Next up is an update for RN destroyers, with the influx of ships from Europe in 45' this is a whole bunch of ships with some beautiful badges in there. For those interested in ship badges, take a look at the Readme's included in all RN updates, there is some beautiful work to be found there.

...I think you're referring to "Complete guide to USN Medals, Badges and Insignia ...". However Amazon lets you take a look at some pages and the table of contents show that there are at most 4 pages on ship identification badges (if it's not some other kind of identification badge), so it's won't have many examples that could be used for the game.
Yes that's the one I had in mind. There's another interesting title by Paul H. Silverstone (The Navy of World War II, 1922-1947 (U.S. Navy Warship)) but it's unclear whether it containes any badges at all, I need to enquire.
To my knowledge the earlier packs for RN DD only included the ones arriving early in the war, this new pack also includes all late arriving DD. Some of the older badges were replaced to give a more consistent style. I'll also have to thank Dixie for this one, as I may or may not have used some of his badges (they are nearly identical at 70x70 due to using the same source and I lost track when changing computers)

Thanks, some interesting hints. I'm mainly looking for online sources though, would make it a lot easier to make the badges out off. At the moment I'm assuming most ships never had any (official) badges. For cruisers I might do something similar as for the battleships (use something from the cities coat of arms). For other ships I'm not yet sure if anything will get done soon. Still lots of work on the RAN which has some pretty good sources and my source for RN isn't dry yet either.
A bit of an eclectic set this time with different miscellaneous ship types. Notice that not all of these badges are necessarily historically correct (see the included ReadMe for details), but they will look good in your game.
Sorry smeulders, small glitch in your last set of badges. SHP_4441 is USS Herald. HMS Herald is SHP_11192. Keep up your great work!
Thanks for pointing that out. I had caught a similar mistake for "Athene", but Herald managed to slip past. The file has been changed in my original post.
And with this batch we're nearly finished with the RN. Note that this pack isn't really for those insisting on perfect historic accuracy. These ships did not receive their official badges until after the end of WWII. 2 ships never received an official badge, so I designed those myself, details are in the readme. If all you're looking for is to make the game better looking, then this is for you.

I've exhausted all of my avenues to discover these patches to no avail So I,ve moved on to create some patches For the BB's as described by Naval History & Heritage Command (NHHC) using the state seals. I would like to know what you all think about the following examples reproduced at 60 x 60 as in game?
They look like some very fine work actually. Where did you find the descriptions of the badges ? I recall that I searched trough the NHHC site briefly, but I couldn't find anything there.

I found a link to the naval Heraldry site and then on to their archives section, there i was able to piece together the general outline of how they made up the variuos crests for the ships during WWII.

These crests are NOT HISTORICAL, they have been made up using the State Seals for the corresponding States for the ships names. USE FOR YOUR OWN ENJOYMENT
Thanks, do you have any plans to do the Cruisers as well ? I might do those using the city seals, but if you're doing them I might move back to the RAN.

Set 002 Version 2: US Army - Part 1 of 3
Complete WITP-AE Rotating Art set for US Army aircraft updating from the red centered insignia to white star insignia to the Red bordered Star&Bar to the Blue/White Stars&Bars in Oct'43. Note aren't many items of new side art though all planes now have revolving top art. I am still deficient in silver birds so there may have tobe a version 3 sometime in the future.
This download superscedes the previous Rotating Aircraft Art Set002.
Please note that I am only repackaging this artwork to the rotating art format. The artistic credit is fully due to Cathartes (though there are a few modified ones in the mix)!!
To get the best out of this artwork you should have Cathartes' AE planetops installed as well. They can be downloaded from http://www.turkeyvulturesart.info/downloads.htm on Cathartes' Accurate Air Site ==============================================================
The index to the rest of the Aircraft Rotating Art is is here....
To make things easy, just unzip this distribution into your AE game folder (after making sure the "use folders" option is set. The zip file includes the Art directory.
To verify correct installation, just load the Guadalcanal scenario. As this is set in Aug'42, the US Army aircraft sideart should have updated to the Blue/White insignia. Load the Downfall scenario and the Blue/White Stars&Bars insignia should be use.
