Tracker reports the Yamato sunk by a mk12 mine. probably out of action for 3 months. Urban legend (according to my local game buddies) has it that the yamato is so large it clears its own path thru mine fields and can absorb mine hits w/ the blister hull.

edit:I can find no combat report to the above report

43jun10:

I used an amphib Tf w/ APAs to unload at terapo.  I worked late and stayed up late to make a turn for FatR.  My intent was to pull the Tf off Terapo last turn.  i did not hit the stop unload button and will probably lose two APAs. Looks like FatR has moved another air flotilla into the Rabaul area.

past three turns I have shelled the hell out of Lunga/tulagi and reinforced supply at kiri w/ no IJN response.

43jun10:  Saw weak cap over rabaul and used a long range b24 port strike from Horn island to shake up FatR. I sense a FatR weakness, he does not like his toys getting hurt.

Japanese Ships
BB Kirishima, Bomb hits 8, on fire
CA Mikuma, Bomb hits 1
AV Kimishima Maru, Bomb hits 2, on fire
BB Hiei, Bomb hits 3
xAK Manzyu Maru, Bomb hits 1, on fire
CA Maya, Bomb hits 1

Daily air war grind, betties nailed an undamaged APA at horn is.My second string fighter defense will not stand up to first line IJA fighter escort.

I have noted that FatR is fixated on lil andaman as hitler was focused on Stalingrad.  majority of his ftr sqns plus 70% of active bomber forces seem concentrated in the maya peninsula area.  This has allowed me to wear down IJAAF units working the soloman/NG theatre.  I am surprised at the lack of air cover over Lunga/tulagi.

i suspect my buildup of fuel/supply is having effect on enemy as I keep moving from one Sopac/swpac operation into the next w/out any lag in tempo.  I note if I give a lag to FatR he has time to make a fix, so my intent is to continue forward press as this does not allow FatR time to regroup.

Tactically i have noticed my CL/5xDD SAG are very fast, can avoid betties, and seem to cause alot of damage if caught in a night fight.  So I have pulled my BB/CA units from all forward amphib ops in the Sopac area.

At The terapo landing my units went ashore w/out good prep but the hex was not garrisoned.

Around Sopac I have about 2/3 SAGs, did have about 6 but we had a big battle earlier...I was looking at my ship reinforcements and noted I get 2xCLs and 10xDDs every month for the rest of the war.

What were the pilot skills on the B24's like that hit Rabaul? Does a port strike use NavB or GndB (I'd assume NavB).

Both Port and Airfield strikes use Ground skill. In both instances you are hitting fixed facilities located on terra firma.

Well, she probably hit a mine anyways. The MK 12 is about as powerful as a long lance, so you probably put a sizeable dent in her hull. Maybe 3-6 months in the yard.....

This has never been my experience in China. The Japanese don't see to have many supply problems at all unless they are not shipping enough to the costal ports.

Lil Andaman has fallen to the IJA.  A sad depressing day for the Commonwealth.  For some time I was out of supply.  I read on the threads that it only takes one point of supply for a unit to fight full strenght.  So I loaded all the subs in the area w/ supply transport and started a continuous feed.  On the last attack I did not have  a sub in port unloading.....I was also flying 18 catalinas per turn into L.A., all seemingly to no avail.  The brit 18th/AUS 7th were both non upgraded divisions.

round combat at Little Andaman (44,59)

As requested, yellow is single digit. i felt the results to be good..26 planes---16 known hits...61% hit rate per plane. Or is it figured 16x5=96x500lb bombs 16/96=16% of all bombs droped found a target.

Thanks Bigred- and to you as well Alfred. I thought I'd need to be training my heavy bombers in NavB as well to have a chance of catching my opponent in a port strike- good to know that's not necessary.

Cheers,

Daniel

In other news one Bombardment FT each where ordered to Munda/Milni while an amphib group will land at Rossell this turn.   Possibility of Jap naval air catching my 2 CVE cap covering force, but I expect the IJN to return to Rabaul.

2nd time I have seen FatR bring a BB TF w/in my bomber range.  These TFs just sit next to his base w/ local CAP.  Got 3x500lb hits on a Kongo class BB but did not score too good in the air war.

Just bait?

I am not sure. The range is 7 and the TBF has a torp range of 6 so..
I had 2 sqns of TBFs set to range 8 @kira and off they went into attack w/AP bombs and about 6 f6fs escort...so i reduced the range to 6 and dont expect FatR to come into range w/out LRCAP. I felt like he did this 3 times on purpose. No problem w/me, I will have to be careful.

3xFish in the Krish:

After last turn I expected FatR to realize I had TBFs at Kira.  Never in my wildest dreams did I expect The BB SAG at Munda to move south w/out LRCAP. SoPac has a new mission---insure these BBs do not return to Japan.

BB Kirishima, Bomb hits 3, Torpedo hits 2, on fire
Heavy smoke from fires obscuring BB Kirishima

My nearest SAG is located at Ndendi.  CL/6xDD.  I am surprised the CVLs in that TF did not fly CAP.  I would bet they are all set to Escort.  Nt sure.  Time to unload my PT reserve at Kira.  A PT pursuit TF..HaHa
