each week will be plenty during that time. A hint for the indoor trainer is to pick out several good movies and watch one while you ride. You sure don't need to do 5 hour bike trainer rides to maintain. Also, give one of the "spin classes" at your gym a try. They usually only go for an hour, usually have some great eye candy, and are almost guaranteed to kick your butt.

As I preach from my comfy chair, coffee in hand, and about 12 kilos heavier than when I was doing my triathlons I'm trying to keep the motivation I have from Sunday's 5k run. I'm packing a gym bag and running at lunch today.

Edit: .... and good morning, Torsten.

That was indeed the plan
But I have to expand my fitness during winter, too. I want a good cycling time and when the weather is flat, I hope for an average speed of +35 km/h.

I agree. I'd rather be an aviator than a pilot. And you don't really fly a helicoper. You kinda herd it. (Trying to get 50,000 parts flying in loose formation to all go in the same general direction!).
