i just got a belated xmas present - "Black Death European Tour T-shirt"!

Bought an Attila the Hun AD452 shirt from National Lampoon back in the day. I like the Black Death one better.

don't think i'd like to be a groupie on either of those tours... course, i guess groupie might have been better than the audience...

The Pink Floyd song about groupies might be particularly apropos for the Black Death European tour... (How Do You Feel?)

now THAT'S creepy...

For all you medical types out there, what is the mechanism by which soaking my damaged finger in warm salt water is good for it. I don't doubt that it is good, the soaking has helped. My question is why?

Back from cardiologist.

Everything (particularly coronary arteries) squeaky clean?

Dr said I did not need to come back. But she decided to put me on an acid blocker.

Probably a good idea. I gave up acid decades ago... at our ages we need all the remaining synapses our brains have!

Sure wish I would have seen this bit of information about the snowy weather a couple weeks ago....

http://www.theonion.com/articles/snowy-conditions-proving-hazardous-for-nations-idi,18705/

When I went off to College in the vast frozen wasteland (not really) of Maine, I noticed all these houses in Falmouth Foreside and other places on the coast that were built in the 17 hundreds, and they all had doors on the second floor. Right there on the narrow side of the house, probably where the hallway ended ... there was a door. I mean, it opened onto nothing and I thought to myself .. 'self, what the heck is that all about?' So I asked the question. There was a lady who lived in the house her great, great, great grandfather built in 1742, who said the climate was much different back then. "It was a little warmer, so more snow fell back then. That door was the front door in winter time." Then she showed me the barn that had a two timber ramp up to a double wide door on the top. "That's to get the sleds out in winter time."

If I ever want to know just what kind of stuff an approaching front is going to do on a race, I always ask an old fisherman. They always seem to know. They always have an uncle, or a grandfather, who told them about the billows of '47 or '66. Or because they live so much with the sea, maybe they have some kind of genetic connection.

Climate change seems to be a fact of life. Have talked to fisherfolks about weather, and the oldsters pretty much agree, and conclude that we are moving into a climactic period that has been present before. Can wax enthusiastic about the effects of the Gulf Stream current (good and bad), on climactic conditions in Northern Europe (with book, bell, candle, chapter, and verse), but seem to have been pre-empted by PhD's who are willing to sell their souls for a Govt grant.

Ciao. John

It would really snow that deep ? That would be more snow than we have here in the last 2 centuries I bet.

Just watched a documentary called "Armadillo", about a group of Danish Army soldiers and their tour of duty in Helmand province, Afghanistan (the title is the name of their Forward Operating Base).

Leaving aside the politics, what struck me the most was the reaction in the media and political circles after the film came out last summer. There's a sequence where a platoon of Danish soldiers are ambushed by Taliban and proceed to destroy the enemy force completely, without taking prisoners.

After the film was shown, there was a lot of talk back home about "inhumane" actions on the part of our troops during that fight; the enemy was in a ditch and our soldiers attacked first with grenades and then followed up with close assault. As I said, no prisoners were taken after an intense firefight with two Danish WIA and five Taliban KIA.

I'll only say this: I've served, and I'm happy that I've never been shot at (because I'm too big to duck), but if I had been shot at, and the choice was between me or any of my friends being killed or the enemy being killed, I'd hope I'd be able to do everything in my power to destroy my enemies and protect my friends.

I don't like the thought of killing, but I like the thought of being maimed or killed myself even less.

Definitely worth a look, if you can find the film.

+1

Post "Black Swan" tithe. Very good movie. Surprisingly so. I dint think Hollyweird could pull that off anymore. She's not a great actress, but she played very well.

My son saw Black Swan. Said he liked it. Since he went with 5 girls I thought he was just brainwashed.

Then a good friend of mine went to see it with his wife. He is a sound fellow. He said he liked it.

Now you.

This must be a very good movie. Or else something sinister is going on.

Attempting Mouse To Mouse Resuscitation

Tech Support in USA

Customer: “I plugged a mouse into my computer, and it died. Now I can’t get it out.”

(We review for a few minutes and I deduce that he has plugged a mouse into his USB port, but it’s stuck inside and won’t work.)

Me: “Okay, so grab the cord and try to pull on that.”

Customer: “You mean the tail? That’s already in the port.”

Me: “Well, the cord shouldn’t be. You’re supposed to plug in the other end.”

Customer: “You mean the head? I don’t think it would fit.”

(Suddenly realizing what the customer has done.)

Me: “Did you plug in a live mouse to your computer?”

Customer: “Yes, I believe I said that.”

(I put customer on hold for several minutes. When I recover I realize I don’t know what to tell the customer I call my supervisor who instructs the customer to bring the laptop into a repair shop. I get the customer back on and tell him this information.)

Customer: “But Mickey’s gone for good now, right?”

Well... clean see water (and that is essentially warm salt water) has always been used for such purposes (even inhalation)...
