Hi all,

Another day of above +35 degrees Centigrade here...

The nights were never cooler than +25 degrees Centigrade - it is the highest we ever had (since measurements started 200+ years ago)...

Not so bad around here at the moment, but that's due to a change in wind direction. It's supposed to switch back to warm and sticky mode early next week.

In SoCal it has sucked big time all early summer. Lots of overcast, unseasonably cool, high winds from odd directions, and rain -yes, rain in June, and for days; thought I was in frikkin Seattle. And now, a week ago, the fronts turned, and we are sweltering in a forever el nino Santa Ana: hot, stinking humid, no breeze at all, can't sail, and goddam fleas are all over the dog and that pisses me off. Maybe I should write to my Congressman, who will (no doubt) make it all better.

I think your irony gland has atrophied a bit. I suggest a treatment course of watching James Garner "Support your Local 'whatever'"movies. Whackin Ms Orr's whorehouse is just a small process.

we spent the morning (until it got too flippin' hot) cutting down dead bamboo in the backyard. (the stuff died during one of our many freezes this last winter) I am exhausted. Bamboo is tough stuff.

It is. That's why they make everything except condoms out of it.

Oh, I can find it on a map. North of Schleswig and south of Gothenburg. A bit west of Riga and East of Anglia.

But I just have this funny feeling my calls wouldn't be returned.

I sure hope you don't use those directions for your upcoming trip to Africa.

No sir, those are my directions to T-land. I'll let South African airlines take me to Africa.

Did you know that buying plane tickets in early June for Africa when the World Cup is being held there is like getting fleeced by the mob? Just saying...

Seriously, if any of my Thread brothers would care to contribute in that mundane resource called money to my trip, it would be greatly appreciated. PM me and I'll tell you how. I'm not one to ask for money, but this has been a struggle this year for that reason. Almost 2 grand a ticket for 15 folks is a chunk of geld.

And we'd appreciate the prayers of any of you praying types, religion notwithstanding. It's a hard thing for Westerners in this area no matter what the intent. We are there to provide these folks with care they can't get in their country. The appreciation my wife saw last summer was both heart-warming and heart-breaking. So much poverty and need.

A couple of my friends live in San Diego and they said they should just come back to Massachusetts so they could enjoy summer
