Not having AI is a cop out, which is why I wont buy this game (I want more scenarios, expansions etc etc). I was a supporter of SSG games (hell just look at my avatar) until their support dried up. I dont have time for PBEM or the want to do that. They need to go back to supporting their releases like in the Korsun Pocket - Battles In Normandy days

The things that hurt this series:

Screen resolution is horrible. Even I can play winSPWW2 (Windows Steel Panthers) in larger resolutions and that is an old DOS game converted to Windows by Shrapnel

Lack of pop up descriptions in the interface

SSG not willing to improve the interface or the in game options.

No word from the developers on any progress for scenarios?

I've got Kharkov but the lack of response to your questions is keeping me from buying ATD at the moment

I wouldn't bother getting ATD at the price that it at now. Just save your money and get WitE... I wish I did.
The support for this add-on is horrible. Its sad, but all good things come to an end.

Maybe they should just discount their games by 75% and build up a new fan base.

I don't understand how you don't have time for pbem games but can fit in time against the AI. You know that in a pbem secure game that you can exit out of the program and then go back and pick up where you left off? In my opinion pbem is the only way to go, much tougher than AI. I agree that SSG needs to add some more "meat" to their games but I assume they are a struggling like everyone else. The editor is included with the game so if anyone wants to create another scenario it is possible although very hard work.
I purchased WITE and am trying to understand it; i'll bet that the AI will be a pushover as soon as players have had the time to really understand the game, it is so huge that there is no way to program a real challenge to human play.
I really don't understand why more people have not tried SSG games. The Demo of TAO in battle of Normandy gives a good taste of what to expect. SSG games take awhile to understand and in the world that we live in now instant gratification seems to be the in thing.
I would like to improved interface, these eyes are not getting any younger!!

I don't want instant gratification, just fix the tutorial, and give us some scenarios (like they told us in the beginning of developing this engine). I don't have time or inclination for PBEM games, and don't want the responsibility/accountability of playing a game with someone.

Just some more scenarios pretty please, or at best, a response that they are forthcoming. If not, then have the politeness to tell me this engine is done.

SSG has been quiet since 2009, there has been a major communication failure that they've thus far not compensated for. Even I, one of their testers, don't really have an idea of what they're doing now aside from knowing what they intend to release next, but I don't know when they'll release it. The SSG forums seem to grow more quiet every year, sadly.

Scenarios are being worked on, but it takes time. My own scenario conversion plans have been put on hold in August due to WitE testing consuming my spare time together with the BiI/BiN PBEM's I have going.

I have to say, this is very strange. And such a good game it is. Award winning. How could the developers just fade away in the shadows?

They posted something early Jan, about CAW on the SSG forums, if I recall correctly. They must be mad at us or something.

They post in threads with technical questions rather quickly normally, but in no other threads.

My fav way to play is PBEM

If I can download a turn, play it and send it all within 30 mins I hjave happy to play a PBEM game.

But ATD 2 is a big scenario so I am not interested.

I take it that SSG ceased to exist, or at least is not interested anymore in further development of this series.

They don't seem to be commenting on much of anything these days. I read more posts from Eric on other forums then here.

SSG is still developing new product.
Currently playtesting is underway for new engine changes and sceanarios.
I spend a fair bit of time PBEMing with Roger - I have to say, their next game looks to be awesome.
Roger seems pretty busy at the moment with life, sometimes what you want to do has to take a back seat for a while.

For myself I can say that Guadalajara is pretty much finished and my Napoleonic conversion is now in its final stages. I'm at least happy I'll always have a game engine that lets me make my own wargames in the style I like. I'm always happy to share what I've done in the interest of keeping support for the engine up.

I would like to see the run 5 website better maintained with those things people seem to like. Like ladders, tournaments, demo games and tutorials and a place to post new scenarios etc. I think this would go a long way to boosting SSG's profile and its something they should do in house.
cheers
pete

Thanks Pete AU, this is great news. I was getting worried that SSG was going away on us.

SSG needs to gin things up a little.

Me too, but reckon you'll need a "bring back robjess" campaign for that....

I am more interested in hearing from the developers of these games every once and awhile. But obviously they can't be bothered to give their base players updates. Once every 3 months is not being unreasonable.

The tutorial is still broke...

Telling me to uninstall the game and reinstall the first game, play the tutorial, and the install ATD2 is unacceptable. I uninstalled the whole game. I will come back to it, if SSG ever decides to support it, or at least post here regularly giving us timely updates as to progress or lack of progress. I don't care, just keep us informed as to what they are doing.

Well finally moved off the New Game section.

Slowly riding off into the sunset. It could have been a contender with just a little bit of caring and nuturing.

Since the SSG ladder seems very quiet, let me suggest another site to find PBEM opponents. The Blitzkrieg Wargaming Club has a ladder (Classic Wargames) that is still active, with people who play SSG's The Ardennes Offensive, Korsun Pocket, Battles in Normandy, Battles in Italy. If enough interest is shown they will likely add Kharkov to the list as well. Meanwhile you can post there for a game request and report your played games that are currently on their list.

Here is the link:

An update to my last post.

At the Blitz we have now changed the name of the Classic Wargames (CW) ladder and forum to SSG Decisive Battles.

http://www.theblitz.org/message_boards/forumdisplay.php?fid=9

I will be entering scenario information in the near future for those who want to report PBEM Kharkov games. Korsun Pocket, Battles in Normandy and Battles in Italy already have most scenarios entered (including user created scenarios).
