Hummmmm, the uniform talking looks just like Popeye's nemesis, Bluto. The entourage looks like a bunch of DC bureaucrats (Bureau of the Navy, Torpedo Ordinance Div).

I thought it was the captain from the TinTin.

One can never have too much "company of women", but some damn computer wargame published in England seems to occupy much of my time these days ... and nights too - at my age sleeping eight hours at a stretch is rare so I pester the working class online as a break from playing the game.

***************Sonar Room, USS Cassin, 20 mi NNE Darwin, 08:20, Jan. 2, 1942(c)****************

Sonarman 1st Class Peabody: Chief, come listen to this <hands over headphones>

Chief: <listening....hears low pitched "mmmmmmmmmmmm:> Peabody! That's 60 cycle, damn it!

Sonarman 1st Class Peabody: Yes, that is what I thought at first too. But it's intermittent and non-random.

Chief: Peabody, you are supposed to be looking for Jap subs. It's probably the hot plate in the galley again. Maybe the cook turned it off because the coffee was hot. Did you think about that?

Sonarman 1st Class Peabody: Sure, that's what they WANT us to think.

Chief: What do you mean, they?

Sonarman 1st Class Peabody: I'm not really sure chief, but there is an intelligence behind this. The signal is pulsatile and the time of the pusles are perfectly proportional to the first 4 Mersenne Primes so far.

Chief: <listens again and hears the same "mmmmmmmmmmmmm"> It doesn't sound "pulsating" to me, Peabody.

Sonarman 1st Class Peabody: Right, that because of the proportionality, Chief. The 5th Mersenne is large number.

Chief: How large is that, Peabody?

Sonarman 1st Class Peabody: Well, if I am right, this signal will last about 4 1/2 months.

Chief: GODDAMNIT PEABODY! I TOLD YOU TO STOP READING THAT JULES VERNE CRAP! JUST LISTEN FOR THE GODDMAN JAP SUBS BEFORE THEY FIRE A TORPEDO UP YOUR ASS! <turns to leave...then stops and turns to another sailor> Kowalski, make sure Peabody gets laid when we get back to Sydney. I'll pay for it.

Thanks to service on C130s, I have hearing damage and tinnitis so I hear ringing in my ears all the time; will the Chief pay for my getting laid too??

I think the point is that Sonarman 1st Class Peabody is quite interested in technical matters and is....well.....not yet accustomed to the company of women, if you get my drift.

Is there something you want to tell us?

Depends...will the Chief pay if i say?

*****************40 fathoms underwater, 20 mi NNE Darwin, 08:25, Jan. 2, 1942(c)*****************

<We see the interior of a large craft composed of carefully machined surfaces of an arsenic-carbon-vanadaium alloy. The design is fantastically unergonomic and, to tell you the truth, is not even that aesthetic either. I am pretty sure that the race which designed this craft has no gays..or Italians either. A large, grey-green trident shaped hand perhaps 18 in in length adjusts an apparent control lever. At the end of each digit is a thick protective covering of hardened hair which is covered by a vile green-brown muck that smells of...well...frankly it smells like **** because it is. I mean, you would think an advanced race like this could devise a better strategy to get waste product off their hind quarters, but, there you have it. The room reverberates with a loud "MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM">

Chief: GODDAMNIT Wortj#esqrxx! Can't you fix that damn 60 cycle? It's drivng me nuts.

Helmsamn First Rate Wortj#esqrxx: Workin' on it, Chief.

Cripes, Mandrake, even back in the 70's a lousy $5 wouldn't get you in the door of a "Social Club" in Olongapo or Gate 2 Street/Kadena.

Up the ante, big spender!

Just wait...I have only begun to explore.

The 2 v 2 has turned into a 1 v 0. Admirar Rord Nerson has been abducted by the viscious Pueblo band. Admirar Rord Fabertong is doing pennance or some such thing and Admiral Lord SPrior is off to the Piltdown Man Reenactors Annual Convention in Sussex...or maybe it's Wessex...or is it Nossex. I forget.

So, anyway, I had to take Stalker Girl in for her pre-op exam and the doc orders an ECG. So I wheel her upstairs and there are two LVN's (female) and SG and me in the room and the first LVN asks:

Any allergies?

No

Have you had an ECG here before?

No

Your present weight?

And then...there is a sudden jolt of tension in the room. The second LVN looks toward me with alarm and the first one stops working on the computer and then they all 3 look at me like I am the pizza delivery guy at the Pentagon during the Bin Laden raid.

General Turgidson: Right, any sign of an air defense system alert in Pakistan? If this gets out early we are seriously ******.

Me: OK, who ordered the deep dish with the works, hold the anchovies?

I had this precocious 3 year old tell me today:

3 year old: Ooh, I like your hair"

Me: Oh, you like the new blonde highlights?

3 year old: uh..huh. <said with perfect inflection and finely-honed feigned sincerity>

Her parents laughed till they were red in the face. She probably heard her mom say it 500 times in that fake female way so she just adopted it. Even so, it was funnier than Hell and I love that kid. She might have said "you smell like my grandpa" or something....but she didn't so I love that kid. I find it oddly disquieting but you can pretty much tell by age 3-4 who is going to be one of the in crowd and who is going to be playing on-line wargames on prom night.

Darwin/Bathurst/Saumlaki: True to form, JJ tried a night surface raid on the helpless ships at Saumlaki trying to unload dozers and shore guns. The baaahsterds!

Night Time Surface Combat, near Saumlaki at 78,117, Range 5,000 Yards

Japanese Ships
CL Tama
DD Teruzuki
DD Kawakaze, Shell hits 2

Allied Ships
CA Portland, Shell hits 2
CL Detroit
DD Nicholas
DD O'Bannon
DD Duncan
DD Bailey
DD Sims
DD Helm
DD Henley, Shell hits 2

The LYB's get their T-crossed, fight to a draw and wisely withdraw. The Arried TF CO, Adm. Blevins, has spine because somebody set the rheostat in his neck to "High Threat Tolerance". So they stay on station. Next up is an ammo-eater taffy of 2 DD's that were probably supposed to arrive first.

Allied radar has them coming in from 23K yds, Blevins crosses the T again...but his boys can't shoot straight. Even so, mission accomplished. JJ retreats.

Night Time Surface Combat, near Saumlaki at 78,117, Range 5,000 Yards

Japanese Ships
DD Yugiri
DD Tadeyame

Allied Ships
CA Portland, Shell hits 1
CL Detroit, Shell hits 1

That's why I didn't write "online" ... and yes, I'd might rather been at home setting up a SL scenario instead.

Darwin/Bathurst/Saumlaki:

Meanwhile Colorado and Maryland do what they are good at. Quite a few damaged airframes or gorunded planes on the ground. I think you can fly off repaired planes from a 100% damaged airfield but I'm not sure about that.

Ki-43-Ic Oscar: 2 destroyed on ground
Ki-30 Ann: 2 damaged

And for the record, I went to my senior prom.

Of course I was the only guy there without a date, including the class computer ultra-geek.

Darwin/Bathurst/Saumlaki:
(Cont.) Suns comes up. Unescorted Helens appear over Saumlaki. I think the CAP had trouble reaching them as the carriers are 40 mi East.

Morning Air attack on 503rd Parachute Regiment, at 78,117 (Saumlaki)

Then there comes an anti-shipping attack on Belvin's taffy. Not sure where these boys came from. Ambon maybe? Probably Kopeang is too far for the Ann and/or Nick. Looks a bit like JJ is beginning to scrape the barrel.
