I was trying to set up a june/46 battle between comm chinese and nat chinese on my lan here at the house. Instead of letting each player buy and deploy I had the computer do both.

For some reason the purchase is wacked, (I would guess that those oobs have been changed without regard to purchase slots).

The computer bought the nationalists 15 platoon hq but no normal squads to go with them, the coms got no infantry at all, and didn't spend anywhere near all their points so they must have been buying phantom units.

After the coms were routed, I started looking at what the computer bought, the nationalists spent nearly all their points, the coms only spent about 1/2. Then I started looking at what each side "could" buy. With only 200 pts available the coms got only an hq unit, the nationalists got a couple of howitzers, a couple of aa guns and some platoon hq along with the hq.

Ok I think, the nationalists are cheap enough due to true troop cost on with their low exp they can buy all that, but then I try to buy it myself, and find that I can't afford all that the comp bought.

Anyone playing low experiance forces might think twice about letting the computer buy the forces, and especially with com chinese.
thanks, John.

Try about 1200 - 2000 pts each.

John:

Quirkiness in the battle generator is not limited to low experience troops. I once played a Soviet vs Germand (Human vs Comp, in that order) where the German comp bought only mortars and artillery. This wasn't a small battle either (I think medium map size was selected).
However, out of the many times I've had Soviet vs Germany random generated battles, this is the only time where the AI's choice of forces seemed extremely strange.

Someone posted a suggestion to turn rarity off. Since the AI has pre-set purchases it can't select 'alternate' units if its primary choices are unavailable. To keep the playing field level the human player should buy a balanced force also.

I never play with rarity on when the computer is buying anything. It was supposed to be a quick pick with the ai doing the buying and deploying for both sides, it just didn't work out the way it normally does for the more common forces.
thanks, John.

I NEVER let the AI pick it's/my forces anymore!!! I was playing a guy from the Blitz wargaming club, and he wanted to let the AI pick our forces, for a more "historical" balance. Being as I helped with the oob's very much, I didn't think this was a good idea, but let him anyway, for ****s and giggles, what a disaster!! I was Hungary, it bought no less than 50+ tankettes, and at least 30 ATR teams, what a crock!!! Just say no!! Unless later teams were let in on the secret, I worked on the oob's for over a year, and was never told the AI pick numbers, so that will tell you something, only the bigger nations seem to be half squared away with the picks. Don't even try it with Bulgaria....:(
