One last thing.

My plan was to start saving PP and upgrade my Armor and Guns but with the Hungarians and Romanians joining me and their war-footing being at 60% I have to start raising that instead especially since i cant get any reinforcements to help them any time soon.

we did one bombing run on Belgrade with 1 squadron of 5 of the new BF-109f's and 5 HE111's.

well the 109f was vastly superior to the E or even the spitfire, it had impressive range amazing speed if they had them at the battle of Britain it might have been a completely different outcome so the results dont really surprise me what was their experience level?

the hurricanes and the other fighters would be no match for the f the spitfires could have done decently against the f but they'd still be outclassed, i am surprised more bombers didn't go down just due to the numbers though, i guess maybe his spits went for your fighters

well normally when you escort bombers your fighters take a beating so i was surprised that I didn't lose more in this fight. And in this scenario the 109f's are pretty even with the spitfire mk v's maybe just a little bit better overall. The allies should have a American fighter the p40 warhawk I think it is that is real close to the 109f's

The 109F was better in all respects to the Spitfire I & II, about equal to the V, and considerably worse than the VIII and IX.

Yeah - and if the Brits had had Meteors in France in 1940 the whole question might never have come up in the first place.....etc., etc...;)

The reason for the air battle result in the attack on Belgrade might be that I have set the fighters to no-intercept. I was sure they would get down when the Luftwaffe does its first recon flights. When attacking the town directly they might have come into battle. But I am wondering why no falk is listed in battle result. So it seems as if it was only fighter intercept, that caused the German losses.

As told before I will deploy only the SFTs that were historically present. So no P40 Warhawk in France or Britain. They have to manage the situation relying on their own abilities. In Yugoslavia the Hurricane was placed from the beginning and I will have a look what kind of SFTs I can produce there.

Thats cool bro.

But 140 P40's where shipped to great Britain in 1940 these where ordered by France but France fell before they could be shipped so they where sent to England. They where also used heavily in North Africa where they performed very well in a air superiority role.

Since you are using only Historical planes should I have waited before I upgraded my air force ? I did wait until you upgraded yours first.

I said I will use only the SFTs historically used by the nations. I have told nothing about upgrades. Prepare to meet some Spitfires X and Hawker Tempest, as I made second air tech upgrade a turn ago and have now deployed the first new fighters.

The 140 Tomahawk I's obtained ex-France were considered unfit for combat - they lacked armour protection for hte pilot, armoured windscreens and self-sealing tanks, and AFAIK they were only ever used for training.

Later Tomahawks gave good service in Nth Africa and also in the Pacific with the RNZAF - but the Allison engine only had a single stage supercharger that was no effective above 15,000 feet, so it was mainly used a fighter bomber rather than an interceptor.  Pilots considered it as good as a 109F below 15,000 feet, but quickly outclassed above it.

Famously the Allison was replaced in the P-51 by a Merlin to create one of the great a/c of the war, and Allison engined P-51's suffered the same altitude problems as Tomahawks did.

once the engine was replaced in early 1942 its altitude problems where no longer a issue. It performed very well in all theaters of the war.

My only point was that the p40 was in England in late 1940 and did see some service. as for the rest I cant argue about what plane was the best etc... because I don't know that much about it, you guys know much more than me.

This turn and the last turn have been the most intense for me so far in this campaign and i spent hours doing them both. The unexpected addition of the war in the Balkans has caused me great concern.

The Yugoslavians have started to advance into Hungry.

They have a stronger army than the Hungarians and remember the only assets I have to help out are air power and the airborne regiments.

So back to France and Belgium while my generals decide what to do with Yugoslavia.

first a look at France and you can see that the 14th Panzer is starting its long journey east to its new assignment. While the 1st army has spread out across France.

the 1oth Panzer and 7th Infantry push into Belgium from the south while the 5th Army is pushing west into the Netherlands.
As you can see the Belgium have a surprisingly strong army.

we pushed hard but didn't get as far as we had hoped and took higher loses especially in armor then we should have. This was because we spotted the Dutch navy in port and allocated all our remaining air power to attack it. Then we followed up with a sub attack.
Our attacks where a total failure and we lost two subs without sinking a single ship. Forcing our ground attacks to proceed without any air strikes to soften the targets.

we need to finish this before winter.

Back to the Balkans.

After long hours of planing we decided to use our only assets in the area and launch a airborne attack against Belgrade in hopes of cutting off the supply to the Yugoslavian forward elements.
Intel showed that there are no defensive units in the city and just 1 unit moving that way so it may be possible to knock out the HQ's.

So once more the 5th Fallshirmjaeger drops behind enemy lines along with 1 regiment of the 1st.

the operation was a success and their army will have to fall back and deal with the paratroopers which will allow us to reinforce.

Notice also that we knocked out Belgrade with a bombing attack.

a look at my total Armor loses which I am pleased with overall. This allows me to produce enough to build new armor divisions instead of constantly replacing heavy losses. My main losses are in light tanks and armored cars. which cant be helped.

In the Balkans our airborne attack was a success and the Yugoslavs have had to pull back to deal with it,allowing us time to move reinforcements into the area.
