The LYB's probably haven't the slightest notion they might have stepped in the Impala scat.

So I am getting on this elevator today by myself and as I enter the phone rings. I was oddly excited to be so important so, as the door closes, I go to answer it. Just as the door closes I have an epiphany.

I think to myself. "Wait a minute! That either has to be the fire department calling to give me a citation for playing with the fire call button (I swear I didn't do it) OR it is some crazy extortionist with a remote control bomb in the elevator shaft. Maybe I shouldn't answer?..................You idiot, just pick up the phone and quit being such a limp wrist".

I pick it up. No explosion. It was my almuni association looking for money.

My wife has been missing calls on her cell phone for the past few weeks from someone from Arizona... she finally decided to call them (but no one answered, and there was no answering device).

Tonight at dinner, she got another call from the same number and she answered it... it was some old lady trying to call her niece (whom she said had "tried to call a few days ago, but didn't leave a message"). She (the old lady from Arizona) kept insisting that my wife's number was her niece's number, and that she had called her several times... my wife finally said "Well, did you ever reach her?"

Old lady: "As a matter of fact... no...."

They continued to chat for several more minutes...

An opportunity missed. Think of all the fun (and mischief) she might have had pretending to be the niece. The next Thanksgiving dinner would have been a laugh riot (or a food fight).

Actually, my WIFE's niece was sitting next to my wife during this conversation ... both her niece and i were mystified about the length of this obviously wrong number... my suggestion (later*) was for my wife to have told the old lady "No, your niece is not here, but you can talk to my niece" and they handed over the phone to the confused niece, and watch the hilarity...

EDIT: *at the time, i had no idea what was going on, especially since my wife (mis)identified the call (before she answered it) as coming from the alarm company... misidentification and FOW pertains to everyday life, i guess.

Big day in the air. The transport bait plan over Norfolk paid off bigtime and the AVG squadron and P-39's at NRD/Katherine put upa good fight.

I've been trying to pitch an idea for an update of Twelve Angry Men. To reflect modern juries it would be called Twelve Angry Postal Workers.

Maybe I could get the Ojibwa to do it.

NRD coastal defences completely intact, rested and 100% prepped. Maybe the CO of Emery Fortress could use a vacation but this could really be ugly (for them) if the LYB's land at NRD.

According to Lord Admiral Sprior, they have not reconned at all, presumably to not show their hand...but still. Owing to the lack of recon (and to the heroic stand of Captain Joost and the RNN/RN DD force) the bombardment of NRD was completely ineffectual (bagging only 2 planes on the ground)

They did a nice job of approaching without detection, and I did make a mistake by moving some of the P-39's to attack Wyndham...but still. Now they are down an escort carrier, two of their capital ships are dented and there is no more bombardment ammo. Even worse, they may not know Lord Admiral Sprior has 2/3rd a division of Pongoes there.

In my game I expected my opponent to land astride Darwin and march in. He thought there was an HR against it (isn't), so he went right in. Maybe they'll think they're supposed to land at, ah, NRD?

What does NRD stand for, anyway, New Rondon?

NRD=New Rourke's Drift.

Unless Lord Admiral Sprior arranged something, I don't think we specified any special rule about non-dot hexes either. They could, I suppose, be headed for the dot hex at Bathurst Is. NE of NRD. That would certainly be a suffocating air base but it would be hard to land there and build it up right under the nose of NRD. Air recon shows a bunch of APD's in the transport force. Who knows if it is correct but that is no way to land a couple of divisions.

Remember that I provide the Japanese player perspective here since that's all I ever play. Like yellow jackets here in the south, when you see one LYB land on your picnic basket, you can be sure there are hordes buzzing your way right behind them.

No turn yet from the Empire. This could mean one of two things:

1) A great victory was won by the Aliies and the Empire is struggling to shepherd their damaged fleet to safety

or

2) Admiral Yamamoto's washer overflowed and Mrs. Yamamoto made him get out the shop vac and mop to clean it up

Check this out. The Jap transports that were headed ESE toward NRD apparently made a hard right and are disembarking at Wyndham. It seems the signal from the Great Manitou suffered from some kind of interference, or the Japs, realizing that their plan had been discovered, retreated to Wyndham. The codebreaker chaps are working on it now.

The Jap carriers (or perhaps Kaga only) are about 120 mi. NE of Wyndham.

Somebody put some brandy in the morning coffee urn at Katherine aerodrome because 3 Hudson pilots attacked (AND HIT) a Jap AK.

No CAP over Wyndham today. I think the runway is over 50% cratered. Time to kill some planes on the ground.

**************May 1, New Scotland**************

Looks like the Jap carriers are back. I think they swung Westard and Southward through the recon void in the Coral Sea and are now about 300 Mi NW of Norfolk. The weather is very bad and recon is limited.

An apparent carrier raid of 17 Zeroes and 9 Vals were intercepted by 18 P-39'ds and P-40's from Norfolk. 3 Jap planes were shot down with no hits on shipping.

New Perth was hit heavily by 3 separate bombardments which included Fuso and 9 cruisers! When the sun came up, the LYB's came out of their trenches. The recent Allied reinforcments were timely. The Japs only achieved 1:4 and suffered heavy casualties and disruption.

The cause of the failure of the A-24's at New Edinburgh to attack has been found. Some idiot in the chain of command gave them orders for Naval Search only.

I imagine the Japanese high command is getting a bit frustrated at the serial failures to take New Perth. They probably dont know we only have 2-3 weeks of supply left (unless I clear out the airfields). The carriers will make it almost impossible to get supplies in without a titanic carrier duel. I figured it wasn't goin gto be that easy.

The rust bucket TF will try to close on Norfolk and attract more Jap carrier planes under the cover of USAAF air. RN carrier TF and surface groups refueling Wellington. USN carriers still a ways out.

2 separate US subs fired 10 torps at Fuso. I don't have the strength to watch the replay and see how many were dud hits.

Reminds of the scene from Star Wars original where Solo comes screaming around the corner only to run into a mass of stormtroopers.

I believe the hard right was to pick up an extra pair of brown pants at Wyndham.
